    5 out of 5 eggsReliable

Pros: Bought in 2009, still works in 2015 - used daily with 2% available capacity as main disk on a desktop computer.

Cons: Directories showing 1000+ files can be slow to load in Windows8.x and Windows 10. Not sure if fault of Windows or disk...

Have experienced some file date corruption once in the first year...

Other Thoughts: Have been lucky with all disks from most brands, except WD Velociraptor where 3-4 disks failed every 6 months - in the end I gave up returning disks on the warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsStill going strong

Pros: Purchased this HDD in 2008 for $100.

I'm a heavy gamer and at one point most likely used this HDD as a primary disc. The past few years it has been used as my main storage device, with 70-90% capacity filled up. It' still running strong today. Has been moved between several PC builds, and have had zero issues with it so far.

This alone has me questioning my choice of a different brand while looking for more space.

    Cons: None.

4 out of 5 eggsFor your consideration

Pros: I have read a lot of reviews about this drive over the last few years that say it fails early. Most of these reviews are based on regarding the drive as failed once it fails diagnostics tests, not actual experiencing a failure. I have one of these drives and it has been performing flawlessly for years. When I run diagnostics on this drive, sometimes the software won't even recognize the drive. On some it fails SMART, others it's a pass. On some it sees bad sectors, while Windows detects none. And the results vary based on what operating system I am testing with and what diagnostic tool I am using, none of the results agree. But one thing agrees. The performance. Read/write, excellent. Response time, excellent. Writing to it, erasing and writing again, over and over. Everything is actually operating the same as ever. No corruption in transfers, no actual data problems. I can store as much as the capacity was originally. I have tested this drive in W7, XP and W8.1, file transfers galore. Wiped it completely out, reformatted differently, wrote to zeroes and started over, basically twisted it every way I could think of. Bottom line, it has not actually failed in any way. It's as fast as it was day one, behaves exactly the same but now for some reason it won't pass an hdd drive diagnostics softare, or maybe it will, if I put the drive in another box. So what is my conclusion? I have none. I am going to keep hammering on this HDD until it actually fails. So far it's been a long test. I think that it has something to do with this drives reporting of SMART. There isn't actually anything wrong with the drive at all, it's reporting in error. If I ever blow this drive up, I'll let you know.

    Cons: doesn't pass dianostics

    Other Thoughts: spunky drive

Cons: Drive began to have bad sectors after a year of use. I wish I had bought a different hard drive.

4 out of 5 eggsDied after 4 years

Pros: very good reliable drive for past 4 years and 3 months. It was in a system that's on pretty much 24x7.

    Cons: none

Other Thoughts: Suddenly started making clicking noise and disappeared from windows. I have a western digital that's working great for last 7 years 24x7 so i guess samsung need to improve its quality. I am trying to recover data now.

5 out of 5 eggsStill got 5-6 of those running OK

Pros: - over 80% of this model's quantity I have purchased holds up very well - high performance, quiet, warm but not hot
    - cheap, good value
    - survived as external hard drive, traveling and connected/disconnected daily for a few months
    - runs in hardware RAID with no fuss

    Cons: - short warranty
    - it's a shame the remaining 20% of total quantity I purchased died after (sometimes shortly after) end of warranty.
    - discontinued - why? you can probably buy HGST with same specs for $75, which is still a very bad deal, considering you can get a 3TB Toshiba for $119 when on sale.

Other Thoughts: aside from WD Black 1TB, this was probably the best SATA II hard drive 3-4 years ago, in terms of value and performance

    5 out of 5 eggsHD103UJ

Pros: I bought this hard drive 5/8/2009. This Samsung I have had for 4 years. In December of 2010 it survived a fire with smoke damage, but it is starting to die. The best hard drive I have ever had. So I'm going to use it as secondary drive.

Cons: Sad that its about old.

3 out of 5 eggsnot the most reliable HDD, but pretty silent while working :D

Pros: Silent, no over heating, good speed

    Used iot 4 years, 1-2Hrs/day.

