5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Excellent SSD for the money. It has breathed new life into an older but still highly usable Work Computer. The system acts like it has 8 gb of ram now even though it has only 2 gb of DDR 2 and a 2.2 gb Duo core processor on Windows 7 ultimate 64 bit.
Buy one!

Cons: Cant comment on longevity of these SSD drives althought they are rated for 1,000,000 hours of use , we shall see. Buy one you wont regret it.

1 out of 5 eggsShort life!!!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: fast load of Win8.1 and Linux Mint dual boot on UEFI ASUS M5A97 LE R 2.0 motherboard

Cons: died after 3 months... no pre-failure indications... just disappeared from drives available in file explorer and from UEFI control panel on a restart...

Other Thoughts: haven't tried Kingston return process yet... will update review after seeing how tough it is to get it repaired/replaced by Kingston under warranty

1 out of 5 eggsSubpar drive!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: After the performance fiasco and futile try at covering it up, none whatsoever!

Cons: Search the web and decide whether you wish to be taken advantage of, of this bait and switch tactic.

Other Thoughts: Jewel, no need to leave any of your usual company line comments. Damage is done. Kingston has lost credibility. A real shame!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Upgrade

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap, fast.

Cons: Need bracket.

Other Thoughts: Wonderful upgrade. I took 5 of these and replaced the hard drives in some 7 year old Dells and now the computers boot Windows in 20 seconds or less. A great way to breathe some life into an old computer.

1 out of 5 eggsSave your money, buy literally any other SSD on the market.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cool sticker

Cons: Kingston really let us down with this one. The drive is embarrassingly slow for an SSD! 170mb/s read for uncompressed data (the data that real world people use, MP3,MP4, AVI,etc).

This drive looks great using compressed synthetic benchmarks.

Thank you Kingston for lying to your customers ( the people who pay your salaries)

Other Thoughts: Kingston,

Get it together.

Regards,

Your customers

1 out of 5 eggsIn Regards to Jewel & Kingston customer service

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Nothing, nothing at all.

Cons: A waste of salary. They might as well just post their web URL for every complaint, for all the good she does.

Other Thoughts: Hi Jewel,

In regards to your reply to my review, I'd like to very specifically point out that I was using the ATTO benchmark (Despite the fact that this goes against nearly every benchmark routine ever). And unfortunately, even in the ATTO benchmark while testing with compressible data, the previous readings still stand. 220 read, 160 write. The prompt you copied and pasted from doesn't change that fact, and neither will your ineffectual "customer service" reply.

1 out of 5 eggsFalse Advertising

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Was a cheap generously sized SSD, if as advertised.

Cons: Does not hit half it's rated speed. Tested 3 different fresh drives, each one formatting 2 separate ways (1: standard ssd disk format. 2: HDD to SSD migration with properly adjusted partition alignment.

220 mb read - 160 mb write.

Other Thoughts: The front of the package that these drives came in is very clear. 450 MB/s Read, 450 MB/s Write. Even in RAID, these drives don't hit those numbers.

Quite frankly, I'll be filing a false advertising complaint with the Better Business Bureau against Kingston.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the misunderstanding. The 450MB/s read/write speed is tested with ATTO Benchmark which uses compressible data in it's benchmark workload. Results from other benchmarking software such as AS SSD or CrystalDiskMark use incompressible data which would not produce the same results. For the 120Gb drive expected benchmark results are 180MB/s Read and 133MB/s Write. This is posted in our specifications on our website and in the V300's datasheet, found here: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/sv300s3_us.pdf . We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you should any issue arise with the V300. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Decent Size, great replacement for a laptop if you don't use the laptop for a lot of data storage and you want a decent speed increase. I put this in an older sony laptop that can't even utilize the full potential of this and it still performs well. (i keep data on an external drive that I might need from time to time in order to keep a decent amount of free space on this. I find that it is sufficient for my needs.

Cons: None, was not DOA and so far is performing well.

Other Thoughts: None, get one and try it out. I don't think you will regret it.

4 out of 5 eggsYou get what you pay for

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap
Faster than HDD
Windows 7 boots in 20 seconds

Cons: Slow for a SSD
Poor installation instructions

Other Thoughts: I get roughly 45 mb/s for this drive, compared to my 7200 rpm hdd, which gets about 5 mb/s. Definitely faster to boot or launch programs. However, you get what you pay for. I wish I had spent a bit more to buy a faster ssd. Also, installation instructions were bare minimum. They essentially said "get someone else to install it"

5 out of 5 eggspretty good for price

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Added to 2007 Macbook Pro,
This hard drive brought new life to this machine
start up times under 15 seconds
shut down instant
reading and writing very fast
low power consumption and zero issues
just make sure you turn on trim if you're using a mac!

Cons: didn't come with a hat

Other Thoughts: Very cheap and easy way to perk up an older machine. Installed in my uncles old macbook pro because his hd had died. He is in heaven, he uses this laptop even more now and he says the battery lasts 20% longer. got on sale for $65 go newegg!
