4 out of 5 eggsFinally Gave out!

Pros: Great hard drive and pretty fast for your standard 7200 RPM HD. Pretty quiet and kept cool.

Cons: Finally gave out today and was hoping it would have last longer than 3 years but it is still a good run for a $60 hard drive.

3 out of 5 eggsFinally Died

Pros: High Capacity. Good brand. High performance. 90$~ purchase price when I bought it 4 years ago.

Cons: The HDD finally died. This is after 4 years of use. To be fair, for the last 2 years I experienced BSODs and have spent the time since then replacing parts and troubleshooting the issue. BSODs were pointing to ntoskrnl.exe which usually indicates a hardware malfunction or drivers needing updated. Every piece of hardware has been replaced except the CPU and HDD. I imagine if it was the CPU then I would experience more issues, instead of BSODs every now and then. The hard drive does have a 5 year warranty and I am hoping it will be covered for a replacement. Even if they do not cover it, I will stick with WD because I know things like this happen, and the drive did work very well for the first few years.

5 out of 5 eggsLove these!

Pros: I've had several of these. Back when I purchased them you couldn't beat it. They were about $70/ea. and They have run like champs since day 1 and continue to. Once I fill them up they either sit in my PC and run all day, or in external enclosures and run whenever I need to pull something off them.

Cons: None. Maybe, size. With capacities growing and growing, it's maybe considered small but I don't like to invest in huge 4TB drives. I feel the 1TBs are more reliable.

2 out of 5 eggsLook elsewhere

Pros: When they are working, they seem to be all they're hyped up to be. RMA process is very good, although I wouldn't expect to have to use it on new drives.

Cons: Where do I start.... Ordered 2 of these for a new desktop build and set one drive up as a clone of the other. These were to be used purely as file storage. Right out of the box 1 drive was good and the other had SMART errors. RMA'd the bad drive to Newegg and got the replacement within a week. Fastforward a few weeks and the other original drive started receiving SMART errors. RMA'd that back to WD and got the replacement drive. Guess what... that drive was bad too so back to WD it went.

Other Thoughts: If I had to do it all over again, I would look elsewhere as to WD. The RMA process for both Newegg and WD was pretty simple and straight forward. To go through 3 bad drives to find 2 good ones seems like the quality control isn't there. I had my operating system running off a SSD and at least had 1 good drive operational while this all took place. The first 2 months of the PC build were rough due to these drives but haven't had any issues for the last 4 months.

Pros: High performance, Solid quality, Pretty quiet for a mechanical HDD.

Cons: Price

Other Thoughts: Again its high performance and high quality HDD = $$$

3 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Great drive, worked fine until it crashed

Cons: I deducted 2 eggs because when the drive went bad Western Digital replaced it but the replacement had bad sectors. I had to return it twice before I received a good one.

Other Thoughts: I've had many different hard drives in the past. You get what you pay for. This drive was good, I used it to store my data on, not a primary drive. I lost all my data twice. I can't believe I had to pay shipping to return the drive twice before they sent me one that was good.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Bought 2 of these for my pc build over a year ago, great price for the space at the time. Since then I have upgraded to dual SSD drives but still run these in my rig to store non Windows and games (ie. music, movies, ect)

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: If you're looking for a hard drive for your windows or video game installs than I would recommend looking at an SSD instead.

4 out of 5 eggsWorked for a while...

Pros: The drive worked as it's intended.

Cons: All HDD's crash at some point

Other Thoughts: Bought this back on 2012. Up and died on my suddenly. This seems about par for WD drives in my experience. They work really well for a couple of years and then they just have a sudden death. Though, that is just my observation. It served the purpose for which it was bought.

1 out of 5 eggsTwo bad units.

Pros: When it works it has decent speed.

Cons: I ordered two of them. One didn't work at all - when installed my computer would freeze after about 20 minutes. The second one worked fine for about 7 months, then developed "cycle redundancy check" errors when copying files.

5 out of 5 eggsFast 1Tb Drive

Pros: • Fast spinup time (I run my OS on an SSD)
• Reliable (I have filled and emptied this drive 10+ times with videos without getting any errors)

Cons: • Not big enough for my purposes

Other Thoughts: • If you are going to be storing videos, 1Tb is only enough for about 5 hours of beginning AVI format 1080p (once the videos are formatted into wmv, they are 2.5Gb/hour)

1 out of 5 eggsFailed after 1 year of usage

Pros: Purchased based on previous good product service and longevity.