    SATA 2 interface.

Cons: had 2 of these disks for 4 years. one dyed in first 4 months, and was replaced in Waranty. Second one died after 4Years and 1month, out of warranty.

Type of death: sudded death, no sign of problem until is no longer seen by the PC.

Other Thoughts: After first HDD died , i bought an identical one and created a mirror partition in Windows to keep all important stuff.

    2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: purchased on 4/21/2009. drive died on 12/1/12. worked for 3+ years

Cons: lost about a week of data since my last backup. not the end of the world, but an inconvenience. Have been very careful with the drive and was in a machine that was not used heavily. Disappointed to see a drive die after only a few years of light use. sending to Samsung for RMA. we'll see how that process goes...

5 out of 5 eggsReliable for several years

Pros: Have had this drive for almost 4 years now and it still works great. It's been reliable and performs great. Temperatures are lower than my seagate and hitachi drives.

    Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Originally bought this for a desktop build back in 2008. I've kept it in a media/storage server for a couple of years now. Works great!

1 out of 5 eggsSamsung hard drives are junk. DON'T BUY!

    Pros: Pros? What Pros?

Cons: Drive works for a little bit, then it will go dead and/or otherwise become inaccessible, unrecognized in BIOS and unrecoverable. Samsung hard drives are a waste of money and everyone considering them should strike samsun hardrives off the list as they are nothing more than the worlds most expensive paperweights.

Other Thoughts: Avoid Samsung hard drives. You'll be glad you did.

3 out of 5 eggsupdate after 3 years ownership

    Pros: Got 3 years service.

Cons: bought 2 of them on 2/2012. Have worked perfect until today. 1 of them suddenly won't unzip a big rar file. The first sign was an extremely long file transfer that should of only taken a few minutes but took about 20. Next I tried having windows check it for errors but after starting the error check it froze some other programs i had running and had to restart. But will still show in the disk display. I just bought a 2 tb HD and will hopefully move everything off it. If not oh well I think everything was backed up on the other 1 tb I had. Pretty cr@ppy luck having it poop out 2 months after end of warrenty.

Other Thoughts: Luck of the draw. They should have a graduated tier of reimbursement for time after the end of the warranty period. Like they pay 1/2 the reimbursement the 4th year, 1/3 the 5th year 1/4 the 6year....ect. But Naaahhh that would be too fair. Craziness I tell you!

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Fast Reliable Drive

Pros: Paid less than 40GBP for this drive and had it a couple of yrs now. Never missed a beat what-so-ever. Very quite and very quick for my needs.

I had it as a boot drive for the 1st 1yr and a half and it also performed. I now have it as back-up media / photo's drive and it comes out of its sleep state mega quick.

I also used WD Green 2TB 64MB But i must say this drive is far quicker.

Cons: Price today is a joke for you guys in USA, we are still able to purchase at much more sensible prices in the UK.

Other Thoughts: Wish i'd bought 4 of these, cos they just go on and on and on. Think I may look at your "auction site that you guy's kindly set up for us Brits" thanks guy's

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Performers

    Pros: - Reliable
    - Quiet
    - Good price/space

Cons: - Slightly slower than advertised

Other Thoughts: I've had two of these in my main gaming box for over two years now without issue. Keeping them as storage drives while upgrading to a Crucial M4 256GB SSD as the main system/programs drive.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of junk

    Pros: Worked for a while.

Cons: Failed after 5 months worth of usage. It was installed in a computer that I use only periodically. It clicked some and then would not allow computer to reboot even though operating system is on another drive. Samsung won't honor warranty - says that product is under warranty but claims drive is out of service area. I guess that means it wasn't supposed to be sold in the USA. That's the first time I've encountered this excuse. No more Samsung anything for me, since I have no way of knowing if a Samsung product I buy in the US comes with a warranty that will be honored.

