1 out of 5 eggs2 years and 1 month, SMART says it's toast

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good price, fast for a large HD

Cons: Failed exactly 1 month after the warranty. Funny how they work that way?! I have Hitachis and WD drives that have lasted for a long time, but this conspicuously dies right after the warranty.

Other Thoughts: I wouldn't buy it if I were you.

5 out of 5 eggsNice drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Very nice amount of storage. Quiet.

Cons: nothing so far

Other Thoughts: This drive is running on a MSI fm2 motherboard. The board only supports sata 2 so the drive is not able to transfer as fast as possible. Running Linux Mint 17 KDE. Was running out of space as box doubles as a home survailence system when I'm not here. Up to 5 gig a day is being observes and the 1 tb driv was filling up fast. This should give me a lot of "breathing room". Am satisfied with drive.

1 out of 5 eggsAvoid

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Cheap... but you get what you pay for.

Cons: I've had 4 of these over the last 2 years and 2 have died and each of them lasted less than a year, roughly about 9 months or so.

Other Thoughts: These were/are (since I have 2 left) in my media server. I think I'll be sticking with NAS style HDD's from now on instead of these drives.

3 out of 5 eggsI Value Readers Review

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Was initially excited about a drive with this capacity.

Cons: My drive just went bad last week. Did not outlast my 07 Toshiba laptops 160gb WD HDD. That is a con.

Other: people that get excited about posting a review that their drive has been going strong after several weeks.

Other Thoughts: Seagate, what is your PPM target?!?! Your quality rate is very sad. Seagate engineering and manufacturing should be ashamed of themselves. We had a Segate tower go down 2 years ago, Sounds like they need a regorg in that company. I'm done with Seagate.

Customer / User reviews are important to me when using several sources to validate my concern.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Absolutely None

Cons: I went through THREE of these drives that were bad straight out of the box (the first one started up for about 5 mins then crashed, started making a loud beeping and disk scratching noise and was done for good.. the rma that newegg sent lasted about a day, then the same.. by that time neweggs rma period was up and i had to go through seagate's warranty program to get yet ANOTHER replacement, and when i put that in, boom, dead within a couple hours, same symptoms... on a side note i also got the 4tb version of this drive, the first one of those I got was also dead out of the box, the replacement i got for that worked and is still working about 3 months later). After the third one I said F@#% this, I am just buying a different brand of drive rather than get a FOURTH replacement.

Other Thoughts: SAVE YOURSELF TIME AND HEADACHE, GET SOMETHING ELSE

1 out of 5 eggsYet another dead Seagate drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: Good price, large size

Cons: Drive is dying and throwing all kinds of S.M.A.R.T. errors after only 6 months. This is just the last in a long line of garbage drives from Seagate for me.

Other Thoughts: Seagate's drives just keep failing and failing on me. I don't know what's going on with that company's QA. The worst part is, to add insult to injury, I buy a brand new drive, and only six months later, I have to settle for a refurbished drive which, if history serves, will just die again in a short time, and will be out of warranty at that point. I think that it's time I learned my lesson and stopped buying Seagate drives. This will be the last Seagate drive I ever buy.

4 out of 5 eggsnice drive

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: it has lots of space

Cons: none that is manufactures fault see other thoughts

Other Thoughts: windows does not see the 3tb naturally you need to partition the space out to look like 2 different drives in windows, if this is something you would not feel like doing then a 2tb drive might be better for you

1 out of 5 eggsYOU DON'T WANT IT.....

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: They seem to die within the initial warranty period...so I guess that could be considered a good thing???

Cons: This is a follow-up to my previous review 6-11-2014; all 3 of these drives have died on me now...

100% failure rate...3 out of 3 dead after just over a year...

Other Thoughts: Seems Seagate has switched to a 1YR warranty, probably because they were replacing too many under the 2YR warranty...which was previously a 3YR warranty just a few years ago...

Also, I could not find ANY warranty statement on Seagate's site. The only thing I found was a statement "Check product packaging for warranty info"...so apparently they expect you to purchase first and then find out it only has a 1YR warranty...pretty slick...also OEM drives ship in a plain ESD bag, so...WHAT PRODUCT PACKAGING???

3 out of 5 eggsOk, I guess, but not good for NAS

This review is from: Seagate Barracuda 7200.14 ST3000DM001 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive Bare Drive

Pros: The drives themselves caused no problems at first.

Cons: After a year and 9 months of use in a QNAP TS-212 nas, two of these drives failed with bad sectors. These drives aren't really rated for NAS use with their stock firmware - I recommend looking at other products for use in any kind of RAID setup

Other Thoughts: I deducted 2 eggs because of the short life of these drives, and that they developed head crashes without being touched after less than two years. I've had problems with other seagate devices before, with similar issues - bad sectors and read/write failures on an external hard drive storage unit.

I'll note that I have a couple WD drives I'm replacing these with, rated for NAS, that are 4 TB for around $50/drive extra.