Cons: Failed after 1 year of service. Failure mode suggested it was an issue other than a HD. Reloaded the entire machine and it ran flawlessly for about a week. Files began to get corrupted and got a black screen again. Concluded it was the drive or the MB controller. Able to save my important information and them the drive fully failed by stopping to communicate. Note, the first time I rebuilt the machine I ran all of the WD software to test and inspect the drive. All testing indicated there did not exist an issue with the drive.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this drive and two additional WD 2Tb drives. To date this 1Tb drive and one of the 2Tb drives has failed. The 2Tb drive failed in less than 40 hours of up time. Well, 3 drives and 2 are dead puts the very small sample size to be a 66.7% failure rate. Based on other reviews I am reading the WD management has made changes that put profit before a well engineered product. As Dr. Edwards Deming said, "All issues are the fault of management." I agree.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi John L, we thank you for following up with us on your concerns and bringing them to our attention in this review. We understand your situation and will gladly replace your in-warranty drive, as we stand by our products and their associated warranties.

2 out of 5 eggsUh oh Bricks Among Bricks

Pros: Can't Think of Any right now...

Okay i thought of one. The one out of 6 Drives Isn't a Brick and is still running on my PC!

Cons: Okay so i've used a Ton of Western Digital Hard Drives, Always the Black Edition.. Well every Single one i've ordered since 2012 Expect for 1 Has Arrived as a Brick, Got it RMA New one is a Brick, RMA new one is a Brick, First time it was Packaging They tossed it in a Box with No padding and it looked like it was Used for Hockey. Next one however was in a Box wrapped in Bubble wrap in another Box Wrapped in Bubble wrap i kid you not IN another box... Yet Still A Brick. Since i couldn't Trust around 4/5 Hard drives coming from Newegg. i'm Now Left with RMA with Western Digital and getting a Refurbished one. which hopefully Will Work on Arrival.

Other Thoughts: I've never Once until Now had a Problem with Newegg they've been Awesome and All powerful in my book. Well Now i don't know what is causing them to Brick hard drives maybe i just Have Really bad Luck.

SO i'll Give them Two Eggs.

5 out of 5 eggslove it

Pros: I've purchased a few of these over the years and whenever I do a build that doesn't require SSD drives, I'll grab a few of these. Not the fastest drives on the block, but very reliable and a good price/value.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I have two of these running on a computer that I built almost 4 years ago, still running like a champ.

Cons: Failed after just over a year of usage.
Western Digital support is horrible. Their support website is a joke.

3 out of 5 eggsBest RMA, not the best drives

Pros: - Relatively fast
- Good price
- WD sent me a better drive when I RMA'd

Cons: - LOUD - I RMA'd the drive because of the noise, thinking it was somehow defective. It wasn't
- First arrived with bad sectors

Other Thoughts: As stated in the cons, the first of these drives that I purchased arrived with bad sectors and I had to RMA. Not a big deal, I realize that not every hard drive works correctly. Plus, with WD offering advance returns (they send the replacement before you send the defective drive) I was able to move over all of my data and be happy.

The second drive I received was loud (so was the first, for clarification). Really loud. I had a Seagate SATA II before I bought this drive that's nearly inaudible. It's also worth mentioning that, despite the drive being years old and on a previous generation of SATA, the WD Black drive performed only marginally better. Had I known this drive is as loud as it is, I would have stuck with Seagate. I eventually got tired of the ridiculous seek noise and decided to RMA the drive, thinking it may have been defective. My PC isn't all that quiet and the hard drive still drowns everything else out.

I, again, went through a marvelous RMA process. WD even decided to send me a a 1.5TB drive rather than a 1.0TB drive that I sent back. I also believe it was a newer revision as it looked different and performed a bit better. Still loud though. I have come to the conclusion that noise is a reality of high performance Western Digital hard drives, and I only wish I had the money to get rid of my mechanical drives and move forward to SSDs.

Conclusion: Western Digital offers great return services and the drive is actually pretty solid. If you can deal with the noise.

5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Reads quite Fast for an HDD. Games load fast, Faster than my WDEZEX 1Tb blue. Good For storage and reliable.
64MB of Cache....so would be good for a primary drive.
I have used a few different Hard drive Makes but This one is by far the Best.....And Price, a bit less then $100 after Shipping and Taxes is pretty decent.

Cons: Does write a bit slower than WD Blue.
This Hard Drive is a bit loud....But that is normal for WD Black.

Other Thoughts: Though the Benchmarks suggest that the WDEZEX 1Tb Blue is faster in every way. it is not. Games will load twice as fast. I had to boot from This HDD with Win 8 pro and it took about 30 seconds to get to Desktop even when using the Login screen and Start UI

5 out of 5 eggsStill no problems after three years

Pros: This hard drive has been great for over three years and I've had no problems with it at all.

