5 out of 5 eggsVery solid for the money

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Very inexpensive.
- After flashing to latest firmware the drive is quick and reliable. I ran benchmarks after flashing firmware and performance is right up there where claimed.
-Perfect to revive an older laptop where you need speed and not capacity so much.

Cons: - Of course you don't get a full 120GB, it;s actually 110GB, but that's how they all are, AND you need to leave some room for the drive to operate quickly.
- Pretty much too small for full desktop systems, I don't have much on mine and it still takes 100GB.

Other Thoughts: I have had this a good 6 months. They use different kinds of NAND memory in these so make sure you update the firmware to get the best performance. I would have situations where it would take awhile for my computer to boot or shutdown but that was resolved once I flashed the firmware and left 10GB free for the drive to work with

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It's an ssd.

Cons: It is extremely slow compared to your typical ssd. Expect to get around 180mb/s instead of the 450mb/s they say you will. THIS IS A SCAM!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Tyler,
I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support and would like to offer some clarification. The V300 does perform at 450MB/s read and write when benchmarked with compressible data like in ATTO Benchmark. When tested with incompressible data like in AS SSD or CrystalDiskMark results vary depending on the capacity of the drive. The expected incompressible data benchmark results for the 120GB drive is 180MB/s Read and 133MB/s Write. This is listed on our product page and in the V300's datasheet, here: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/sv300s3_en.pdf . The different types of testing data create different results due since the V300 uses a SandForce controller which uses compression reducing the number of writes to lengthen the life of the flash NAND. Then depending on whether the drive includes synchronous or asynchronous NAND the incompressible rate may vary. Regardless of the exact components we ensure the drive will perform at our published specifications. If you have any further questions, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsFast

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Fast. Cheap. Low power consumption.

Cons: Limited software from Kingston.

Other Thoughts: To me, it seems to run faster than the Samsung Evo, but it could be the faster CPU doing it (g3258 vs a10-5800K). Little disappointed for no software utility like the Evo has, but it runs even faster seemingly.

5 out of 5 eggsFinally Working

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Very fast boot times, fast transfer. Everything is fast inducing tech support with a bad answer and no help.

Now that it does work most of the boot time is for the BIOS, about 30 seconds on the BIOS, and 15-20 seconds for the os to load. Booting Windows Server 2008 on a 2.8GHz dual core with 1GB ram

Cons: Kingston tech support, learn your product and produce a driver for older OS's. I know my equipment was not too old because every single computer I ran it on the BIOS saw it, it was unable to be used because of a lack of driver.

Yes firmware was up-to-date, before you even ask...

Other Thoughts: It is not picky on motherboards contrary to what Kingston support said. They told me "My computers are too old, oh well buy new stuff" I paraphrased a little. So I download the INTEL!!!!!!! ACHI Driver and load it during install, and wouldn't you know it, it runs without a flaw.

5 out of 5 eggsMy first SSD purchase turns out very good!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: I've used this drive for 5 months - no problems.

This was my first SSD purchase, I've been anxiously waiting for prices to come down and finally made the move. The drive performs very nicely. My computer boots up completely loads my user profile in under a minute. Previously it would take several minutes. Applications start up and are ready to use in seconds. Every computer I build from here on out will, at a minimum, have a boot SSD.

Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: Note: If you are purchasing this for a desktop computer, make sure you also get a 2.5" to 3.5" adapter bracket so you can properly mount in in the case.

5 out of 5 eggsKINGSTON SSD drive - 120GB

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: When you buy a low priced SSD go for recognized brand such as Kingston or Crucial. Needed small drive for cheap build and this was perfect. Windows 7 boots up in 12 seconds and powers down within 5 seconds, can't ask for better then that.

Cons: None what so ever...

Other Thoughts: Thinking seriously about buying the Crucial MX100 CT512MX100SSD1 2.5" 512GB SSD for my personal PC, to replace my boot drive,...

Once you boot from SSD,.. it's hard to go back to conventional platter drives,... regardless the cache on them... save your money and get it, you'll be very pleased you did!

2 out of 5 eggsGet what you pay for

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Faster than a HDD.
Same price as a nice 1TB HDD.
Looks nice.
Comes with a little plastic spacer to help it fit in laptop drive bays.

Cons: Completely disappointing performance for a Kingston product.
Fresh out of the box I installed linux to test it's speeds.
An average read speed of 131-137 MB/s is rediculous compared to what is advertised here. It's even lower than the 180-200 MB/s read speeds reported by others who are pointing out the same issue.
I trust Kingston to make quality lasting products. And at this price point, I may have even purchased the drive KNOWING it had read speeds of only 180-200 MB/s. But when it's advertised to be closer to twice that, and my received product doesn't even reach half of what is advertised, I feel lied to.

With an average read speed (which I care far more about than write speed) of only 132 MB/s compared with my old HDD that got an average of about 90 MB/s this is an improvement. But not an improvement of 10Xs faster as claimed, not even 2Xs faster.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for.
Kingston, you've lost my vote for truthful advertising.
From here forward I'll be considering other companies, or at the least I'll be sure to check the web for the REAL expected speeds. If $20 more for an Intel would mean 30-50% faster read speeds, I'd drop the extra money.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi, I'm Jewel with Kingston Technical Support. We apologize for the issue experienced with the V300 drive. The expected compressible read/write speeds are 450MB/s when testing with incompressible data expect rate for the 120GB drive is 180MB/s Read and 133MB/s Write. We are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine what may be causing the issue with the drive you received. This is listed on the detailed specifications on our website and in the product's datasheet found here: http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/sv300s3_us.pdf . For further assistance, please call us at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and I or another available Technician will assist you.

Thank you for selecting Kingston as your upgrade partner.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat cheap SSDs

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Really fast. Not the fastest, but great speed for this price range. I have 3 of these. 2 120GB and 1 240GB. Each system I installed them to saw dramatic speed increases. All load into windows in under 10 seconds (my main rig is 7-8 seconds). Programs run much snappier. Any games you choose to install on it will load fast too.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: An SSD upgrade at these prices is a no brainer.

4 out of 5 eggsNot bad - minor step forward

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Not a bad little drive - pretty quick and fair space for the price.

Cons: No mounting hardware included for 3.5" bay applications

Other Thoughts: Just a tiny bit faster than my old Intel 160 gb SSD - not worth upgrading, but this was for a new build for the in-laws.
