ADATA’s feather-light aluminum S596 Turbo SSD contains both SATA II and a mini-USB 2.0 dual interface, providing higher convenience and flexibility as either a portable storage device or internal disk drive. In addition to the dual interface, by utilizing a high-end controller chip, as well as cutting-edge flash memory with 128MB DDR2 SDRAM, the ADATA S596 Turbo SSD achieves ultra-fast access and transferring performance with a read speed of up to 260 MB/s and write throughput speed of up to 210 MB/s. Combined with Windows 7, the S596 Turbo SSD also shortens boot-up time to only 20 seconds, a speed you could only imagine.

  • newegg SSD Storage Technology Unlike traditional hard disk drives, SSDs have no moving parts, resulting in a quiet, cool, highly reliable storage solution that also offers faster application loading and system responsiveness. And for laptops and netbooks, the lower power needs of SSDs translate to extended battery life. Higher performance with more durability means you can be truly mobile with confidence.
  • newegg A Major Upgrade in Performance In addition to its 128MB DDR2 SDRAM, the ADATA S596 Turbo SSD utilizes the next-generation controller, providing a read speed of up to 260 MB/s with a 60 MB/s write speed (32GB), which is 20% higher than its predecessor and stands out among its competitors.
  • newegg Solid performance static wear-leveling & Trim support The ADATA S596 Turbo’s firmware supports Windows 7 TRIM command, which is reported to shorten boot-up time, and enhances write throughput efficiency. Armed with a new controller, the S596 Turbo SSD is even more stable, eliminating sudden standstills that might occur during data transmission. The S596 Turbo SSD also employs static wear-leveling technology, remarkably extending its lifespan.
  • newegg Dual Interfaces, Flexible Usage The ADATA S596 Turbo equips SATA II and mini-USB dual interfaces for greater convenience and flexibility. The SSD can be used either as an external portable storage, or as an installed disk in laptop. Furthermore, with a 3.5" converter bracket, the S596 Turbo can be installed in desktop PC.

5 out of 5 eggsUSB SSD

Pros: Great I finally found a SSD drive that supports usb interface. I think these should be used for portability and speed. I don't get why people are using them for windows 7. I install Microsoft HyperV 2K8 R2 on them and virtualize entire servers not wasting any part of the drive for the OS storage. That means all the hotswap bays get used for storage of VM's none for Hypervisor OS. This is great especially since the price of hard drives has gone up.

Cons: Not a Con really not sure how long they last backup the hyperv settings keep in workgroup mode or management domain if you can afford one and it doesn't matter if it fails its such an easy replacement. Wish they made this smaller.

Other Thoughts: This makes setting up all the storage of a server so simple and tuck this inside of an hp server on the internal usb port what a great setup!

2 out of 5 eggsDied within 6 months

Pros: Has a USB interface, it's an SSD...so it's fast, quiet, and has a low power draw

Cons: It died out of nowhere

Other Thoughts: I've got to RMA it still, which I hope (and assume) should be fairly painless, but not my favorite thing to have to do. I bought an Intel 320 Series SSD to replace this because I couldn't afford the downtime and the failure rate didn't look nearly as bad (based on feedback I've seen)

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Cheap Price, Good Warranty

Cons: Arrived DOA. Will not power on... SATA or USB. Had to file RMA with ADATA. Have not heard back yet.

Other Thoughts: Go with a more reputable brand.

1 out of 5 eggsDead

Pros: While installed the drive did improve my PC performance. I used it primarily as a Windows 7 OS drive. Was fairly easy to install and use.

Cons: Died after about 4 months of operation.

Other Thoughts: The drive fried about 4 months after owning it. No reasonable explanation I can come to at this point. PC runs fine still with a new drive installed, this drive just kicked the bed. Have not been able to contact Adata for warranty replacement.

3 out of 5 eggsSlow Writes

Pros: The read speeds are phenomenal on this drive. Running HDTune and Crystal Disk Mark I had read speeds between 200 and 250 MB/s on this drive. The mounting bracket that came with the drive was nice too.

Cons: The write speeds are abysmal. When purchasing this product, I saw that the drive was rated for 60 MB/s write speeds, and thought that it was only rated at that speed over the USB connection. Sadly, I was wrong. This 60 MB/s write speed transfers over to the SATA connection also. Very disappointing. An SSD is a premium product, so I expect premium performance. 60 MB/s is as slow as some 5400 rpm drives, so this is ridiculous to me. This drive is getting returned.

Other Thoughts: I bought this drive to throw in a RAID 0 configuration with another 32 GB ADATA SSD that I use as a boot drive. I figured something was wrong with one of the drives because after throwing them in RAID the performance dropped down from the initial level of either drive. Specifically, reads dropped to 130 MB/s and reads to 40 MB/s. After spending several hours doing various tests on the drives separately, I have found that my original drive has died, and I have not even had that drive for a year.
ADATA, I originally went with your products because they were cheaper. Now, after purchasing 2 SSD's from your company, and a USB 3.0 flash drive that has also had issues, I can officially say I am swearing you off of my preferred manufacturer's list. With devices that fail within a year after I payed premium price, I cannot deal with you anymore. Get your act together so that no more poor saps have to be disappointed by your shoddy build quality and firmware for all your devices. Goodby

5 out of 5 eggsGood drive

Pros: Makes a good cache/scratch disk. Improves performance greatly with things like photoshop or other applications with a configurable cache location.

Cons: Obviously not for normal use, quality is too low for that.

4 out of 5 eggscould be better

Pros: Read speeds are pretty good

Low access times,

Silent

Low heat and power.

Cons: Writes speeds not so great, but not outright terrible I guess.

Can't upgrade firmware from USB connector and appears to require a USB drive specially formatted in order to do. Lack of a windows based firmware update is a real drag.

I don't really get the point in USB2.0 connection as a anti static wrist band is recommended/mandatory basically when handling the drive because static will damage it according to the manul.

Cost per GB of storage still high for SSD's

Other Thoughts: Supercache can work wonders on a SSD or HD for that matter with the proper settings it's pretty remarkable the performance increase to both reads and writes that are possible through it especially for flash devices that don't suffer from high access times like traditional HD's.

1 out of 5 eggsWorked for about 1 day

Pros: Was extremely fast for the 1 day it was working.

Cons: The bios will no longer recognize the drive but when I attach a USB cable, I can store and read information from the drive.

Other Thoughts: I will return and try again

5 out of 5 eggsOver Six months now and not a single hicup

Pros: I have had 2 of these in a Raid 0 now for months. When my littlest one turns off the PC movie playing for her older brother the whining is minimal becuse it boots up so fast. Infact i think i wait longer for the board to post.
Windows 7 exp score highest over all others and i got 8GB of those early matched CorsairGTX.

Cons: Both of mine needed to be flashed which isnt a common IT skill used. And if you didnt know that you problably wont flash them and then give 1 egg.

Other Thoughts: Cheap plus decent quality but not quite as fast as those priced 5 times higher for the same size.