Cons: None at all.

Other Thoughts: I had no problems whatsoever, but since I've had it for a long time and all hard drives die after several years, I wanted to stay on the safe side with my data so I finally replaced this recently because I wanted more space and I needed new identical drives for a RAID setup.

Pros: Overall Western Digital Hard drives work excellent. I preferred these drives instead of other brand.

Cons: Unfortunately I bought this one and last me three and half years. I am in the process for RMA to get it replace.

Other Thoughts: Western Digital is always reliable and still keep purchasing them, unfortunately sometimes things happen, in my case it gave up after 3 years.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Excellent paperweight.

Cons: I normally trust Western Digital hard drives, but this one has been nothing but trouble. It clearly had some issues from the start, but they weren't noticeable at first. Pictures and mp3 files would randomly be corrupted, but it was hard to tell unless I was specifically looking for issues. Over time, the disk issues became more and more pronounced as the hard drive was constantly working at 100%, despite a speed of only about 4 MB/s. Now it's reaching total failure. This morning, my computer wouldn't start at all, and the automatic repair feature failed repeatedly. I managed to start it after hours of effort, and attempting to restore with a backup disk. I'm backing up what files I can before it dies permanently, but it's slow going because of frequent I/O errors and slow speeds

2 out of 5 eggsWorked well when it worked

Pros: This worked really well when it did work. I had no issues with this drive for a little under a year.

Cons: I'm not very technically savvy, but I think the drive is dying. I've identified bad sectors on it, and most programs on it won't run. Based on what I've read, I thought this would last a few years at the very least before having issues (if any).

Other Thoughts: Not familiar with WD or Newegg warranties. First drive for a first build, wouldn't give up on WD just yet.

1 out of 5 eggsShort Life

Pros: Detected right away, ran great for about 3-4 months then died

3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Plenty of space, great price

Cons: Drive started off quickly but within a few months a small click started. A few months later the clicking got worse and it has begun to cause the system to hang on large file jobs.

Other Thoughts: I have used this drive for two years so far as my primary OS drive. It is now being replaced due to my need for more storage but I would likely buy one again for a media server or other system that does not need constant, heavy file operation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive !!!

Pros: I used this drive as my main drive for over 3 years. Knock on wood, I've had no problems with it whatsoever. I had all of my pictures, and software installed on it and its solid rock !

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Since I got an SSD for my OS, I use this drive for storage only, and sometimes takes more than 6-7 sec to kick in afte idling.
Make sure you handle HDD's with care as it would extend lifetime significantly !

3 out of 5 eggsNot impressed

Pros: - Stores data

Cons: - The first arrived with bad sectors
- Replacement is very loud
- Mediocre performace

Other Thoughts: Before ordering one of these, I had an old Seagate SATA II drive that had served me well for a few years, but I figured it was a good time to expand my amount of storage. I wish I would have taken into account the satisfaction I had gotten from my Seagate when purchasing a new drive because, as the title of this review states, I'm not at all impressed with this drive, especially in comparison to my Seagate.

The first of these drives I ordered arrived with bad sectors. However, the problem didn't become apparent until after I had used it for about a week or two and had accumulated a large amount of data on it. My first step was to attempt to fix these bad sectors. After having Windows repair the drive, everything seemed fine - for a while. I was sad to find out that the problem persisted. I tried repairing the drive a couple more times, but was without success. I finally decided to back up the drive and send it back. Only problem was it wouldn't back up properly. All of the data I had put on it was lost. I must say, though, that the RMA process from WD was much more satisfying than most of my other experiences with returns. The replacement arrived quickly and without hassle.

The second drive works much better. No bad sectors, no issues. That said, it's loud. Very loud. Because I'm not too educated on how a hard drive should function, I assumed that was the price to pay for a higher performance hard drive. Then I tested it. I found that it had speeds only marginally faster than my old Seagate, which I should mention is almost entirely inaudible.

Conclusion: I don't plan on purchasing any more WD drives. If I have to get another hard drive before eventually going to SSD, it'll be a Seagate.

5 out of 5 eggsVery good basic drive

Pros: Very good drive for storage, much better than an SSD for large amounts of data, good price.

Cons: I wish it was as fast as an SSD, but that's only a wish.

