5 out of 5 eggsAMAZING TOP DRIVES

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: After seeing negative reviews I purchased two. It's been over 7mo and not one problem. This falls along the same lines as the other drives by OCZ. OCZ has a support forum, I help when I can, and I see people blaming windows, BIOS, problems on these drives for two years now. I have over 25 drives out and I own 8 OCZ drives. I have never had one problem with any OCZ drive. One of my almost three year old vertex 3 drives had I/O errors and could not be erased or initialized. I got a RMA and sent drive in and a day after checked the RMA and they replaced the drive. I received a Vertex 460. WOW, a 460 for a old Vertex 3. I have bought thousands of MOBO products and no MFG has a magical RMA process. The top rated SSD has a joke warranty. People getting chkdsk errors on win 7, seems to be the BIOS/ OS. I had a Asus Z77 giving the error with win 7, but when I put it on my board and ran win 7, for a week, not one error. Win 7 has been causing disk errors on drives from day one.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: This drive is in the top four SSD's on the market for speed. I run win 7, win 8.1 with spring update 1, there is no difference between any of the four, and with my experience with OCZ support, you can't go wrong. I have run most OCZ drives in a RAID 0 128k stripe, I tried the 13 series modded RST ROM and drivers on a X79, and found that the 12.7 ROM and 12.9 drivers give the best performance. I beat these drives hard with testing OS and updates, reinstalling every week, and these drives and other OCZ drives have been no problem what so ever. I feel bad for people who have problems, but like I stated, most are the board, OS they use the drive on and as for me, over 30 drives and only one failed after 3 years, I didn't go wrong and can only say how great these drives have been even after beating them to death.

To run the 13. series OROM in a X79 you must use modded code RST, remember some MOBO MFG have added ROM switch in BIOS to run either RST and RSTe.

****As of now Intel has added TRIM support to the RSTe 3.7 series enterprise ROM's so people who only have RSTe don't need to worry about TRIM. You also need a corresponding driver, which seems to be the best anyway, keeping both ROM and DRIVER in the same series version.

2nd ***** I don't worry about TRIM anyway, these drives have such great Garbage Collection, there is really no need for TRIM, and it can be proven that GC works if you place the drives in a non TRIM state.

As for TRIM, there is ZERO evidence that a drive will last longer running TRIM then not and the drive only has GC.as a way to clear the LBA's.

Remember- Only in a true UEFI state does the RST ROM switch to a SataDriver in BIOS for the RAID controller.
Most all drives I have out are on 7 series and 8 series chipsets, there is no reason to put a top drive on a garbage chipset or to ever put them on a Asmedia Sata3, Marvell, 9120, 9128, 9172. Only the 9182 an 9230 are worth it in my opinion.

I hope you have the same experience with OCZ as I have.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable product. Buy at your own risk.

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: Incredibly fast while it worked.

Cons: Failed after four months.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this drive in August, 2013 from Newegg via a well-know auction site.

For the first four months I was thrilled with this drive. Bootup time was @30 seconds and shutdown was @7 seconds. Programs started almost instantly when clicked. My two-year-old i5 2410 laptop was now a hot rod, with blazing performance.

And then, in January, problems started. An out of nowhere system crash necessitated a system restore. A day or two later, the dreaded BSOD appeared and recovery was impossible. I reinstalled Windows 7 from a clean disc, added the drivers, and added the programs I was able to (Digiarty’s one-time-only free software was lost forever – grrrr). Almost immediately I started getting disk errors and Chkdsk running on startup. A couple of weeks later, BSOD again. I contacted OCZ and was given several things to do, including running an ATTO utility to check the disc. I bought a cable to connect the drive via USB to another laptop and ran the utility – the disc checked fine. So… another OS reinstall, another BSOD, and this time the drive was totally dead – it didn’t show on the BIOS or the second laptop when using the USB adapter cable.

Now, my PC is up and running with a 500gb 5400rpm HD. Bootup is @2 minutes and shutdown is @30 seconds. Programs start within one to five seconds of being clicked. My hotrod is now a four-cylinder minivan. However, it works. No chkdsk errors on startup. No BSOD. This, I can live with.

I asked OCZ for an RMA for my now-dead SSD and they responded by asking for a .jpg of my invoice. I took a screen print and sent it. If and (hopefully) when OCZ sends me a repaired or replacement SSD, I’ll probably put it up for sale on the well-known auction site. While I love its awesome performance, its lack of reliability, as seen by the many reviews of failed disks here, means I just can’t take the chance of another catastrophic system failure and the accompanying headaches that go with it.

