4 out of 5 eggsNot bad but not great

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Lots of storage for not too high of a price
Reliable and fast

Cons: I'm not sure if it'd be this way for all the drives, but my 3 TB drive only has 2.76 TB. I know all about how the memory allocation works and that you'll never get quite as much as memory devices say, but 250 GBish is pretty hefty/significant. Overall it's still not bad, but definitely worth mentioning.

Other Thoughts: Overall it's a solid purchase if you need a lot of space.

3 out of 5 eggsNice drive +caveat.

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: -Performance?
-Plug and play, once you set it up in disk management.
-Okay price for the size

Cons: Nothing comes with this drive. Just a newegg box, and some packing bubbles. No Sata cable. No power connector, No installation spoons, nothing. If you're going to pay 200 bucks for a HDD, an 8 dollar SATA cable is expected.

I dinged this another egg because I really don't see any major performance increase over the WD Caviar Blue. And this is a bit more expensive than that line.

1 out of 5 eggsDOA

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Standard HDD. Storage up to 3TB. Came in an anti-static bag wrapped up in bubble.

Cons: As the title says, it was dead on arrival. TShot for an hour and decided a 0TB read from all my machines meant it was dead. I am going to give this a single egg since reliability of high-capacity storage disk is vital.

Other Thoughts: I was about to move 1TB of family pictures/videos to this baby... now I can't make up my mind... where are the reliable performance drives at these days? And paying for shipping again stinks.

5 out of 5 eggsFast and quiet

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: This drive replaced a close to 5 year old WD 1 TB (FALS) Black drive. I also have a WD 2 TB (FAEX) Black drive in my desktop . This drive is both quieter and runs cooler than both of the other older WD Black drives. It is subjectively faster than both of the older drives as well without the SSD caching I describe below.

Cons: None to this point in time.

Other Thoughts: After installing the drive I did a full format and copied over the contents of the 1 TB drive to it. I then installed an unused Intel 40 GB SATA II SSD that I had. I installed and set up the ASUS SSD caching software provided with my motherboard (P8Z77-V Deluxe) with this new 3 TB drive as I do a fair amount of gaming and I thought this might help with quick reloads. It is certainly faster at fast reloads than from the 1 TB drive (without the SSD caching) but it isn't as fast as I was hoping.

Overall I am quite pleased with this drive and my purchase from Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsUse at your own risk

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: high storage

Cons: unreliable. completely died in less than 2 months. No warning, no indication, just flat out I/O error. gone. dead. 100% loss. Several other drives I have were raided for the important stuff, but this drive was holding over 2TB of steam games, which is going to take forever to redownload them.

My Setup:
OS: 128 GB SSD OCZ
RAID 1: 1TB HDD Seagate x2
Games: This now dead drive.

5 out of 5 eggsStorage

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Decided to raid two of these and I think the benchmark showed in the mid 300's on both read/write

Cons: Pretty loud for a HTPC in a theater when the case is close to your couch

1 out of 5 eggswdc sucks

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: none

Cons: this drive came to my hand just one day, after overnight data transferred, it looked ok, packed up and client showed up to take drive, before leaving, he would like to try drive and guess what happed? drive dead on the spot with no sign, it was so embarrassing and wanted to dig a hole jumping into it, how WDC can make drive such low quality, I will permanently lost clients confidence that I have been built up so many years.

Manufacturer Response:

5 out of 5 eggsIt works, noisy though

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Works as advertised

Cons: makes more noise than my 500GB WD, which was silent. this thing you will hear spinning

Other Thoughts: the noise doesn't really bother me because it's not really loud, and ill never have to worry about space again. I'm just a gamer and I've never been too concerned with HDD's but if it helps my Magician software for my SSD says this HDD's stats are

Seq. Read: 36
Seq. write: 50

random read: 375
random write: 423

it should be noted I have windows 8.1 installed on a motherboard that doesn't have window's 8 drivers, just windows 7. so performance could be affected

5 out of 5 eggsWD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB

This review is from: WD BLACK SERIES WD3003FZEX 3TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive

Pros: Super large capacity, pretty fast transfer rates and a reasonable price. And so far it has been very reliable, extremely quiet and vibration free.

Cons: Heavier than most drives. Missing middle mounting hole and reports of other two being off making mounting a possible issue

Other Thoughts: I have three choices in mounting the drive so I am sure I can fit it in permanently. So far I have been using it in a plug in Icy Dock Hot Swap Backplane which does not use any screws so I cannot speak about the mounting hole issue directly.