1 out of 5 eggsWD 1TB BLACK WD1002FAEX

Pros: Well... seeing how the 1st one arrived DOA & the 2nd just died, what positive can I say except for Newegg's prompt attention & concern - 5egg's to them & their service

Cons: since I'm now paying for data recovery - yes, backups are something I preach preach preach, then I waited a couple weeks past norm. Lost Billings so hope they can be recovered! 2of 2 is not a good statistical record so will have to ask the data recovery folks who they DO NOT SEE!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat hard drives

Pros: Fast and reliable. The company shipped as soon as they received the order, but it did ship from China, so it took a little while. However, no complaints..!!

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I've bought these through Newegg before and love them..!! Lots of storage, and SATA III speed! The only thing faster is SSD, but they are pretty expensive, cost-wise, when it comes to storage space requirements. Yes, there are probably some 10K RPM drives still out there for sale, but I've had several gernade on me over the years, so I will not go there again. These drives meet my needs, are relatively inexpensive, and none have died on me. You should buy one or more of these from Newegg if you need storage space and/or a fast and reliable hard drive. Windows Experience rating for these drives is 5.9, but do not let that fool you. They actually are fast..!!

1 out of 5 eggsWD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB

Pros: Newegg gave me an immediate RMA for this DOA drive.

Cons: This drive arrived DOA. The 2nd western digital drive that has been defective, (1) green & (1) this one black. since I've been buying drives, only western digital have been bad

Other Thoughts: I give Newegg a 5 egg+ for great RMA responds

5 out of 5 eggsGreat 1TB Drive

Pros: This drive appears to be sturdy and well-built, it was recognized by my Win 7 system without problems, it runs quietly, performance is good, and functions perfectly on all appropriate diagnostic software (see below for caveat). No complaints so far.

Cons: None (with caveat discussed below).

Other Thoughts: Before using a new hard drive, I always connect it to a system that is known to be functioning normally and I run diagnostic programs on the drive to confirm that the new drive is also functioning normally. In the case of this WD1002FAEX 1TB hard drive, I first connect it to a SATA port on an old computer running Windows Vista 64 bit. After Windows started, the driver installed automatically, the drive was recognized by Windows, and everything looked OK. Then I booted into DOS and ran DLGDIAG v. 5.20 (downloaded from the Western Digital website). When I tried to run the Short Test, I got the following error message: "Missing Test Tracks, Contact Support," Error code 0229. I subsequently ran the Write Zeros routine on the whole drive without an error message. But when I tried to rerun the Short Test, I got the same error message. I subsequently ran the Seagate SeaTools for DOS (v. 2.20) Long Generic test on the drive and got no errors. I contacted Western Digital Support and was told that this problem results from a bug in the DOS versions of DLGDIAG v. 5.20. They recommended that I run the Data Lifeguard for Windows version of the program. I subsequently did so and found no errors. The drive seems to be working fine. Interestingly, at the same time, I also purchased and analyzed a WD2002FAEX 2TB drive using the same procedures. The WD2002FAEX 2TB drive passed all tests normally using the DOS DLGDIAG v. 5.20 program. Therefore, this bug in the DOS DLGDIAG was specific for the 1TB drive in my case.

My build components are as follows: Antec Gaming Series One black steel case, GIGABYTE GA-Z87X-UD3H motherboard, Intel Core i7-4771 Haswell 3.5GHz LGA 1150 processor, Dynatron K17 92mm CPU cooler, Microsoft Windows 7 Professional SP1 64-bit, COUGAR A760 model CGR B3-760 760W power supply, CORSAIR Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR memory, LG Black Blu-ray Burner model WH14NS40, LG Black Blu-ray ROM model UH12NS30, AFT PRO-57U USB 3.0 ports and card reader, ASUS Xonar Essence ST PCI Audio Card, Crucial M500 240GB SATA 2.5" 7mm SSD, Western Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB HDD, Western Digital WD Black WD2002FAEX 2TB, old/recycled HDDs: WD 320 GB WD3200AAJB and Seagate 200 GB ST3200822A, StarTech 1 Port PCIe IDE Controller card (for old recycled IDE hard drives), StarTech PEX1394B3LP PCIe IEEE1394 card, U.S. Robotics USR5638 V.92 PCIe Fax modem.

Pros: Worked for 6 months.

Cons: I originally ordered two of these so i hope the 2nd one doesn't fail.I bought them for a new daw build so i was hoping for something that would last lesson learned.

Other Thoughts: I RMA my doa drive and just received my new one.I got ready to load windows, but found it already had windows 7 installed on it with 3 user account on it.How the heck does that happen?I also checked the warrany on the new drive and it shows it will be out 6 months.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed but hopeful!

Pros: Great bang for the buck when I purchased at xmas on sale. Easy install. Not an SSD but good for a first time budget build.