1 out of 5 eggsSMART failure after 2.5 years

Pros: Worked well while it lasted.
Failed within 3 yr. warranty period?

Cons: After about 2.5 years the drive unceremoniously stopped mounting, and I got constant I/O errors, and the SMART status said that the drive had failed.

Other Thoughts: Samsung RMA'd the drive no problem. A week later a Samsung F2EG HD154UI (samsung 1.5TB drive) is reporting very similar errors, the drives were located in different machines throughout their lives, coincidence? or samsung? The other 4 or 5 samsung drives are operating normally.

4 out of 5 eggsgood drive

Pros: I have 2 of these drives, they are almost as good as the WD blacks, I have them running in raid 0 with almost no problem.

Cons: -One drive died after 9 months so - one egg.

Other Thoughts: I paid $59 for both drives on sale, if you can get them for this price do. other wize go with a 2 TB drive as they are coming down in price

    3 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Quiet and runs rather cool in my gaming rig (22ºC)
    Somewhat fast data transfer
    Average of 28.4MB/s.

Cons: Takes about 6 minutes to move 10.5GB of picture and movie files.
28.4MB/s, not as fast as my other drives, but I'm using it as a back up of my back up.

Other Thoughts: I received mine for $80 from a local computer store. Hoping that this isn't a drive from a bad batch. I haven't exactly put it under any pressure, yet. May switch out my main 320GB and transfer everything on to this one and see how it holds up.

Pros: Relatively cheap for a 1TB drive, doesn't make a lot of sound, and works as expected. Very nice as an external drive (I put mine together with a Rosewill external enclosure and it's perfect)

2 out of 5 eggsThe horror....

Pros: Was fast.. when it worked.. Was setup as a secondary backup drive with minimal use.

Cons: 1st on died in 6 months, RMA'd, that one died in 26 days, RMA'd, DOA would even power on, RMAd.. waiting on 4th drive to arrive.. .. These seem to be plagued.. This was a first time to buy a samsung drive.. Dont think ill be making that mistake again..

Other Thoughts: Was sucked in by the price when I got this.. sadly, another lesson of "Buy Cheap, Get Cheap" was learned here.. When I receive my new drive, I plan on selling that thing as fast as possible... And not just these drives, but a LOT of 1tb drives seem to be having issues.. Even with the amount of issues Ive had, I will rate it 2 stars just for the sheer fact that when it works it gives great performance.

5 out of 5 eggsSolid Drive

Pros: Very quiet and reliable drives. I havve run a couple of these in RAID 1 for over a year without incident. I also have single F1s in service and in variousl installs without any issues.

Cons: No real cons - excellent drives for the money.

Other Thoughts: Never a problem as RAID drives, have used Nvidia and Intel chipsets and am quite satisfied.

    2 out of 5 eggsProblematic

Pros: Large capacity for a good price when I got it.

Cons: I noticed some strange characteristics early on after I built a new system with this drive. The drive would malfunction and cause a BSOD/reboot during intensive disk I/O, such as defragging, doing an image-based backup, or intense gaming (Crysis, Far Cry 2, etc). I put up with it for over 1 year because it did not always happen but I couldn't defrag or do image-based backups (and gaming would crash sometimes). I know it was the drive causing the issue because once I replaced the drive with an imaged new drive, the problems ceased.

Other Thoughts: Previously I'd only ever had hard drives to flat out die (click of death), so the problem I had with this one was weird.

    4 out of 5 eggsWould've said 5 stars but...

Pros: Decent price, fairly quiet, adequate performance

Cons: One out of the five drives I received was defective (couldn't initialize the disk).

