3 out of 5 eggsServed me Well for About 2 Years

Pros: High Read/Write speeds for price

Cons: Failed Catastrophically after 2 years

Other Thoughts: I honestly can't say many bad things about this card. I've used it almost exclusively since 2010. Unfortunately, as I was pulling data off it the other day, it randomly stopped working. Hours of attempts to recover data and format the card did not work...it is completely dead.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Customer,

We apologize that you did not have a pleasant experience with your Transcend product. Please contact Transcend technical support and we will help you resolve any issues that you might be having with your new card.

We do offer a lifetime warranty on the CF card you purchased. If the error is a manufacturing issue, your card may be eligible for warranty replacement.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks in Marantz PMD660

Pros: Works in both Olympus E-620 and Marantz PMD660, the latter being uber persnickety about what it will accept. At least that's been my experience. Yours may be different.

Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: Good speeds, compatible, works just like expected; both on Vista, windows 7, as on Canon DSLR camera's!
Good enough for a high quality camera, with many megapixels, as well as recording HD video.

Cons: Not really 400x speeds (which would be ~58MB/s); I registered 26MB/s r/w probably the limitation of the USB2.0 interface.

Other Thoughts: 26MB/s rw speeds on my pc. Pretty good!

2 out of 5 eggsDoesn't support Fixed Disk mode

Pros: Fast

Cons: Only recognizable as a removable device. Can't be configured as a fixed disk! Apparently, if I'd purchased an older, slower Transcend, it could do both. Transcend has apparently noticed the potential loophole of cheaper, high performance CF undermining their SSD business. Unfortunately, the truth of this is burried in a support doc on Transcends site and Newegg's Details give no indication either way. If you are to believe the multitude of posts online (foolish, I know), all Transcend cards support FD mode. Not so!

Other Thoughts: Should have just bought an SSD, but I needed PATA and Newegg only carries SATA.

4 out of 5 eggsGood customer service

Pros: I got one that was defective. It corrupted random image files when used in my Canon DSLRs. I tried several times to reformat and tried filling the card with data to let the controller map around the bad sectors. No luck. I went to the Transcend website and they have a very easy RMA process. I looked up my Newegg account online and printed the invoice, which was needed for the RMA to be accepted.

I got back a new compact flash card of the same model in about a week. Nice customer service, Trancend!

Cons: Wish it would have worked the first time. If you buy one of these, test it thoroughly before you trust it with any important data.

Other Thoughts: Transcend flash memory cards are priced below Sandisk. Pro photographers spend the bucks for Sandisk but I'm an amateur so I can afford to take a chance to save a little money.

2 out of 5 eggsDefective

Pros: It does run pretty fast if used with fast hardware. Bought this Compact Flash card to use with my Canon DSLRs. Have had good luck with Transcend SD cards before, so I thought I'd try one of their CF cards and save money compared to the Sandisk cards I've been buying.

Cons: About one photo in a hundred gets corrupted.

Other Thoughts: I tried this card in three different cameras over a period of about two months. Tried reformatting and using it for a while to see if the controller would learn to work around the bad sectors. No luck. Guess I'll have to pay the bucks for Sandisk compact flash cards.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Perfect size and speed for the way I photograph. It works great in my D700, and downloads quickly enough to my laptops. I shoot RAW files on the road mostly, shoot early, download and eat, then shoot later and download again. So far, I have not had to put in a second card while shooting this card.

Cons: None so far, I have 2 8 Gig cards just like it and they have never given me a problem.

Other Thoughts: I thought that I preferred the 8 Gig size before I got this 16G. Now I have changed my mind. 600+ RAW files in a morning is hard to do, so I just don't have to think about swapping the cards while I'm out in the boonies.
