4 out of 5 eggsNice drive, challenging install

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: VERY fast. Very reliable. Great pricing sometimes.

Cons: Needed to download drivers to a thumb drive for use during windows install, kind of a pain.

Other Thoughts: Purchased this for a friend to replace a 7200RPM and BOY is it amazingly better. What a difference an SSD makes compared to spinner. Game load times, app installation and system boot are all LOADS faster.

5 out of 5 eggsMakes a refurb Latitude just fly

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Put this in a Latitude 830 and it is like getting a new cpu.
The system has 4 GB of ram and with window 7 pro it runs like a brand new machine.
This is my 2nd Kingston SSD and so far they both have worked fine and I will keep my fingers crossed they both continue to work very well.
Kingston tech support has been very helpful with all emails and very quick to respond. One of the best I have ever experienced... but Glen I now have the D830 and put a Kingston 30 Gb in a D820... I thought you said they would not work in those systems.. but are! Thanks anyway.
Oh and both run very cool and very quiet and so far am happy.

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: Glen from Kingston tech support.. if these drives will not work in either of these systems please tell me why they seem so good so far? Is there a reason I should switch them?

5 out of 5 eggsNot bad SSD, especially for the price

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very good price, nice speeds, its a slim drive and Kingston are providing an add on bracket for some of those guys that are planning to add it to a laptop and don't like the extra space that might cause issues.
Using it as a main drive on one of my desktops, with Win 7, not bad at all.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: $55 at time I purchased the drive, was the best possible deal for a relatively speedy drive, so can't beat that.

3 out of 5 eggsA good beginner SSD

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Cheap
Works

Cons: $110 for a 120 GB drive is a little pricey
Get a solid state hybird drive instead

Other Thoughts: I bought a solid state hybrid drive, saw this on the shell shocker a day later. My plan was to install this drive on my new computer with a 4 TB drive for my games/documents. But, since it was a new computer of course I couldn't wait to get it up and running. Installed Windows on the SSHD and it was fast. 35 seconds to boot and that was after 10 seconds just to get passed the BIOS. Theoretically, SSD should be faster. Got this drive, installed Windows on it. Boot time were actually about 10-15 seconds slower. I have a few old Western Digital Cavier Black drives that just about match that. But, with a shell shocker price of $50 it was a good deal. I will just stick it into an old laptop with a 5.4k RPM drive and breath new life into it. For $50 I would say go for it but at $110, I would recommend the Seagate 1 TB SSHD (solid state hybrid drive) instead.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the V300 drive. A boot time can vary depending on start up programs and number of peripheral devices that initialize at start up, but nearly a minute to boot sounds unusual for the V300 drive. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine if there are any configuration changes that can be made to improve the performance of the drive. Please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

1 out of 5 eggsDied in under 6 months

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast / easy to install

Cons: Short life span -- this drive died unexpectedly all of a sudden one morning in the middle of use. Cannot boot up at all. Just goes to black screen. I ran the diagnostics on the laptop and it came up with the error code that the HDD self test could not complete. Normal start up doesn't work, safe boot with networking doesn't work, safe boot with command prompt works maybe one out of every twenty tries.

Other Thoughts: Not good...

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsDoes it's job: it's fast!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Easy to configure and use, fast.

Cons: Doesn't fix my breakfast.

Other Thoughts: Installed in an older Dell XPS 720, connected to a SYBA SY-PEX40039 PCI-Express 2.0 SATA III (6.0Gb/s) Controller Card, and without vigorous tests, I can easily say it's 2-3 times faster boot, shutdown, and running all programs. Very pleased with a $75 total investment.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperior Peformance for $$

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Ran HDSpeed and got 520 Mb/sec read speeds, runs great, upgraded ps3 hard drive with it, breeze to swap out.

Cons: You wish you would have bought two for this price and ran a raid 0 for doubling speed and space, imagine the possibilities, maybe even go raid 10

1 out of 5 eggsCompletely Unacceptable

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It was stupid cheap. Got it on sale for 60 bucks. It has decent 4K read and write speeds which is essential for fast file access which deals with booting, shutting down and other operations.

Cons: COMPLETELY UNACCEPTABLE PERFORMANCE. I CANNOT explain how furious I am with this. Kingston has ALWAYS had above excellent quality and performance. I was always reaching for their flash memory, storage and the such. They were the first to come out of my mouth when I worked retail at sellers. However, this... This is outrageous. I am beyond infuriated with how shady and low cut this was.

I'm not going to rant, but this doesn't even deserve one egg. Stay away from this product. It is no longer worth the price you pay.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast

Cons: Wish they came with a 2.5 to 3.5 bracket... but those are cheap anyways

Other Thoughts: Alright so I bought 2 of these to store my operating system and games and have no regrets.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SSD FAST SPEED

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I don't check write and read speeds, but for my its very fast. Loads WIN 8 with an OC 4670k at 4.6 Ghz in about 7 seconds. No problems so far.

Cons: Wish SSD were still a little cheaper.

Other Thoughts: Great SSD that is solid and great performance.
