2 out of 5 eggsWorst picture quality monitor ever seen

Pros: Can be gotten cheap.
Looks nice while off.
Came with an HDMI cable, Display Port cable, and 1/8" cable to connect to your audio output. Was surprised.

Cons: Title is not an overstatement. This is, literally, the worst PQ monitor I've ever seen. That, or it came from where I bought it damaged so that it looks like it works fine but is just terrible at what it does.

Main gripe is the bright bands across the bottom and top of the screen, coming from beneath the bezel. Again, maybe this one is defective, but I'm not so sure. I haven't seen one working other than this one, which is headed back where it came form tomorrow. To me it looks like a badly designed edge lit display meant to reap good profit margins because it is cheaply made.

Almost as bad, if not worse, as the edge light problems, is the black levels. They aren't even consistent from top to bottom, but they are just awful everywhere, and no real way to fix them other then compensating by making the entire display too bright. Dark blue is black on this monitor. Dark green is black. I knew there was a problem when the default settings have the brightness and contrast at 70/100.

Save yourself a headache and just get a 32" 120Hz smart TV like I did. Samsung or Vizio, take your pick. Look like a million dollars compared to this Planar "monitor"--except the one I got was only about 100$ more--and they are superior and more flexible in every way possible. I'm afraid the days of the "monitor" on the casual gamer's desktop are over.

Other Thoughts: For this kid of money you can trade the useless Display Port (understandable if you have a 3 monitor setup to want DP, but if so, get a different display port monitor with better color/blacks) for tons of Smart TV apps,120Hz motion flow to make them look compelling, a wide array of inputs and flexible controls, as well as much, much better speakers.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate

Pros: See other thoughts.

Cons: There's still dead pixels, the touch controls are a bit sluggish.

Other Thoughts: After I wrote my previous review, I decided it would be less hassle to just keep the monitor since there is not a FedEx or UPS drop off for such a large package in my area, and after some more usage, some the the stuck pixels have cured, but there's still a few dead pixels in the display. I would give it 3 eggs, but I offer 4 to balance my previous posted review.
If you are looking at this monitor, I would not outright recommend it, but I do suggest weighing the pros and cons. If you can manage to RMA it if yours arrives minus a few pixels, and are willing to calibrate the gamma and color (Windows Vista, 7 and 8.x have this tool, just hit start and type in "Calibrate display color" and it'll pop up [under "Settings" on the Start Screen on 8.x] and hit enter), this could be the display for you. Planar is really a great company, they make a lot of enterprise class displays, I just had the misfortune of a bad product experience and an utter lack of means to return it.

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent when set up right

Pros: Excellent color with some settings. If my (your) graphics card is set to RGB the color is way wrong and the back light is simply way to bright and text is wildly over-sharpened. Setting the color space to YCbCr444 cures the color and back-light/black point problem. Then setting the color mode to 'TEXT' cures the over-sharpening bit and then delivers a monitor with excellent color balance and a fairly (to very) sophisticated visual feel to it. With these settings this monitor is the most color accurate of all the many monitors I have used over the last 25 years.
I find zero value in the normal, movie and game presets.
My two sets (dual monitor setup) are in excellent harmony with each other and are delivering a very excellent picture that allows fine tuning color throughout the value range and around the whole hue wheel.
These units use 24 watts of power as measured by my measuring tool.
They are straight ahead units design wise, which is fine for me, visually they are fine.
The base is largish, fortunately I have a fairly large and deep desk.
After a bit of a freak-out over getting them setup right I am pleased. As long as they continue to operate in good health I will be very pleased.
This is a fairly not known company and I was not going to try them until I saw that they own Runco, who make extremely expensive video projectors. I figured they must know something about color if they own Runco, and that seems to be born out here. They also make very expensive industrial monitors, so I hope durability is built in.

Cons: hard to setup, regular settings are way over sharpened, no sharpening control. Color controls are limited, fortunately for me II want a color correct and calibrated monitor and this seems to be what I have here. Would like more controls, though, or at least the ones here not being locked when you choose a preset.
The manual and website are fairly spartan.

2 out of 5 eggsGreen Tint & A Side Dead Pixels

Pros: It's big, it's HD, it has DisplayPort, it's Planar.

