5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Upgrade

Pros: 320GB Harddrive (Formatted to 298GB)
ATA-6 Connection (Old School)
Upgraded My 1.67GHz Powerbook G4 Aluminum
Read and write times dramatically increased over the previous 100GB Harddrive that was installed.
Power Consumption was much lower as well. .5mA vs .70mA.
Packaging contents were phenominal.

Cons: Absolutely NONE

Other Thoughts: My Powerbook G4 Bootup Time from pressing the power button to loading Mac OS X Leopard was cut in HALF.

This Harddrive was worth the investment.

4 out of 5 eggsSo far, so good

Pros: Large capacity, fairly quick, inexpensive.

Cons: A little noisy compared to the hard drive originally in my Mac.

Other Thoughts: It's my second WD hard drive in my PowerBook, the first one made a dull clicking sound and was sent back after determining it was about to die. The second is a lot quieter, but it still makes real faint clicks, probably just a WD thing, I hope. Just in case, I won't erase/format the original hard drive just yet.

5 out of 5 eggsG4 12" powerbook fit

Pros: 1. Easy part for part replacement for dying 80gb drive
2. quieter than original drive
3. lower heat than original drive
4. larger capacity than original drive

Cons: No real cons for the drive. It was just painful taking the mac apart and putting it back together.

Other Thoughts: I recommend having a can of compressed air handy. If you are replacing the drive on on your powerbook and trying to squeeze out some life, your computer has at least 4 years of dust inside of it. Blow out the dust from the fans. Also, you should be able to find installation instructions on the web for taking the system apart/installing the drive. For the most part, the 12" powerbooks were extremely similar, so you should be able to take it apart based on online instructions. You will also need torx screw drivers to do it, in addition to the minis you may already have. GOOD LUCK!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for older laptops

Pros: Excellent drive. This was used to replace an older Hitachi 100GB 7,200 RPM non-perpendicular drive. The new drive consumes 0.55A vs. 1.05A on the Hitachi drive. Higher area density makes the drive actually quite a bit faster than the previous one, despite being slower rotational speed. The 100GB drive is 3 years old (made in 1/2006).

Cons: More expensive than it should be for the capacity. That's the name of the game though with IDE style drives for laptops.

I wish WD made the Scorpio Black in an IDE model; I would rather buy that model (7.200 RPM on the black model).

Other Thoughts: This was used to replace a drive in a 12" Powerbook G4. I am buying another one from Newegg to replace a drive in a 14" iBook G4.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive at a great price!

Pros: Works in my PowerBook G4 1.67Ghz with no trouble and is nice and spacious! Seems fast enough and quiet. I can hear it if I listen, but I could hear the other one too.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Newegg is the best! Got it in 2 days and was up and running in no time. If you're a Mac user, time machine will save your life! My 100GB drive died and I was able to totally restore it from the Time Machine backup on my 500GB La Cie Rugged drive (also purchased at Newegg). Man I love it when stuff works!

5 out of 5 eggsWork's well in 15" powerbook G5 1.5

Pros: Big drive

Fast

Relatively quiet

Seems to stay cooler (based on the case remaining cool to the touch) than the 80gb toshiba drive it replaced.

Cons: Makes a slight noise when parking the head, not noticeable in most conditions, but if alone in the house and surfing the web, it's audible.

Other Thoughts: This is a good upgrade for an older computer with a bad drive or if you're running out of space.

I wish someone would make a 500gb drive in the IDE format.

5 out of 5 eggsbest of its class

Pros: cool, fast, reliable and density is the highest you can get on a IDE 2.5 drive, got it for a powerbook G4 and runs PERFECTLY and FASTER than ever with this and a 2x1gb upgrade i made

Cons: doesnt come 7200 RPM but still is lightning fast

5 out of 5 eggsA great deal to keep an old laptop going

Pros: Super quiet! Good warranty. Newegg deal came with free external USB hard drive enclosures.

Cons: They use a little more power than the old drives, draining the battery a little faster (I get about an hour versus an hour and twenty minutes on my battery). Not a big deal since I almost always use the AC adapters anyway.

Other Thoughts: Bought 2 to install in matching 1.67 GHz Aluminum PowerBook G4's. Picked up the enclosures to put the old drives in. Super easy to clone the hard drives (1 with Super Duper, 1 with Carbon Copy Cloner: both free versions: CCC took longer to clone a smaller drive). Installation was a breeze with iFixit instructions. For a fraction of the cost of new MacBooks I now have two laptops that should give me years more use PLUS external drives for my music files!