Other Thoughts: I purchased three of these for RAID 5 on my ASUS P6T motherboard with Win7 back in July of 2009. I kept getting errors on the same drive, so ordered another from newegg and was going to return the old one to the manufacturer. Hopefully just bad luck, but my replacement drive from newegg was defective. I then learned about an issue lots of folks are having with Intel's RAID driver 8.9.1023. The unofficial recommended fix was downgrading to version 8.8.0.1009, and I haven't had any errors since. So the first drive I thought was defective was actually ok, but the replacement I ordered really was defective. Newegg was good about RMA'ing me a replacement, and that one was fine. Sucks I had to pay $10 to ship one back though.

    4 out of 5 eggs1 good 1 bad

Pros: Purchased 2 drives on 1/11/2009 (1 for my PC and 1 for my HP EX-470 WHS) Drives were inexpensive and have very cool temps. Hard Disk Sentinal reports 27C - 32C. Drive 1 is in the PC and hasn't had any issues.

Cons: Drive 2 is in the HP WHS and has a SMART issue, specifically READ RAW ERROR RATE. This is listed as "Pre-Failure: Data Loss Predicted" Also, there is a warning for "Current Pending Sector Count"

Other Thoughts: I will be attempting to 'remove' the drive from my WHS pool today, before losing data. I'll then RMA the drive to Samsung =( Also, the Power On Time for the curious = 342 days, 19 hours.

1 out of 5 eggsDrive failed fast

Pros: Worked well in raid0 inside symbology server for 52 days.

Cons: Failed after 52 days - refuses to spin up and is making grinding noises. Server is on UPS and in cool room. Only thought on failure cause is that Symbology spins down idle drives after an hour so the drives are getting more spin up/down cycles than my other servers that never power down drives.

I guess we're renting our drives now.

Other Thoughts: I'm not very happy with terabyte and above sized drives. In general they less reliable that <500G drives. Every TB drive I have has had some small glitches. Meanwhile the 6 year old 80G drive has never even had a CRC error.

    5 out of 5 eggsAwesomesauce

Pros: Plenty of space! Certainly allows me to stretch my "data arms and legs", so to speak. 32 MB cache is super cool and even though I'm still running off 1.5Gb/s instead of the full 3Gb/s, it's still decently fast.

Cons: My PC is only accessing this drive at 1.5Gb/s but it's not that bad of a problem, nothing a simple upgrade can't fix.

Other Thoughts: Using this to run and play all my games as well as other programs (movie making). Great for a game drive!

Cons: I didn't get two of them for RAID 0?

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Backup HDD

Pros: Can't comment much about HDD speed performance since I only use this unit as a backup of a backup. It doesn't fail, nor does it make crackling noises and temp seems negligable.

    Cons: None

Other Thoughts: I bought this hard drive to make it a backup External HDD with USB2.0 and eSATA interfaces.

5 out of 5 eggssweet samsung

Pros: These hard drives are awesome. They are very reliable, and have very good perfomance when compared to other manufactures. The drives have excellent warranties. I never hesitate purchasing these drives for the machines I build for my clients.

Cons: they run so quiet I sometimes don't think they are running.

Other Thoughts: Samsung used to be very unreliable but seen to have turned things around. You see these drives in all kinds of manufacturers. For the price they cannot be beat.

4 out of 5 eggsAmazing Deal

Pros: Great size and very fast access speed. For the price, what more could you want? 5TB and 20000 RPM and 64 MB Cache? I know, but let's not get greedy!

Cons: Since it does what it's supposed to do, there isn't any con unless you want something bigger and faster but for the same price.

Other Thoughts: Its so good that you should pay 100+ for it. Newegg, what would we ever do without you?

3 out of 5 eggsFailed After A few Days.

Pros: With An E-Sata Enclosure It Hit 98 MB/s Read & Write And 135 Mb/s Burst. But It Fail A Couple Days Later. Of Course Its A Bummer As It Was A Back-up Drive But I Have Gotten Mostly Everything Back To Normal.

Cons: Drives Fail And This Shouldn't Keep You From Buying It. Where Not Talking About A XBOX 360 Failure Rate Now. Thats A Different Story!

2 out of 5 eggsOh the Horror....

