1 out of 5 eggsStay Away!

Pros: small
Newegg replaced the 1st one
and refunded the second one.

Cons: worthless
1st one DOA
2nd one had corrupted files, reformat (fat32)failed on it and could never get it recognized again.

Other Thoughts: Where is the quality control?

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Not even heavy enough to use as a paperweight.

Cons: Both came Dead On Arrival, attempting to do RMA now.
Lexar drives are pure junk.

Other Thoughts: Waste of time and money, next time will go with a quality brand instead of cheap junk.

1 out of 5 eggsHigh Manufacturing Defect Rate

Pros: The form factor is really nice. I wanted a fast UFD in this form factor to leave in a diskless Laptop for running Linux. There are a few other UFDs in this form factor available, but either there isn't a mention of the performance specifications or they are just slow in comparison.

Cons: Very high manufacturing defect rate. I have read other reviews on other sites and it seems many people are encountering the same problem. Lexar is usually good (one of the first to make UFDs) which is why I initially purchased one, but they dropped the ball with this product.

Other Thoughts: The Lexar Echo ZX 32GB would not work right out of the package (same day it was received). It (the first one) was intermittently detected as a Removable Disk but was not accessible. The filesystem was listed as unknown and the capacity is shown as 0 bytes. A prompt is displayed to Insert Disk Media when attempting to access the assigned drive letter or when attempting to format it. Basically the UFD behaved like a Card Reader without a Memory Card inserted. Tested the Lexar Echo ZX 32GB on two Windows XP desktop PCs, a Linux PC and a Windows 7 laptop PC with the same results. I RMA'd the first one and the replacement had the same problem. I RMA'd the second one for a refund. It seems like these have a very high manufacturing defect rate. It's almost as if Lexar never put the flash memory or connected it properly in the UFD chassis. I read somewhare that some UFDs with this form factor actually have microSDHC memory cards inside. If this is the case, I think they forgot that part when they made them!

1 out of 5 eggsDied

Pros: Small size.

Cons: Mine just died. On various PC's I attempted to check it out since it died, either reports its an "unknown device" or reports that "USB device fails to start".

In either case, I can't read any of my files stored on it.

Other Thoughts: I own many USB flash drives, including several that were free give-aways, and this is the VERY first one to simply die on me.

1 out of 5 eggsAnother dead one..

Pros: None.

Cons: I had first got this drive and was happy with it as storage for the head unit in my car, it ended up becoming unusable about a week later. I RMAed it with the MFG, they sent me another one back, it worked....For about another week and started acting just like the first one. For something that claims to be for backup use, this drive has VERY poor reliability. Head unit does not see the drive, nor does my desktop or laptop. Can not format even through command line, the drive shows under disk management, but again is 0KB in size with no partitions etc. LED does not even come on anymore, what a waste.

Other Thoughts: Been using my Corsair GT (8GB) for a few months now in the same head unit, not so much as a hiccup. While it sticks out a bit at least it works, I guess its time to get another one but in the 32GB+ flavor.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after a couple weeks

Pros: Only 32GB low-profile drive out there currently

Cons: Mounted fine in Linux the first time I used it, didn't show up as a block device (but did show up in lsusb output) a few weeks later. Tried again on multiple computers, same result. Toast.

5 out of 5 eggsLittle Wonder

Pros: Amazing capacity in such a small product. It seems almost too good to be true, but lives up to its specs so far as I can tell.

Cons: I suppose these will get cheaper in time.

1 out of 5 eggsAwesome! But only for about 3 days... then, poof! Utterly dead.

Pros: Fast!
Not a darned thing else!

Cons: Unresponsive!

Other Thoughts: I've NEVER had a flash drive fail on me... until now. This one lasted a mere 3 days!

I got this particular unit from Amzn, for use with my 11" MacBook Air, that I'm always running out of space with on its limited 64GB SSD. I bought it for the size, because I was planning on keeping it plugged in all the time. When it died, I hadn't realized it. I just saw the popup stating that the flash drive had been removed unexpectedly. The next day, when I want to transfer tons of development work to it, I noticed it was not working. It hasn't worked since. Tried accessing it from Windows and Linux, and was still unsuccessful. The machine recognizes it as a flash drive, but it can find no partitions to mount.

Thankfully I only lost a few screencasts, but had it lived to see a few more days, I would have lost ALL my development work!! Moral of the story: don't trust a single device to be your data backup. Backup, backup and backup again... to 3 devices!