Cons: Drive failed during Windows 7 installation portion of gaming rig build. Initial hardware checks were fine until loading the operating system. After 3 failed attempts to load windows and some troubleshooting it came down to the hard drive. Over the course of a few hours the MB would not POST without errors while the HDD was plugged in. Tested with another drive and it that one worked fine.

Other Thoughts: I bought this at xmas 2013 along with some other pieces towards a first gaming rig for my 14 year old son. We finally managed to get all the parts together and completed the hardware build on 2-27-14. On 2-28-14 we planned to finish up but fell short with the HDD failure. Since I bought this at xmas it is beyond the Newegg return policy. Hopefully the RMA with WD goes smooth and the replacement is good to go.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: This drive is going on 3 1/2 years of usage... although not consistent usage. I use it as an external drive in a case, so my experience is limited to that. I have not had any problems with it, but I do plan to back it up soon since it's getting so old. I would recommend this drive even with all the poor reviews this gets. Most technology is a gamble these days anyway.

Cons: The write speed isn't that fast but it doesn't bother me often.

5 out of 5 eggsReliable and all-around solid

Pros: - Plenty of space for even the above-average user
- Fast (for an HDD, anyway :P)
- WD's 5-year warrenty, though I don't expect to need it.

Cons: - Not an SSD

Other Thoughts: This is another solid WD product that I've owned. I've used WD drives since my dad got me into them a while ago, and I've had no real issues so far. Sure, everyone comes across a dud every now and then, but Newegg or WD has also been quick to get me squared away. Don't be scared away because of someone over-complaining about a drive dying after several years or having to deal with a DoA - they're both pretty rare.

Do be aware, though, that there is a newer version of this drive available that is significantly more cost-efficient. It's the WD1003FZEX and is otherwise nearly identical.

Pros: Purchased to have larger local storage for stuff I didn't want on my NAS, and it does exactly that. Great read and write speeds, and no issue streaming media from it to the network when I need to. Primary drive on PC is a 300GB VelociRaptor.

Cons: None, works like it should.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

Pros: Drive space

Cons: Arrived DOA

Other Thoughts: Now I have to eat shipping cost to RMA. Hope the replacement doesn't come DOA. This will be my last Western Digital drive. I've always used Western Digital for YEARS, and never had a problem. From the looks of some of the reviews on this drive, it doesn't look too promising.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat for Storage

Pros: I purchased this drive in July of 2013 and it has been running 24/7 in my 13TB unRAID server without issues. There is a lengthy pre-clear associated with using a drive unRAID which the WD passed with no issues. Basically every sector is written to and then read from, so any issues are detected prior to the drives use. Unlike some of the drives I've tried to use, this one had no errors.

I can't commend on speed because I use it in a storage array, but I can transfer data to and from my server at almost 100MBps. I do suspect this thing would be prett

I'm also a fan of this drive because being a WD Black, the spindle is attached at both ends, unlike the Green drives, which are not built as well.

Oh, did I mention this drive has a 5 year warranty? A few years ago, I wouldn't have bothered to bring that up, but these days, manufacturers are slashing their warranty periods.

Cons: It's a little on the pricy side compared to some of the other drives with similar specs.

Other Thoughts: If you're just going to be using this drive for storage, you might want to look elsewhere. There really isn't any need to spend the extra money on a 6.0Gbps interface and 64MB of cache. But, if you are using this as your OS drive, you can't get much better.

If you do ever have an issue with the drive, WD has always been phenomenal when it comes to replacements.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk DOA 3of them

Pros: You have other options. Don't buy this one.

Cons: So I did read the reviews with all the DOA's but took the risk
anyway. Bad judgement on my part. First drive, formatted ok, then died in 4 days. I ordered another new one ASAP replacement was ordered, that was DOA too, in the meantime the first drive was sent back under the RMA, that was DOA too. Finally received a good drive, now after 30 days time limit I still have one that needs to go back to WD since I delayed processing another RMA under Newegg. Just fustrating when you are working on someone's else's system and they waiting for this whole process just to get a drive that works.

1 out of 5 eggsAwful. Just awful.

Pros: None.

Cons: I originally ordered two of these in December 2013. On the one I was using, I got read/write errors, SMART errors, files will not finish copying, bad sectors, etc. I RMA'd the one drive last month, got a new one. Now that my new rig is complete, both drives won't even pass the diagnostic test put out by WD themselves. Sending these back to Newegg, which is going to cost me money, just so I can get my original money back.