Pros: Its fast, Ill give it that.. But death comes quickly

Cons: Owned first one for 5 months and it began giving me the clicks of death.. RMA'd it, new Drive was DOA, RMA'd again,(Current Drive) and just a couple months later it took a dump..

Having to RMA again... Hey, on the upside, every other RMA Samsung foots the bill for shipping..

Other Thoughts: Wont be buying any more sumsungs after this. I bought it this time because I couldnt resist the price.. But im gonna go back to WD.. As long as you dont buy Blue series your good..

Pros: very nice hard drive of course doesnt come with the complete 1 terebyte but not many hard drives too so i guess i shouldnt be judging, i put this inside an external enclosure, sunbeam airbox and ive actually dropped accidently while running at least 3 times and my heart has stopped every time, but i still have it and surprisingly running well

Cons: the hard drive takes a tiny bit for my computer to recognize but im not using the eSATA connecting, just a small con

5 out of 5 eggsGreat HDD with a punch.

Pros: 1.) Price is very good specially if you find them on weekly deals with promo codes and free shipping.
2.) 3 discs within the case makes the speed of this thing fly. Really great idea since it's actually faster then my WD raptor hdd. Also Windows 7 experience page gave me 5.9 instead of 5.7 of raptor.
3.) Doens't heat up much. Just warm to touch.

    Cons: no cons of yet.

Other Thoughts: Have purchased one as soon as it came out just out of price point but was pleasantly surprised at it's performance and since then bought 3 more of it.
    Definitely recommend it to everyone.

5 out of 5 eggsGood Drive

Pros: I bought 2 last January in a RAID 0 configuration and they are still going strong. I bought another 1 in May and it also has no problem. I just got the 4th one this week and tied it to the 3rd one in another RAID 0 set for backup. (Wasn't sure if I could safely turn them all into a RAID 10 with no data loss with the onboard Intel ICH10R)

    Cons: None

1 out of 5 eggsCheap Drive, Expensive Paperweight

Pros: Arrived in typical time, less than a week. Worked great initially.

Cons: Of course, after about 5 weeks, the click, click, click began. After checking out my system quickly isolated it to this drive. Ran diagnostics, reformatted, WOW, now my 1tb drive is only 8gb!!

RMA site really a mess to use, and when my replacement drive shows up, I refuse to lose another 500gb+ of files, so I guess I'm gonna leave it on my desk as a reminder: NO MORE SAMSUNG for me!

1 out of 5 eggsBad drive. Not sure about Samsung

Pros: Price and size. Easy installation.

Cons: As others have reported, this drive died within one week. I understand that drive deaths are inevitable from any company, but these seem to have a particularly bad rap. It worked fine for a week and then I began getting cyclic redundancy checks indicating that Windows couldn't read/write information to the disk. That's a red flag. Then I ran a full 5 hour CHKDSK on the drive. It indicated multiple bad sectors/blocks. At that point I tried to go back and boot Windows, and Windows had become completely corrupted and unable to load. I then ran Samsung's own diagnostic tool (ES-Tool) and did 10 diagnostic passes on the hard drive. During the random sector scan each time, it gave me back code AJ36 (bad sector). So, this drive was a bad apple right from the get go.

I simply can not recommend this drive due to my own experience and the multiple bad reviews by others. Maybe Samsung will get their act together in the future, but this is particularly worrisome.

Other Thoughts: I knew I should have just spent a couple more bucks and gone with Seagate/Hitachi/Western Digital. I know they have their own rates of hard drive DOA/defectives, but they certainly seem to be at a MUCH lower rate than Samsung.

Many people send back perfectly fine drives that they just think are defective. After multiple tests (which I suggest everyone do before an RMA/return), this one proved itself to be quite a dud.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Listen folks, HDDs are getting bigger and thats awesome. I come to you all to tell you of how 1 TB's of space is just the beginning and how this drive performs. On that topic, I have to say this is a perfect and ideal HDD for the money. Loads of space and I can't fill it up even if I tried to backup my entire DVD collection to it.

