5 out of 5 eggsAlmost Perfect

Pros: This is an excellent projector, that is nearly perfect 9/10. Color, contrast, and clarity are all outstanding, motion is smooth, and the image is bright enough in the right circumstances (brighter than expected).

Cons: The projector can be picky with HDMI, and VGA input signals if not in the right format, brigtness is low (but you should know that going in at 500lm).

Minor focus issue requiring a 10 minute warm-up time, set the focus and don't adjust it on startup, it will eventually correct itself after the optics warm.

Other Thoughts: Yes it doesn't have audio out, that is what home theater receivers are for! For all of the above I got it on sale for $400 and would buy another at that price in a heartbeat. At 600 it is another question

3 out of 5 eggsGreat projector except for...

Pros: Great(720p)HD picture, lots of input options(even S-Video which is great if you want to hook up some older game consoles to it), bright: it's watchable even with a little light in the room.

Cons: No audio out. If you are using external speakers for this you have to run audio from whatever source you are using. This really hurts the portability of the unit (on-board speakers are pretty weak. Loud fan, this thing has a fairly loud fan when not in "eco mode" which brings me to my next point, there is no Eco Mode. At least, the unit I was shipped does not switch to Eco Mode. I think it is some kind of firmware bug, because I was able to switch modes once but never again after that! It's weird.

The last con is the worst. I am hoping this is also something that future firmware might fix. Many users have reported this problem and I was hoping Optoma was working out a fix. It is the "Searching for Signal" bug, and it really sucks. The screen randomly goes black and the unit tells you it is "Searching for Signal". If you are lucky you will be able to get through a movie or TV show without the bug cropping up but since it is random it may happen 2 or three times in the same hour. It happened to me a bunch today which prompted me to come write this review.

It is VERY frustrating and if I can't find a solution soon I will be forced to RMA this projector.

Other Thoughts: If it weren't for those (i'm guessing) Firmware bugs this would be a great little projector.