Other Thoughts: I have to say I'm surprised. I've been using WD drives for years, never had a single problem. This drive though? Absolute garbage. And the fact I paid money to get my first RMA replacement, only to now have to RMA the replacement back along with the other original drive... it leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

5 out of 5 eggsgood hdd

Pros: fast (for an hdd), solid packaging

Cons: slow delivery

Other Thoughts: Some of the other reviews here listed bad packaging as a con, but I think the seller may have received the message. The drive I received was in a cardboard box, well protected against dropping, squishing, or smashing with a plastic support structure.

The item shipped from California and (with free shipping) took almost 2 weeks to get to the east coast.

Overall good drive. Can't go wrong with this one.

5 out of 5 eggsBecame a WD Fan

Pros: I was a Seagate fan for years..However recently they products have went downhill. Now for the better part, this hard drive is great. It performs better than any hard drive I've had, the speed is easy to notice, well built. I got this for $85 which is a great price for this 1T. I still love is and it's still performing great.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Give this hard drive a chance you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsWhat happened?

Pros: Usually rock solid performance. I've bought at least a dozen of these.

Cons: I'm wondering if WD has stopped manufacturing these since the price has skyrocketed recently. I went to buy one and instead bought two of the 2tb FAEXs for the price of this 1tb drive.

Other Thoughts: I still have old XP computers and need to provide compatibility with these old systems. I like buying non-Advance Format 1tb drives particularly because 2tb is a lot of data to lose and copying 2tb disks take a long, long time. And I don't want to spend 20 minutes or more re-aligning the AF drives. Just wondering if they're going to be unavailable soon.

2 out of 5 eggsSurprised that my 3TB is lasting longer than this 1TB WD

Pros: Definitely the price. I got mine around Newegg's black november bonanza, so I was really excited to get a coveted WD Black HDD for a great deal.

Easy install, worked for the short amount of time I had it, not too loud - at least among my chassis fans and the like, and quicker than most drives. Warranty, too, if I can get a replacement done with little less headache than I have now.

That's about it, I haven't had it long enough to rate other aspects of the drive positively.

Cons: Dead after a surprisingly short SHORT time. I cannot believe that I was mistaken in worrying about my 3tb monster than this puny - supposedly reliable, give the size and label - 1tb wd.

Didn't last more than 2 months. Bad sectors all over the place, a 30+ hour disc-check, write/read errors every two seconds - completely regret this purchase. I thought this drive would last me at least a year and half, but it didn't even get past a solid 3 month sit-in.

It was meant to be my quick-access drive, but I guess that was a totally bad judgment call. Will avoid WD Blacks from now on.

Other Thoughts: I've always preferred WD products. I have an external 1.5tb drive that has been reliable for 3+ years, surprisingly. I also have 500g passport that has been great for about 6 months as well.

WD makes great drives, and I'm happy with what I've purchased from them. But I guess I should think twice about buying their internal drives.

5 out of 5 eggsWD Black 1T

Pros: No problems so far. I have it in a open dock so that helps with keeping it cool.

Cons: It does run pretty warm and I don't know if I would put it inside a computer without lots of air passing over and around it. I have it in an open dock and i think that's where I will keep it.

Other Thoughts: What with the high failure rate of some drives now days I can only hope that my drive will last. I have old 80 gig Maxtors that were purchased in 2000 that are still going strong. I hope to get the same mileage out of my WD drives.

4 out of 5 eggsGood Harddrive.

Pros: Was only $100 when bought.
Storage Space

Cons: Uncomforting noises.

Other Thoughts: Used in my first ever PC build.
I have added a graphics card and upgraded memory on my old family PC before, but I have finally been able build my own.

Was considering going with a SSD and regular HDD combo, but went with just this to save money. No disappointments yet. This is a great harddrive. Has lasted me since September when I got my PC parts.
HOWEVER there are random times when it makes noises when I browse files through windows explorer. Very rare occurrence, but still makes me feel uneasy. No failures as of yet, thankfully.

Would not recommend 1TB of storage space for someone who wants to make and edit lots of videos, or anything of the sort, as they quickly eat up HDD space. Other than that, this is a good product.

3 out of 5 eggsFirst was DOA, Second is LOUD

Pros: - Fast enough to give me decent start up and load times
- One of them works

Cons: The first of these drives I received came with a pretty terrible problem. I didn't actually notice it until I tried to transfer a movie from my hard drive to and SD card. The transfer stopped and after a while gave me an I/O device error. By this time I had quite a bit of data on the drive. When trying to back up my data, I got the same error. I did my best to get as much data off of this drive onto a Seagate drive I had (which, by the way, has been going strong for years) and RMA the drive.