Cons: The cons are out for lunch right now.

    2 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Size, price, and quick shipping.

Cons: I tried 3 different computers and different enclosures and it never got recognized. Tried for 3 hours and gave up. Then I had to pay shipping back and I lose $13 on top of that.

Other Thoughts: Why is it that some hard drives work and others don't, on these computers? Waste of time and money to get nothing. Nothing against Newegg, just don't understand why.

Pros: These are solid drives. I own four of them and have had no issues. They are quiet and reasonably fast (see cons). I use a hard drive bay fan, so I've had no issues with heat.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Drive

Pros: Great drive - quiet, cool, massive amount of storage.

Cons: Need to buy more so I don't have to use 3 backup drives for a single backup.

Other Thoughts: 1tb takes like 3hrs to run a full chkdsk on.

Anyone running this drive in a RAID isn't doing RAID right- don't complain about cheap drives failing in a RAID, go buy a RAID class HD that's meant to work with a RAID and you will see more success. They're more expensive, and there is a reason for that.

Pros: Haven't been able to use drive yet- see other thoughts.
    Customer service much improved

Cons: Drive does not show full capacity- tried Samsung's DM_Creator and HD capacity restore- both show hardware problems

Other Thoughts: My earlier review indicated poor customer service- but the fault was mine, not Samsung's. We have resolved the problem and am sending HDD back for RMA. My apologies to Samsung and their customer service dept

Pros: None because it doesn't work after a couple of days

Cons: Did I mention it dies after a couple of days?

Other Thoughts: I ordered two Samsung Hard Drives, one for myself and the other one for my son. Mine died within one week. I finally returned it to Samsung and I got a return within a few days. Guess What? The replacement died in less than two days. I am sick about it.
My son's computer has started to freeze. I have traced it back to the HD. It is the only thing in common between our computers. Will never buy Samsung HD again.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible customer service

Pros: None- Drive formatted after three hour long format, and then was put away for later use- but not usable at this time, three months later. Cannot get full capacity of drive, even with Samsung's HDD tools.

Cons: Customer Service is awful. They give you scripted replies, and their website for RMA request is lousy. Can't tell you how drive performs cause can't put data on it.

Other Thoughts: Capacity is only shown as 7 GB, rather than 1 TB- ran their HDD tools- used Samsung's own DM_Creator to boot into DOS and check disk. Program reports there is a hardware problem with the disk and cannot format it.
RMA request resulted in code 106- non-official product- and they won't honor warranty. Mfr date on HDD is 3/2009- less than a year. Also tried HDD capacity restore, with same result. No useful drive+ no warranty honored by Samsung = paperweight

    1 out of 5 eggsGarbage

Pros: When the drive works, it's a decent drive. Heckuva pro, eh?

Cons: My first drive failed within 2 days, and of course, it failed during raid5 rebuild, so it took my raid5 offline for about 10 days until I could get a replacement. The second drive failed also within 2 days, this time taking some of my data with it, as I was working on repopulating my raid drive with the data at the time. You have to make pretty trashy hardware that can't complete a single write and read cycle...

Other Thoughts: I'm so sick of garbage drives made in china, I have no idea what to do any more... Out of the last 4 1TB drives I have bought, all four have turned into bricks. Including the RMA replacement of this Samsung, 5.

3 out of 5 eggsNew ones are slower

Pros: I got one about year ago and it perfect very fast quiet cool I two of them a week ago they look different on the PCB side other that same drives revision model all that but one of the new one is about 30MBs slower the other about 20MBs slower on wright test they are both about 10-15MBs slower on read test so they are as fast or as slow I should say WD 1TB harddrives

Cons: Slower than one I purchased about year go
Older one is 113MBs Write 110MBs Read
    1st New 71Mbs Write 89Mbs Read
    2nd New 96MBs Write 101Mbs Read
all thou thees are good performing drives but still much slower than one I got earlier.

