5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Has a nice solid heavy feel for a usb drive.
Simple to setup and use.
Forces you to eject the drive and reinsert it after a few incorrect password tries.

Cons: A bit high price but you get what you pay for.

Other Thoughts: Got two. Using them for rotating off site backups of the ultra important files. Should one get lost or stolen I don’t have to worry about my data. Ten wrong tries and they’ll have a nice paper weight. No issues on XP and 7. I can’t comment on MAC compatibility since I don’t have a MAC to try them on.

5 out of 5 eggsAs User Friendly and Secure As They Come

Pros: Plug and play. Stupid-proof operation. Use on WIN 7 and below. Absolutely secure from strong encryption to tamper proof, self destruct mechanism.

Cons: A little pricey.

Other Thoughts: Was so happy with the first unit, I purchased another. Read the directions to ensure a thorough understanding of the user's part in real security.

4 out of 5 eggsIronKey and the Mac

Pros: Contrary to the one egg (and oh-so explanatory) review, an IronKey does work on a Mac. I use both Mac OS 10.6 and Windows 7 laptops at home, and my IronKey functions, unlocks, and transfers data between either system with ease. I love the quality of the case! Solid, metal construction with the serial number engraved in the case and a cap that fits precisely and firmly thanks to a thick rubber gasket-like liner. The "feel" of the build quality on this thing puts every other drive I've owned or used to shame. Is it wrong to lust after a thumb drive?

Cons: It doesn't work as effortlessly on the Mac as on Windows. The Mac couldn't initialize it or set the password- that required using a Windows machine. Also, because of the way Mac OS X displays folder contents, files that would be hidden in Windows are visible and could be confusing to an average user. Finally, I've not tried to use the IronKey to create a secure/encrypted archive on my Mac which the key would unlock, but I suspect it wouldn't work or at least not without some tinkering as these devices are obviously geared toward Windows (the majority of market share).

Other Thoughts: I love my Apple products and they are the majority of my home network- but they're still computers and at a certain point of performance demand, the user needs to have a certain level of technical proficiency. Let's be honest, if you're not familiar with using Terminal to access your Mac's command line, you probably don't need the level of security an IronKey offers anyway. The IronKey DOES work on a Mac, but it's nowhere near as easy as managing your iPod. However, the IronKey IS that easy on a Windows machine. A user's own technical capability really needs to be considered here, though an egg definitely has to be knocked off the review for not being able to initialize the device in OS X. Windows machines are everwhere and borrowing one to set the key up shouldn't be an issue, but it also shouldn't be neccessary.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

Pros: Water Proof, Metal, encrypted and write protection. What more could you ask for. I'm never getting another brand this one works great. I was looking for one with a write protection switch but this device doesn't need it because it asks you if you want it to be read only when you unlock it with your password. That way you can clean up a virus infected machine with out worries.

Cons: Cap isn't attached so you might lose it when you set it down.
