1 out of 5 eggsAs any search will reveal, WD15EADS is junk

Pros: When it worked, it was cheap storage.

Cons: It stopped working after 18 months, reads from the drive would come to a crawl and make file copying impossible.

Other Thoughts: All things considered, a cheap hard drive used for media storage that lasted 18 months isn't a miserable experience, it's just disappointing. Western Digital has not adequately addressed the issue either, as any Google search related to WD15EADS-00P8B0 will reveal.

1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: Cost

Cons: Quality

Other Thoughts: I bought two of these drives for use in a DNS-321 NAS. I started having problems with file transfers. Things would start out normal and then slowly degrade, with throughput dropping to zero and even aborting. I though it was the NAS itself, but after putting these drives into a new PC years later, I've come to find out that it's the drives themselves. Now I'm outside the warranty period. Lots of similar complaints about these drives on the net. Stay away.

1 out of 5 eggsHorrrible

Pros: zero.

Cons: worst hard drive ever, ever, ever,.... ever. EVER.

You're better off trying to remember in your head all the ones and zeros you want to store on these, you'll retain them longer.

Other Thoughts: not only terribly slow, these drives constantly fail. Expect to have to RMA it before the warranty is over, and once the warranty IS over.. expect the replacement to fail.

Green = GARBAGE.

5 out of 5 eggsyeah buddy~!

Pros: Bought this HDD on 9/30/2009 @ $131 and it's still breathing life! I have gotten my share of DOE Western Digital HDDs, but I grew up with Western Digital and I know for a fact their customer service up to par with other competitors. Every HDD brand/maker will have their share of DOE hardware, the question is how will the company accommodate your situation/needs. WD has satisfied my requests and needs thus far.

Cons: Knowing one day the hdd will give out! Other than that no cons at all!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat drive

Pros: Installed this drive 2-3 years ago. Checked the SMART diagnostics and this drive is still healthy even with a power cycle and start/stop count higher than average! Used mainly for gaming, playing music/videos, internet browsing, graphics and sound designing. Also runs very cool (28C as compared to one of my older drives which is running at 34C in the exact same fan enclosed environment).

Cons: None so far!

Other Thoughts: I installed this 2-3 years ago, and it has yet to disappoint.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't use for a Tivo hard drive, use this instead

Pros: If it worked properly & for any length of time, I would say great value for the size of the drive.

Cons: Don't use for a DVR! Made a mistake putting these in my Tivos. I have 4 Tivo's with custom hard drives I put in. Two of them I used WD black hard drives & two of them I used WD green hard drives. I thought I could save some money using the WD green hard drive since is spins slower & use's less energy. That was my reason for using them, along with the nice price. One of the Tivo's with the green hard drive after 3 months crashed, the other is very choppy, has problems going through the menu, very slow to respond & jumps around. The other tivo's I installed WD black drive's into around 2 years ago still work perfect! Another thing to note, when I was installing cable cards, I needed to do two tivo's at the same time, one had the WD black drive & the other was WD green drive. The WD black drive loaded & updated the cards in half the time as the tivo with the WD green drive.

Other Thoughts: Learn from me, don't be cheap & buy the WD black drives.

5 out of 5 eggsBest for my WHS Windows Home Server

Pros: This WD15EADS and WD20EARS are the only drives that have no bad sectors, reallocation events, or other SMART warnings on my HP MediaSmart EX495 and EX485 running Windows Home Server (WHS).

Cons: 2TB is available for not much more

Other Thoughts: Seagate 1.5TB have the most SMART errors/warnings (ST315003) on my WHS machines, although none have failed after nearly 2 years. Samsung HD154 1.5TB and Hitachi HDT721 1TB are also good.
