1 out of 5 eggsNEVER Buying Seagate AGAIN !!

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Did GREAT for 2 Years and 2 WEEKS...

Performed well for a while...

Cons: Right after the Warranty Period (2 Years and 2 Weeks) this drive is failing terribly. Had 10G worth of I/O errors in my Logs almost take down system.

Putting a WD on order as soon as funds permit. 5 x WD Green 1TB drives (WDC WD10EADS-00L5B1) from 2009 are all still Running Flawlessly...

Just reminds me, when you find something that actually works you should stick with it. Thought I would give Seagate a try since I hadn't used them in a while... Never Again !!

Other Thoughts: Z1F1J376 9JB1N4-574 Out of Warranty

1 out of 5 eggsNot Reliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Seagate is very supportive of testing backup systems. I appreciate the many times they have lovingly forced me to test my restore methods. Their drives make a great energy drink replacement as you won't ever sleep...or leave the office. The many years of my life I've lost are just a sacrifice I have to commit to. Thank you Seagate!

Cons: Not reliable at all. Died after 2 years of light use, right around warranty expiration. This is the second Seagate hard drive I have had crash (meaning, it became unreadable then lost the format). Very disappointed with Seagate products. They need to understand our data is valuable and make products that last more than 2 years.

Other Thoughts: Heart attack next? You can build my coffin out of crashed hard drives and make the Thailand facility carry me at 0 RPM - the same speed as my latest drive.

1 out of 5 eggsUnreliable

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: They have reasonable performance

Cons: The failure rate is very high. I've had about 10 of these drives and over the past few years, 6 of them have died.

1 out of 5 eggsAfter only 3 years, 17,616 bad sectors

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Size, price

Cons: Terrible quality. The numbers below are suitble for drives of catastrophic quality - NOT defective merchandise. It has been power cycled very few times, has a decent avg temp, yet is failing completely. Smart data after three years indicates:

- 17,616 bad sectors
- Seek Error rate: 8788320112
- Power on hours: 2 yrs ,10 mos.
- Spinup Retry: 0
- Power Cycle count: 58
- Reported uncorrectable errors: 29 sectors
- Airflow Temp: 97F

Other Thoughts: Do not buy this HDD.

2 out of 5 eggsDead after 2 years

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Was cheap at the time
Cheap enough that you should buy two of them and raid them

Cons: Failed after 2 years, which is of course outside of warranty.

Other Thoughts: Hard drives always fail, make sure to have them in a raid.

Had it in a zraid so I suffered no loss from its failure.

2 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: These were one of the largest drives on the market when I purchased them back in 2013. Read and write speeds are reasonably fast.

Cons: I originally purchased 4 of these drives for a RAID 10 array for a photo editing machine. After 2 years one failed catastrophically. There was no clicking, grinding, or smart errors as an indicator. Large amounts of the sectors failed and any machine with the drive installed refuses to boot into windows. If I wouldn't have had a RAID array and additional backup all the data on the drive would have been lost. This failure rate is unacceptable. I will be moving to another brand for any new machine I build.

1 out of 5 eggs15% of these drives fail

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: None

Cons: My drive failed after a little over a year. I lost a ton of media. It crashed bad enough to where I couldn't use any recovery software to get anything back. The drive would not mount. It was dead. I later read a report on 3tb drives and that they are notoriously unstable. Seagate is one of the main offenders with 15% of its drives failing within a year, which is a lot. Just sayin '

1 out of 5 eggs2 drives failed in 24 months

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: quiet

Cons: Installed 2 of these Seagate 3TB drives in my RAID NAS server, and both reported I/O errors at 20 and 24 months. 1 drive had many I/O errors, but the 2nd drive was not mountable any more. Had to replace both and restore from backup.

1 out of 5 eggsRated 5 rotten eggs

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: 4/7 still running

Cons: 3/7 drives failed. I purchased 7 of these drives in 2013 and 3 of them have failed - most recent one this past weekend. That... is... completely... unacceptable.

It's laughable that the drives are all out of warranty already too.

Other Thoughts: I'll be voting with my wallet - that is all I can do. Future drives will be Western Digital or someone besides Seagate. Hopefully, in another year or two I won't be buying anything that spins anyway.
