2 out of 5 eggsGarbage

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Quick boot up, cheap

Cons: Slower than a disabled sloth. Seagate Barracuda ST1000DM003 is faster than this. I feel ripped off. I wish I had spend my money on a Samsung drive.

Other Thoughts: I wonder if I can move Windows from one SSD to another..

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,
We apologize for the inconsistency experienced with the V300 drive. This drive should perform faster than standard 7200 rpm HDDs. The 120G offers 450MB/s read/write when tested with ATTO Benchmark and 180MB/s Read and 133MB/s Write when tested with CrystalDiskMark or AS SSD. If the drive you received is not meeting these specifications please refer to case SR252937 and contact us directly at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT or online: http://www.kingston.com/company/contacts#tech

5 out of 5 eggsreliable

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: hasn't failed on me yet and it was a good deal when i got it on sale in 2012

Cons: none. does its job as advertised

Other Thoughts: If you're on a tight budget, getting this on sale would be a good idea if you can't afford some of the newer ssd's out there

2 out of 5 eggsBad experience here!

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: It worked well for the time it worked. Its at a really cheap price now.

Cons: I bought it a year and 5 months ago and a couple days ago it just went dead. I diagnosed the problem by checking in the bios and it did not show up. I also check in windows mini xp and nothing came up as well. I used a sata to usb on a different computer to triple check It wasn't just a bad sata port and I was right the SSD just went kapoot. I only ever installed my windows OS, league of legends, and skype to the OS, so it was not really doing a lot of R/W that it should have died by now.

Other Thoughts: It was great while it worked and cheap price (You pay for what you get i guess).

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsBeware of bait & switch

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: None

Cons: Nowhere near advertised speeds. Kingston follows the bait & switch routine, and no longer uses the same components as it did when the V300 was first released. I got upwards of 200mbps read. I have two other ssd's that touch 500 easy.
If I wanted a slower drive I've had other far cheaper options. There was no need to pay the extra for the Kingston brand.
Died after 3 weeks of use- Called Kingston, provided my address and other info, started up an case. They transferred me to the RMA department, who in turn were prompt to hang up on me. I called back a week later and referenced the case number. Someone sent me an email asking me to send them a scanned copy of the receipt and other info - I did that promptly. I received an acknowledgement from them stating that I'd receive an email with RMA instructions. It has been several weeks since that last email and I haven't gotten a response from them since.
I have been advised by friends that the V300 series from Kingston were one of the top 10 worst ssd's in the market. I should have listened.

Other Thoughts: Rather than buy the V300, buy ANY cheap ssd. This drive can only bench less than half it's advertised speed.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello,
We apologize for what has occurred through the warranty process. It is unusual for there to be that kind of delay. Please contact us directly at 1-800-435-0640 (USA and Canada only) M - F 6am - 6pm PT and refer to your case number so we may resolve this for you ASAP.
Also, the V300 is an entry level SATAIII SSD and is designed to incorporate different components to provide good performance at an entry level price. As such, when different components become unavailable through the years alternates are found to maintain the same performance. The V300 should perform at 450MB/s when tested in ATTO Benchmark or other compressible data benchmarks. When tested with incompressible data benchmarks, like AS SSD or CrystalDiskMark, the expected results for the 120GB drive are at least 180MB/s Read and 133MB/s Write. So depending on the utility used the drive you received may have been performing properly. Please know that we are here to help and can troubleshoot with you to determine if the drive is performing properly. Please contact us so we may get your RMA settled for you.

Thank you for using Kingston SSDs,

4 out of 5 eggsBest $67 ever spent on computer

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Installed in10 minutes in new system. was up and running in about half hour using Macrium Reflect (free edition) to clone drive. Very fast boot time compared to 5400 rpm drive-about 13 seconds to log in running Win 8.1. Allows new I7/16 gig ram system to speed through tasks. Virtually no lag time.

Cons: None really. Unless Kingston wants to sell 256 gig drive for same price :-). If you have a lot of software (especially games) go for a larger drive.

Other Thoughts: Check your system for mounts and free SATA power connector before ordering. I didn't need the mount adapter that I ordered, but brand new I7 system had no extra power connector in case. You may need power splitter

4 out of 5 eggsGreat SSD for OS install

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Upgrade

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: Bought this SSD to put my OS on, upgraded from a 500gb HDD, and I have to say I love how fast my computer turns on. Great price (I got it 20$ off) also.

Cons: 120 GB size is a little bit small, but hey it's just enough for my OS.

5 out of 5 eggsBest laptop upgrade for the money.

This review is from: Kingston SSDNow V300 Series SV300S37A/120G 2.5" 120GB SATA III Internal Solid State Drive (SSD)

Pros: - Have used this drive for >12 hours a day in a laptop without any issue.
- Greatly increased speed vs the standard laptop 5400rpm hdd.
- Reduced sound, heat and vibration from the laptop.
- Increased battery life (part from less use of fans to dissapate a hdds heat, part from lower power draw)

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Thinner than a standard hdd, but included a spacer to allow for proper installation.