Other Thoughts: I noticed firmware number is different on new ones I got ( slower ones ) samsung may fix with a better firmware latter.

1 out of 5 eggsNot so great

Pros: Price was right for this drive, bought as a second drive for media storage.

Cons: After installing drive, formatting, etc. Began to get multiple read/write errors. Event logs shows multiple, sequential bad block errors. Removed/deleted disk from Disk Manager, re added, format etc etc. same problems once again.

Pros: I have used many types of hard drives and found that Samsung hard drives are the best in terms of reliability. My Samsung hard drives have outlasted all other hard drives that I've tried. I recommend them to everyone.

Cons: The price was high when I bought it.

5 out of 5 eggsVery Good so Far

Pros: Very good, 1TB of space, 32MB Cache. Good speed for a HDD.

Cons: Seemed at first that it was going to have the problems that everyone else had but realized it was my fault with a bad install of Vista.

Other Thoughts: Great transfer rate, hope to buy a new one from a Raid setup but will see also if I get the same problems as anyone else.

    Pros: Quiet.

Cons: The hard drive completely stopped working after literally almost exactly a year. Bought 12/27/08, stopped working on 1/5/10

Other Thoughts: Hopefully I can find my receipt.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes the job

Pros: Performs well. Windows 7 5.9 rating. Seemed to improve boot times and app load times. No installation issues. NTFS Formatted capacity 931GB. Does not appears to make any noise that can be heard over 120mm fans. Arrived very quickly. Thanks Newegg!

Cons: None as long as does not fail within 5 years.

    Other Thoughts: Q6600, P35, 4GB memory, 8800GT. Upgrading from a 250GB Hitachi.

    5 out of 5 eggsFantastic

Pros: Plain and simple drive. As long as you can install it yourself you won't have any problems. I've had the drive for three months. It's full of data and doesn't give me any issues.

    Cons: Not a single issue.

    Other Thoughts: Arrived quickly.

    5 out of 5 eggsAwesome...Yet Again!

Pros: Drive works great! This is my second HD103UJ, and I have no complaints!

Cons: I wish I knew how to activate "Staggered Spinup" and that it was more clearly documented...

Newegg shipping of the OEM drive seemed adequate, however, it is not up to manufacturer standards. If this drive were to need manufacturer RMA, and I packed it the way Newegg did, my RMA would be rejected. I guess thats what you should expect buying non-retail.

Other Thoughts: To those folks that have 1 or more RMA drives, how many hard drives and accessories do you have in your system? Are you sure you have a strong enough power supply and that your 12V rail isnt fluctuating?

1 out of 5 eggsStay away.

    Pros: --

Cons: I purchased 2 of these on newegg super sale back in the summer. I'm finally needing them and BOTH drives failed. The first one after 1 week, started clicking like all the rest of the negative reports. The second one didn't even last 30mins before the systemboard quit seeing the drive. I had to power cycle the machine for the BIOS to see the drive, but after 30mins of use Windows would crash/lock, again, due to the drive disappearing from the BIOS.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy this drive! Get your act together samsung!

5 out of 5 eggsFast, cool and healthy

Pros: Nice to have another 931GB of space available.

Was set to be a secondary drive for just storing archived data (movies, music, images, etc), but it was cooler than my 1TB WD drive with comparable data transfer rate. With this, I went with installing Windows 7 on it after a week of having it to see how it'd do with constant use, gaming, etc. 3 months in and it's still healthy and fast.

Cons: A little on the noisy side but very quiet compared to most of the drives I've had.

Not as fast as some of the other drives, but still has respectable rates.

    Pros: Worked for 3 months.

    Cons: Died after 3 months.

Other Thoughts: Newegg kindly gave me a RMA for the drive since Samsung would not help me out. Purchased a Hitachi drive.