The second one works but is much louder than the first. When writing data to it from my other hard drive, it just about drowns out all the sound from my already loud computer. But it works and has a decent speed I guess.

Other Thoughts: Can't recommend it. I'll have to suggest buying a Seagate drive as, like I said, the one I have has been working perfectly for years. Many years.

4 out of 5 eggsWhat has happen to WD

Pros: New hard drive from RMA. This worked great and has worked under test load as well. Over all happy but it was the first one out of 4 that was DOA. Will see if it stands the test of time. The other 3 I have are running very strong never a problem and are reaching their 5, 4 and 3 years so far as I built a new machine every year. I will be building another new machine this year and will use a WD HD again just hope it will work first time around.

Cons: First one DOA. Paid shipment to send back.

5 out of 5 eggsPlenty of room for the casual user

Pros: Lots of space. Five year warranty, Good price. Good reviews.

Cons: Receive two out of five drives DOA. Slight chattering (normal Hard Drive light sporadic clicking) noise when accessing drive, distracting but okay. One returned to Newegg and one to Western Digital. Newegg's took a week from California to get and Western Digital took two days!

Other Thoughts: I blame the DOA's on the packaging from Newegg in New Jersey. One of the two Hard Drives was sitting on the bottom of the cardboard box and the bubble packing was on top of it. The one I received from California and one from Tennessee were packaged good . Newegg may want to look into its packing of Hard Drives

3 out of 5 eggsLoud Drive

Pros: Reliable...so far. I have had this for a year now and no issues.

Cons: The drive is incredibly loud. I put tape between the drive and the mount in order to deaden the sound when the drive is accessing data. While that helped, it is still loud. The read/write speeds aren't what I hoped they would be. I purchased my first WD drive about 12 years and was disappointed then as well.

3 out of 5 eggsWestern Digital WD Black WD1002FAEX 1TB

Pros: Well I guess I got a bad one. I know WD Blacks are supposed to be the best but this one lasted about a month. I should have sent it back as soon as I got it because the box all the items came in was damaged and I had problems getting a different PC to reconize it. I always check hard drives before I install them. I guess I let this one slip by thinking it was a fluke. Had to RMA for a refund. 3 eggs because I still like WD but I think I will start buying my HD's locally now because of the way they are handled in shipping.

Cons: Full of bad sectors. WD Lifegaurd Diagnostics didnt even finish because it said it had to many bad sectors. This was a first for me.

Other Thoughts: I will still purchase WD and Seagate locally.

3 out of 5 eggsI'm a WD fan but...

Pros: solid brand usually, fast

Cons: Two of these failed after a couple of weeks - Got a popup in win 7 pro telling me both drives had I/O errors. WD diagnostics tells me the same - could not even run the tests due to SMART status 'fail' - bad raw read error rate.

Thought it odd that both drives failed for the same reason - checked the MB SATA ports with different drives: no issue.

Other Thoughts: I'm RMAing for replacement - I'm confident this was a fluke and will try these again.

I'm an optimist: 3 stars

Pros: 1TB, Kind of cheap. Not a horrid hard drive when it worked. Honestly it would have been nice it if lasted long

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Easy to install and worked right out of the box.

Cons: Just died yesterday after less than 2 months. Luckily my son was using it for a backup drive only. I have owned several WD hard drives over the years and never had a problem. I guess my luck ran out. In any case, because I bought it as a Christmas present, I'm beyond the return windo.

5 out of 5 eggsgive WD Black a 2nd chance

Pros: Reliable, fast, not too loud. Warranty is unbeatable.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I originally bought a WD black in feb 2013, and it would spin up- click- spin up- click, connect, disconnect, spin up- click.. etc... got a refund and gave it 1 star. Gave them another chance in may 2013, and this one has given me NO problems... until a defective graphics card completely destroyed my system, taking out my 700W PSU and two hard drives- but that's not at the fault of the HDD. So I would say No Cons. Actually just ordered another one, so I'll have one in my Mac running all my Audio Production soundbanks; and the original in my PC doing the same as I transition my studio over from the PC over to the Mac Pro... (Running protools 10 or 11, waves plugins, and native instruments on a PC is a nightmare- Crash.. load- Crash..load- Crash.. think about loading- Crash.. I can't take it any more..)

5 out of 5 eggsWD Drives - Best in Business

Pros: I purchased 4 of these drives in 2010 for a Sans Digital RAID box that I purchased. Going on 4 years later, I've had ZERO issues with these drives. As a IT professional, I will only purchase WD drives. My opinion is that while all of the other brands may have varying levels of quality, they are, for the most part, not worth purchasing. WD will get my business 100% of the time, when I need to purchase a drive.

