5 out of 5 eggsOutstanding Write Speed

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: Super-fast performance for a USB flashdrive.

Leaves most other brands in the dust, and the speed on reading & writing documents and other small files (like Windows operating system files) is 6 to 10 times better than competing models from Patriot or Lexar or Kingston.

Lifetime Warranty is the best you can get. Compare to other brands' 1-year to 5-year warranty.

Cons: Regular price is expensive!

Other Thoughts: There are several brands of high-performance flashdrives that have good speed for transferring large files and this Sandisk Extreme is among them. In addition, the Sandisk is blazing fast when working with small files and with mixed files and folders - it simply blows away other contenders.

2 out of 5 eggsSandisk Extreme

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: The drive is fast and Sandisk support was good

Cons: The first drive stopped being recognized as USB3 but Sandisk replaced it without a problem.

The drive is delicate. If used on laptops be very careful. Mine is damaged now. I repair laptops so it got quite a bit of use storing and replacing files.

Other Thoughts: I really liked the drive while it was working but it needs a tougher design between the plug and the board

5 out of 5 eggsFERRY. R. perhaps I can help

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: The obvious per specs

Cons: It isn't 50 cents per usable gig like most 32 GB usb thumb drives are.

Other Thoughts: FERRY R. A reason why your sandisk extreme usb 3.0 flash drive is reading and writing at usb 2.0 speeds is:
1. The flash drive is defective and a RMA is in order.
2. You're plugging it into a USB "2.0" port instead of a properly working usb 3.0 port.
3. If you are plugging it into a 3.0 port, that port or set of those ports on your motherboard or usb 3.0 hub's device driver must not be installed or the correct driver installed.
4. Usb 3.0 is turned off in bios or EUFI. I've encountered a few motherboards that allow this service. Yes it is weird and I agree it is asinine.

I hope this helps. I banged my head against my desk trying to figure out why my 3TB Western Digital My book wasn't copying my blu ray movies from my 3TB internal seagate to the My Book at faster than 31 MB/s until I realized my device 's connection on the back had been bent/damaged. Thus why I can only use it on usb 2.0 ports. When connecting to a 3.0 port, the device never shows up during POST and windows explorer.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: -Super fast! I routinely transfer 300mb (and sometimes much larger) files around on a daily basis and I cannot describe how much better my life is because I have this key.
-Mechanism to cause USB port on key to appear/retract has a very pleasant, solid feel to it.

Cons: -Needed to reformat in order to store files over 4GB. Not a knock against the key itself, as this is just how it was formatted and reformatting was easily accomplished.
-Housing is somewhat larger than the 32GB Lexar I had before it, so may not easily fit into tightly-spaced USB ports. Thankfully I had enough room on most devices I use but it's something to consider.

Other Thoughts: -It's pricey compared to a generic key but if you transfer files between machines on a regular basis get this; you won't regret it.
-I typically work on OS X-based machines.

1 out of 5 eggsFAKE USB DRIVE!

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: None at all. I feel cheated

Cons: Bought 2 drives and did tests on it including moving large files 1gb+ on USB 3.0 port and turns out read/write speed is only 25-30mb/sec. Very disappointing

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,

My name is Allen from SanDisk Support. The speed of the flash drive depends upon different factors. The factors includes the USB interface through which the flash drive is connected, the type of files being transferred and the operating system. We would like to know more about your issue in order to isolate it. Please feel free to contact SanDisk support at 1-866-SANDISK or submit a support request at www.sandisk.com/support for further assistance.

Thank you,
Allen,
SanDisk Support

5 out of 5 eggsFastest I've ever seen

This review is from: SanDisk Extreme USB 3.0 Flash Drive

Pros: When using USB 3.0 and a high end SSD, I can get copy rates of 170MB/s, as advertised. Gets mid 20s MB/s on USB 2.0 and HDD.

Cons: none so far.

Other Thoughts: It is faster to use this to transfer files between computers on my home network, than my wireless network. Ideal if you want to download a game off Steam and then copy to other computers or transfer a large amount of files to a media server. The plastic housing is much better than most other flash drives, but not as good as memory sticks that have the rubber enclosure (ex. Patriot XT).