Pros: Great Drive, bought mine almost 1 1/2 years ago and it's still going strong. Quiet at a good speed for a good price. I paid close to $100 more at the time. Nothing to complain about.

    Cons: None.

    5 out of 5 eggs

Pros: Pleasantly surprised, exceeded expectations. Owned for 4 months.

Drive is much faster, noticeably than my old 7200 RPM drive. Don't know enough about hard drives to say why this is, I assume the data bandwidth had something to do with it. Did not expect this performance increase when buying this drive.

    Cons: None.

1 out of 5 eggsBad Drive

    Pros: Cheap

Cons: When I got two of this drive, I did not use them immediately. After about 3 month, I installed the drives and one of them is shaking very bad constantly, the other is making a ticking/clicking noise and was not readable. So I took out the broken drive and did not give too much thought about it. One year later, I installed the drive as part of a RAID0+1. Initially to my surprise it was working fine, but then after 3 months, the clicking noise comes back and the drive was not readable again.

    Pros: none anymore

Cons: both drives started to click and freeze the computer. i have opened up ticket with samsung for the first one but have not received any response. its been 5 days or so now.

Other Thoughts: probably won t buy samsung anymore and will stick to seagate with which i have had good experience. the main drive on this box is seagate (640 gb) and 2 * 1TB samsung.

    5 out of 5 eggsExcellent

    Pros: Price
    Size
    Speed

    Cons: None so far

Other Thoughts: I got now 2 of these hard drives. I also own 2 raptor 1000RPM and my experience is close to the reviews. The raptors are still delivering superior performance but by a slight margin and for a much higher price.
When I received the Samsung drives, I transfered internally the data on 2 existing drives to the 2 new drives and I copied about 1.3TB in about 3hours!!! The transfer rate was in average at about 60Mb/s and peaked at about 90Mb/s.
The only drives to do transfers at that speed were so far my SSD drive and my raptors...
I am ordering another 2 now...

    3 out of 5 eggsQuite Cool Fast..except...

Pros: i order two of them. to have 2.6 TB of storage (in new build and 3 TB in the old build).

    they are:
fast ...quite...cool.. large...cheap...i love the storage capacity. 3 stars for one not working correctly (50% of purchase defective) this is a hassle for me since now i have find time for backing up as well as storage space. i need a lot of storage due to my recording of my daily trading activities.

Cons: i order two of them. one of them however freezes my computer for up to 5 seconds and then a clicking happens. once the clicking happens things resume back. however, this happens often. so i will sending one back to samsung. if things go smooth with Samsung i would give them 4.

Other Thoughts: i never had any issues with segate drives. if things don't go smooth with return and/or the second drive creates issues in future then i will never buy samsung drives. Don't get me wrong i love samsung products just ordered un55b8000 but some companies are better at certain things e.g. samsung with TVs and perhaps seagate for HDD.

i have had segate drives (6 of them) since 03 in my first home build still working flawlessly.
of ourse never shopped anywhere else for electronics but NG since 01-02. :) thanks NG.

Pros: Easy installation, worked great while it lasted.

Cons: Moderate use, clean conditions, and it dies after 8 months. Spend the money on a known brand. Trying to save $30 cost me a lot more in time and aggravation. Never again.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this drive

    Pros: Stores Data

Cons: Bought 4 of these drives and 1 shipped DOA. Newegg replaced right away and then I had another failure within 9 months. 2 failed drives out of 5 in less than a year - not a good percentage. Just bad luck - maybe.

Other Thoughts: You get what you pay for. I bought these because they were $40 cheaper at the time than any other 1TB drive.

    5 out of 5 eggsGreat

Pros: I've had this drive for several months and it has been rock solid. I should point out that I do not run my PC 24/7, choosing to shut it down when I sleep.

Cons: The jumper pins don't seem right, like a couple of them are missing when compared to a diagram in the manual. This hasn't caused an issue in my setup, but if you rely on jumper settings then raise caution.
