2 out of 5 eggsPogoplug Pro NAS - RMA

Pros: This device has the potential to be good but definitely should not be called a "pro" device. It is very easy to set up, it is a very nicely made product, its wireless and web access to files is pretty nice.

Cons: The major con for me was that the product states it will act as a print server for a USB printer but as I found out and others on their support forums post - many printers just flat out don't work. This was the second most important feature for me to buy this product. Tech support was less than desirable with this issue as first response was within 24 hours but after it had to be escalated I waited 8 days to get another response. The other bad part about this cheap NAS device is that all the functionality is based off of software running on your computer and not on the device like higher priced NAS products. The software was rather buggy at times but had a good user interface.

Other Thoughts: The marketing says it will act as a print server but only after you buy the product and try to configure it does it tell you in the interface that it is a "BETA" feature of the device. With the printing feature not working with my LaserJet P1006, the buggy software and the semi-bad tech support I received I decided to RMA the product. I'm now looking into buying my own hardware and setting up "FreeNAS".

4 out of 5 eggsGreat device, some hacking required

Pros: Inexpensive
Dual-core ARM
Can install Arch Linux ARM
Internal SATA port
Lots of possibilities

Cons: Seems somewhat useless out-of-box
Why no eSata connector?
Not inexpensive enough (unless you catch it on sale)

Other Thoughts: I got a refurb on a whim when it was available at a low price. So far, I have only installed Arch on it (external USB) and upgraded the system, done a little poking around and playing. So far it is a great little ARM box to hack around with.

3 out of 5 eggsNice web sharing & But poor performance

Pros: It is a nice concept to share photo video music or Documents over web once you download to attached external hard drive [which is connected to Pogoplug Pro device] No special configuration required for web sharing and easy to set up. I have almost 48 GB of data[ pictures, video, music and documents] It took almost 72 hours for data processing. Any thing downloaded to external hard drive, is processed[ transcoding] by Pogoplug sever and once that processing is over, then one can view those file. During processing, performance may be lower.

Cons: I had major issue with this device, larger number of my videos I am not able to view even after transcoding [video streaming process by pogoplug server] is over. I have sent several e mail to customer service and their reply is prompt but still my issue remain unsolved. File which I am not able to view are in AVI,MOD or other format. Once transcoding is over, I should be able to view, those video file. Customer service replied that video should be in H264 format, but my question is that If i have to transfer all my video file in H 264 manually, then what is the point of buying this device . This is the reason I have given 3 star to this device. I have not problem with picture, document and music file.

Other Thoughts: For best performance of this device, network speed is desirable, I have Verizon FIOS Internet with 15 MB download and 5 MB upload speed. Even with this high speed connection, data transcoding-processing took almost 72 hours for 48 GB of total data[ photo video music & documents] Further after several communication with Pogoplug customer service by e mail, my Issue still remain unsolved. STILL I AM NOT ABLE TO VIEW LARGER NUMBER OF VIDEO FILE ON THEIR WEB LINK. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS DEVICE.

5 out of 5 eggsPogoPlug Pro

Pros: Network file storage at a great price. Access files from my phone, offsite computers, local network access. This is a very simple easy to use NAS. I would recommend it for everyone. Easy setup. Reads all types of filesystems (FAT, NTFS, HTFS+, etc.)

Cons: Large files are slow to move.

Other Thoughts: Well worth the price! Nothing else I have seen beats it for "cloud" storage.

5 out of 5 eggslove it

Pros: Network file storage on the cheap. Access files from my phone, offsite computers, local network access. This is a very simple NAS without the administration. Recommend it for everyone. Easy setup. Reads all types of filesystems (FAT, NTFS, HTFS+, EXT3, etc.)

Cons: Technically mine isn't meant for more than 2TB. Some external drives don't work with it but I don't have any problems. Not a substitute for a real file server. I think wireless is a bad idea for this thing too. Hardwire it.

Other Thoughts: I own the pink version so that is a less mature iteration of this device. I wouldn't expect this thing to handle massive amounts of traffic, I think people need to recognize when they need a file server or a pogoplug.
If you just need a simple network attached storage device with the ability to access those files remotely, then this is your device. Don't expect to stream that 1080p movie offsite from this thing to your phone/notebook. If you want a great network storage solution for any OS and want to share some files (like pictures) with anyone then this thing will do it.
Keep in mind this device hinges on your local network connectivity and on your internet connection. If you have a slow router or a slow internet connection this will not perform. It also will bog down if you are trying to transfer many gigs of data through it all the time; that's when you need a file server.
If you needed to dig a ditch you wouldn't grab a spoon would you?

2 out of 5 eggswaiting for USB4

Pros: Awesome technology, from the user experience perspective. The concept of the device is great.

Cons: Waiting until they get a USB3.0 interface on that think. I think that getting less than 5MBs over the network lan (or internet) is ridiculous. USB 3 technology will increase the speed of these types of devices greatly.

1 out of 5 eggsReal piece of junk

Pros: Big promise (but no performance)

Cons: It is really a piece of junk. It probably needs a few years of work to make it usable. Does not perform at all as promised in advt. At best it is still a pre Alpha stage product. Support is non existant. It has a forum where users are supposed to help each other but all there is the complaints from users.

Other Thoughts: Save yourself a favor and save some money and headaches.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks great for me

Pros: I share family files with my sisters and their kids. Both are sisters are living in other parts of the world and sending attachments of large videos is problematic to this thing solves that problem nicely since I am don't want to use youtube.

Cons: Internal to my network I can't access content across the two routers I have unless I am on the same node. Even if I use the web access method. There may be a solution but I haven't figured it out yet.

Other Thoughts: Works very well for what I use it for.