Sorry, OCZ.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsExtremely High Failure Rate

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: Speeds are decent.
Physical fit and finish is nice.

Cons: Drive failure rate is extremely high!

I've been through now 5 failed Vectors, 3 failed 128G, and 2 failed 256G. OCZ released a firmware upgrade that was supposed to correct the issue firmware corruption after 'sudden power loss' (and SMART clocked a sudden power loss event after normal reboots until I upgraded the SSD's firmware). All my drives were upgraded to 2.0 firmware before use. Every single Vector drive I've used now has inevitably failed.

My most recent drive was in use on my media pc, Where the first drive failed after a few months. This was RMA'd and the 2nd 256G drive was good and I had no problems with the system. Ten months after receiving the RMA'd drive, it stopped booting and sure enough the bios no longer recognized the drive, and when I moved it in a USB enclosure, no other system would recognize it either.

I can not trust any of these indilink's based drives with my data, my old vetex turbo is still running strong after years of use, but these vectors are just trouble.

Other Thoughts: RMA process is a bit of a pain, but I'm going with a Samsung drive in my Media PC. Whenever I get the RMA for my recent drive its going to sit in its pretty box, as its just a ticking time bomb.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

Vector has been proven to be an ultra-reliable SSD with extremely positive reviews, both in print and web. The vast majority of users are thrilled with Vector's speed and reliability. It seems from your description you have had the poorest Vector experience I have ever seen reported. I am extremely interested in system-specific incidents and want to gather as much information as possible to investigate further. I would appreciate the opportunity to pass your system details and experience to our internal teams. I can also serve a single point of contact should you need a different resolution in the future.

Please take a moment to contact me using the email address below. When contacting me if you could provide any previous RMA numbers and your system details that would be a big help.

On behalf of OCZ, I apologize for the inconvenience!

Kind Regards,

Robert

5 out of 5 eggsso far so good

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: I seem to be part of the lucky bunch that so far has a working drive. Purchased 8/28/2013. This was a great addition to my laptop, which now is much snappier.

Cons: I don't have time to make food while my laptop boots.

Other Thoughts: Although there were a similar number of negative reviews when I purchased this drive, I decided to trust the RMA process and OCZ in general. I've purchased some of their non-SSD products in the past with good results. Now that Toshiba owns the SSD side of things, I have even more confidence that they will stand by their products for the full warranty period (5 years).

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: Worked for a month

Cons: Died after one month of use. Windows said I had driver errors and to restart so I did. Then it started back up and said boot option not found.

Other Thoughts: VERY disappointed in OCZ, some of their products are great just not this one.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDied in one year

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: worked great when it worked

Cons: When I first contacted support I informed them that I was an IT professional and they treated me terribly. I filed complaints with both the BBB and AG, and guess what consumer you are out of luck!!!

Other Thoughts: Buy something with a better track record. I can tell you as an IT professional these drives fail and the customer service is sorely lacking. No 24 hour turn around. If you machine dies just go buy something better or you will wait a month before you get another drive. They as much as called me a liar. Terrible company would not buy from them ever!!!
Buyer Beware

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Consumer,

It appears your purchase was not via Newegg, but through a different retailer. If you have pursued a complaint with the BBB that has likely placed you in contact with our Director of Customer Service. OCZ strives to provide the best customer support in the industry and we will always investigate potentially unacceptable errors or misunderstandings. I am confident we will be able to fully resolve your complaint.

We are very sorry for the inconvenience of your solid state drive problem.

5 out of 5 eggsVery fast

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: Repeated tests back up advertised performance specs.

Cons: High price per GB, but then Ferrari's aren't cheap either.

Other Thoughts: Installed as the OS drive and redirected the desktop and all libraries to a 4TB WD Black drive on Windows 8.1 Pro. Bundled with a Intel 4770 and ASRock Z87 Extreme6.

I would definitely recommend this SSD if you can afford the price per GB.

This review is from: OCZ Vector Series VTR1-25SAT3-128G 2.5" 128GB SATA III MLC

Pros: While it worked I had no complaints.

Cons: Died after 6 weeks.

Other Thoughts: About a week or two ago my computer started experiencing lockups that would last a few seconds to requiring a power cycle.

After the last power cycle the BIOS could not boot this SSD.