Cons: As soon as I powered this up, I felt a fear that something would just have to go wrong with such a large display - and what do you know? I was right. The display was decidedly green until I found the settings to manually adjust the coloring. It would be nice if the displays were looked at before being sent out to warehouses.
A couple days after fixing the color, I saw a dead pixel near the top of the display. I filed an RMA and was a little dismayed at the shipping costs, so I thought I'd be better off just dealing with it, but a few weeks later more pixels have suddenly died! I'm not happy with this purchase at all, and I do not recommend anyone waste their money on this.

Other Thoughts: ClearType was ridiculously insane to configure for this screen, and the viewing angles were much less than expected. HDMI input does not fill the display at all, no matter the resolution. DisplayPort does however.
I have owned a Planar once before, and it was an epic display. This however, is just cheap plastic and dying pixels. Very disappointed.

5 out of 5 eggsVery very nice.

Pros: ZERO dead pixels. I went with the PLANAR monitor because of the great reviews, and the low numbers of bad reviews, and they are an American company (still not made here, but can't help that with any monitors that I know of)

Very crisp/sharp display, I can now see the tearing when I don't have the vsynch enabled in video games. I couldn't see that on my old monitor.

Desktop real estate!

Cons: Cheesy little stand, the top of which is not flat, so you can't put speakers on it to save desk space. The monitor's speaker(s) are about as bad as those little piezoelectric speakers that they used to put on motherboards for the POST error code beeps. (I didn't buy it for the speakers though so I can't really complain about that).

Other Thoughts: Arrived faster than I expected, paid the 99 cents for the 3 day shipping and got here in two days. All praise to the egg! Upgraded from a PLANAR PL1700M running at 1280x1024 which hat an extremely annoying high pitch sound. I was planning on using that as my command line interface and other stuff screen in Autocad, but I probably won't now that I've played with this huge screen now.

3 out of 5 eggsContrast is terrible !

Pros: Colours of this monitor is good

Cons: Ridiculously too sharp that make your eyes not comfortable to look at.
The brightness and contrast of this monitor is terrible. You never can see a deep Black but always and a white layer over it ( it makes you feel like look through a layer of white fog).

Other Thoughts: I Impress with the price and specs . Good for surfing internet or office applications. But a NO - NO to game or Detail User (like me).

3 out of 5 eggsMy First Ever Stuck Pixel

Pros: The price for size was good.

Cons: There is one bright red sub pixel stuck on the right hand side. My wife can't notice it unless I point it out to her, but I find it infuriating. This is the fourth flat panel monitor (second from Planar) I've owned, and the first time I've ever had a stuck/dead pixel. The speakers are terrible, with a very tinny sound and a terrible range. To hear everything, you have to turn the volume up very high, which makes them sound worse. The picture on this monitor is good, but dim. Turning the brightness up loses too much sharpness.

Other Thoughts: I bought this to replace a recently deceased Samsung 2963HM. I was hoping that the increased size on this Planar monitor would help ease the sting of the lose of my beautiful Samsung, but the dead pixel, poor speakers, and inferior picture quality makes me mourn my Samsung even more. I have a PX212M from Planar that I've been using for 5+ years now that I've been extremely happy with, but that was also a very expensive monitor at the time. The PXL2760MW is clearly deficient when compared to my old Planar and to my beloved Samsung, but I guess you get what you pay for.

2 out of 5 eggsDead pixel

Pros: - Beautiful picture.
- Easy setup.

Cons: - Dead pixel. Opened it up, turned it on, and boom - dead pixel in the bottom corner. Very sad about that, I thought everything would go well but it appears it hasn't.

Other Thoughts: Now let's see how good Planar's customer service is...

5 out of 5 eggsMy Second one

Pros: So I wanted a 27" with display port for dual monitor use on my board. 1 Display port 1 HDMI for dual monitor setup. The first Planar 27" I've had for a year and a half. It's been great no dead pix's stellar looks for the price. Don't let the low price scare you away, I've had no problems and love the large monitors.

Cons: NONE

5 out of 5 eggsBeautiful

Pros: Out of the box to setup and clean crisp picture in no time. Wether connected to my PS3 or PC these have a beautiful picture. The preset color adjustments are all about as good as it gets.

Cons: The built-in speakers are worthless, but I don't really care since I'm not actually using them, they could have not been there at all and I'd still be happy.

Other Thoughts: An easier input select would also have been nice, I use the 3rd monitor as a PS3 screen as well, so a single input select button to cycle them would be nice. Also, as I got them for a trip monitor setup smaller bezels would have been awesome.