Cons: None.

Pros: Worked as good as you would expect one to. Fast, Smooth, flawless and very quit. Almost makes you think its a SSD drive at least the Plextor Pro that's on my main system.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: First one didn't work so well just enough to waste your time. You real need to run Western Digitals hard drive tester application before taking for granted that's there's not going to be anything wrong with it.

1 out of 5 eggsUnhappy

Pros: Solid Drive

Cons: Arrived DOA

Other Thoughts: Review the RMA requirements VERY carefully. NewEgg denied my claim simply because the date of purchase was written on a small part of the metal cover. Terms of Return do not state anything about this disqualification, yet not even an offer to repay the wasted shipping on a DOA device. Let the buyer beware!

Pros: Storage
Decently Cheap
Decently fast
WD

Cons: Noisy

Other Thoughts: I can confirm the other reviews, this thing makes noise. Not a whole lot, but it makes me a little sad coming from a laptop who's (hitachi) HDD was inaudible. This drive is about as loud, if not, slightly louder than my whole computer with fans cranked up in the heat of a game. But alas, it gets the job done, and nicely too.

1 out of 5 eggsWestern Digital Still Makes Junk 10 Years Later

Pros: Drive is fast. Scored around 129 on a test that was showing 84 or so for the other drives in the system. Not much slower than a striped array that scored 169.

Cons: DOA.

Installed in computer. Put music collection and some video on it. Drive did not want to complete copy process. Tried playing song but it stopped halfway through with "file corruption error". Then ran Seagate Tools Short Drive Test which reported a "fail" multiple times.

The drive had to be returned, which of course meant the money saved by purchasing it at a sale price was spent on shipping the dead drive back to Newegg.

Other Thoughts: About 10 years ago I bought a brand new WD drive to put a video collection on for safe keeping. Didn't touch the drive for a month. Decided to watch a video and the drive was dead. A video collection that took years to put together was gone on a brand new drive. I never bought a WD drive again.

Fast forward 10 years and the only choice in new hard drives is WD or Seagate. Seagate drives fail constantly according to reviews, while WD Blacks got good reviews. So when the WD Black went on sale I went ahead and bought one.

WD should really fix their quality control because it will be another 10 years before I purchase any more of their drives.

Pros: Somewhat speedy

Cons: Extremely loud

Other Thoughts: The first one I ordered failed in 2 weeks so I had to RMA it to Western Digital. The second one I got is fine but it's just loud. It it so loud I have to turn up the volume on games or put on headphones just so I can't hear the constant BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR this hard drive makes when accessing data. 4 out of 5 eggsGood but loud

Pros: Very good amount of space
Probably the fastest HDD you can buy right now
Good for games
Boots up Windows Fairly Fast

Cons: Pretty loud - I was concerned that my HDD was failing at first, but I've read it's somewhat common for WD so I'll just be keeping an eye on it's health. So far it's great, though.

The Price - it used to be a lot cheaper when I first put it onto my wishlist. I don't know if I'd get this for 110$ if you're on the fence.

It's not an SSD but I knew that coming in.

Pros: I have bought 3 of these one for my friends computer and the other two for mine. the two that work are fast! load times are great.

Cons: one drive worked for a bit but then was loading things awfully slow. Pros: Replacement drive arrived with a surprise. I was given a 2Tb model to replace my 1Tb drive that arrived with hundreds of bad sectors. Installed into my Storm Trooper case quickly and easily, loaded Windows 7 smoothly. So far running quietly and much quicker than my old IDE drive.

Cons: Had to pay for shipping bad drive.

4 out of 5 eggsGread hard drive

Pros: Large capacity. Fast for a mechanical drive. Ruduced loding times from a OEM 5400 rpm drive. inexpensive compared to a SSD.

Cons: Speed not even comparable to a good SSD.

4 out of 5 eggsSpeedy with lots of room to spare

Pros: - Large capacity
- Fast!

Cons: - Intermittently noisy

Other Thoughts: - Although this drive is noisier than I expected it to be, it's definitely not a deal-breaker. The speed and capacity is an excellent to the SSD serving as my boot drive.

1 out of 5 eggsNot happy!!!

Pros: None yet.

Cons: Product didn't work.

Other Thoughts: I ordered this as a gift for my son for Christmas. He wanted to build himself a new computer and started the project less than a week after Christmas but the project was held up due to the hard drive didn't work out of the package. As to date, no one at Newegg has tried to make it good with us. Probably won't be buying computer parts here again.
