1 out of 5 eggsWhy!!!

Pros: Cheap price, nice HD space.

Cons: After reading previous reviews I still risked it and hoped I would get my moneys worth. But of course I got the tick of death, the drive failed to complete any small task and took over 1 minute to open simple files.

Other Thoughts: In the process of returning it now, I am definitely getting a refund and not repurchasing this product.

2 out of 5 eggsEh...

Pros: It was a great price at the time for the type of product.

Cons: It clicked from day 1. Eventually, it would take about 50 seconds to access simple files. Now it's completely dead as my secondary HD.

Other Thoughts: I just wanted a simple hard drive to work.

1 out of 5 eggsBuyer Beware

Pros: cheap price when on sale

Cons: I love Hitachi drives - never had a bad one when bought local. I bought 4 of these, and 2 were DOA. They made a clicking noise and would not be recognized by the system. I don't know where Newegg is getting these drives, but they are of very poor quality. I also bought 4 of the 3 Gb/s version (item# N82E16822145304), and 1 of those was bad.

Other Thoughts: I understand I had these drives for a little over 30 days, but Newegg would not make an exception and exchange them for me. I had to pay shipping and contact the manufacturer for an RMA. I am very disappointed with Newegg. I will now seek other online retailers first before buying from Newegg.

Manufacturer Response:

I'm sorry to read of your drive experiences. Please contact the Technical Support Center with the serial numbers of the drives, so that we can further explore this issue with you. Please let us know that you are responding to a Newegg review. Thank you.

5 out of 5 eggsSo far so good

Pros: Bought 4 of these at a local electronics store and so far no DOA. Production date April 2012 and firmware version 600.
I configured them in a raid-5 and doing some testing on them to make sure they work and keep working. I have 20+ Hitachi drives in use at home, 12 of them running 24/7 for almost 2 years and no problems. Most of them bought through Newegg over the years.

Cons: None so far.

1 out of 5 eggsBroken

Pros: Cheap, lots of memory

Cons: I have had this hard drive for about 3 months and there have been issues from day 1. It starts to click and then freezes, my computer doesn't recognize it then I have to do multiple reboots before it starts to function again. Just today it finally died and will not start or do anything, no clicking, nothing. I can't boot my computer with it plugged in as it will not go past the motherboard splash screen, can't even start BIOS. Do not buy, not worth the hassle of getting it to work, getting one is a gamble.

4 out of 5 eggsVery fast!

Pros: - Probably the fastest 7200rpm mechanical hard drive out there.
- First consumer drive to use a single, 1TB platter. Extremely high aerial density translates into a very fast drive, and lower seek times.
- Drive it light-weight.
- Runs quiet.

Cons: Knocked one egg off for some issues setting up. Had a couple installs crash (used as game drive), and windows hang a few times due to some bad sectors. I used a free utility to scan the hard drive more in depth than the built in Windows utility, and it came up with some bad sectors.

Other Thoughts: Not sure if the drive repaired itself, or was able to recover the bad sectors, but other than the slight headache the first day, the hard drive has been running fine since then with near 24/7 uptime. To this day transfers are very quick, often 115+ mb/s both reading and writing.
Purchased 10/9/11.
