2 out of 5 eggsCheap and you get what you pay for

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: I should learn my lesson. I have bought 10 of these 4 have died with in 2 years

Other Thoughts: If you need reliability avoid these. If cheap storage is what you need buy 2 for each one you need

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: At first I was skeptical at buying a drive that was at such a low price point compared to other drives. There were 1 and 2 TB drives that were the same cost and i thought this drive must have had a high failure rate or something that caused this drive to be cheaper than others. I decided to buy this drive anyway and give it a shot. It's a fantastic drive. It is fast and works like any other hard drive should. After seeing how good the first drive performed i purchased another as a backup drive. I would definitely recommend buying this drive if you are on a budget and want lots of space.

Cons: Edit: One out of four showed up DOA

Other Thoughts: Edit: I have ordered 2 more drives after wanting to change my raid array and one of the ones that arrived had bad blocks. 1 out of 4 isn't terrible and the rest I have had for quite some time without any issues and still have a decent write speed. I would recommend if you are trying to save money, however may not be for everyone since reliability may be more important for some.

3 out of 5 eggsBit the dust after 4 years.

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: It got the job done I guess.

Cons: I don't know the average expectancy of internal hard drive, but I figured 4 years isn't very long at all. I spent $157 at the time that I bought this, and I expected this to last many many years. My old 500GB hard drive from 2007 is still kicking strong compared to this. I'm rather disappointed.

Other Thoughts: I'd recommend look at other brands before you buy this one.

1 out of 5 eggs3 Dead in 3 years

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Out of five drives, three of them have been replaced due to bad blocks. And one more is continuing to show SMART errors.

Other Thoughts: Initially bought 5 of these for my QNAP 03-2013.
In the first year two of the drives started showing SMART errors. I was able to ignore them for two years until the NAS went into degraded mode because of bad blocks on one. First drive was replaced 09-2015
After the raid was rebuilt two more starting showing SMART errors (three in total at this point) that I was able to ignore until 04-2016. At which point the second drive was replaced.
Immediately after the Raid finished rebuilding a third drive had enough bad blocks to put the NAS back in degraded mode again.

So now I'm ordering my third replacement drive. Tempted to go ahead and get two to replace the last one with SMART errors. At which point I feel much better knowing I only have one Seagate left if my array.

2 out of 5 eggsOne out five DOA, outside 30 day return to Newegg, Seagate return packing requirement is more than Newegg does

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 4 out of 5 passed SeaTools tests

Cons: Have to keep spares on hand for Black Armor NAS-440 since it tends to fail drives regularly. Recent desktop ST3000DM001 are more expensive than ST3000VN000 (NAS, but not qualified for my NAS). Most recent shipment of 5 was in Seagate factory multi-pack that had been torn in half and was rattling loosely in the Newegg shipping box. Had been stored, but decided to test after hearing of recent bad shipments.

Other Thoughts: If discounted sufficiently, worth buying in large quantities; otherwise nothing reasonable out there.

1 out of 5 eggsVery disappointed customer : added some info

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: when it was working I liked the data transfer speed was decent

Cons: this drive has a high failure rate, tons of complaints online about it failing, I had mine little over year and now its failing, seagate will send me another one under warranty but Im not too happy about that cause this model drive is defective and unreliable I dont really want another drive thats going to fail again after a year, I have a seagate barracuda been reliable lasting on 7 years now so you can imagine my disappointment with this drive...Buyer beware, Im going to also complain to consumer affairs about this drive, I dont make a lot of money and to me this cost a pretty penny, I feel I wasted $100

Other Thoughts: This was my original review since then I have gotten a replacement and about 3 weeks later it failed too, it would unmount in windows and my backup image failed to restore failure to read from source drive. A 5 hour run of chkdsk did nothing..I do not like this drive and wish I got something different even if it was a few bucks more but something I did was downloaded the seagate diagnostic tools for windows and ran a quick scan, it did not report any problems but it must of fixed something because immediately after my drive was not unmounting anymore and my restore worked perfectly.I do not recommend this drive to anyone but just thought I'd share my experience so it might be helpful to someone else with this problem.

2 out of 5 eggslasts 3 years

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: I have 3 of these in my DROBO 5D and they worked well since I purchased on 4/19/2013.

Cons: I have 3 of these in my DROBO 5D and they worked well since I purchased on 4/19/2013. I had one fail almost 3 years to the day and from what i have seen on other reviews 3 years seems to be the failure point. I am anticipating the other 2 to fail pretty soon.

Other Thoughts: I would go with NAS specific drives from this point forward hoping to get more that 3 years. Im thinking WD Red maybe.

2 out of 5 eggsGot Three years and 2 months out of it!!

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: While it worked it was a great drive, no issues with transfer rates between this and my SSD, no errors what so ever in fact until...

Cons: No warning at all before failure in a desktop that runs approximately 2 hours a day. I would have expected a little longer performance for something with limited use.

Other Thoughts: For the price it's not a bad option, but I'd order extras as backups.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointing reliability

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Economic solution for a lot of storage. Good transfer rates.

Cons: I have a NAS with four of these that I've had in service for just about exactly three years. At initial install, I had three failures. (Not all at once, one failed, a few days later two more failed.) They ran reasonably well, but I started getting errors on them after the three years were up. I've recently replaced three of the four with the same model, because I'm apparently glutton for punishment. Of the three replacements, one failed at install with a very large number of bad sectors.

Other Thoughts: Bang for your buck, there are better options out there.

2 out of 5 eggstwo of five bad upon arrival

This review is from: Seagate Desktop HDD ST3000DM001 3TB 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: FAST

Cons: High failure rate until you get some good ones

Other Thoughts: Ordered five to up the capacity of my raid array. 2/5 were bad and showed thousands of media errors. Ran seatools against both and failed. The other three seem fine at least.

Shame as I'm upgrading from 4 x 1tb seagate desktop drives that have gone strong for 2yrs now. Also have a 1.5tb seagate drive for backups that's been fine.

I moved in to Toshiba drives for the business workstations i build in anticipation of this type of issue based on the rep of these drives. I've deployed 26 2-3tb Toshiba consumer hard drives that cost the same or a couple bucks less than these and have only received one bad one, though those are a touch slower by about 20MB/s

These do read and write at between 200MB/s and 210MB/s every time. I'll still use them in my home rig for this reason and because I've got them in a RAID-5 AND backed up
