2 out of 5 eggsKind of Annoying

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Aesthetic design is very nice and the monitor is great for gaming and/or doing everyday work. I would be very happy with this monitor if not for the cons listed below..

Cons: A couple months after I bought it last November, the connection between the monitor and my CPU started to fail. It's been getting worse and worse since then, to the point now where even a small nudge to my desk will cause the monitor to go black for 4-5 seconds. This is especially annoying when I simply want to adjust the angle of the monitor and instead the screen goes blank. I have tested other monitors and other cables to make sure it was this monitor's problem as well.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Jonathan,

Thank your for your time in posting a review about our products. On behalf of ASUS, we would like to apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Let me help you with the monitors connection issue, did you test all the display ports of the monitor? HDMI x 2, D-Sub, DVI-D (via HDMI-to-DVI cable) I just want to confirm the port that is having a problem. For further assistance, please email me at customerloyalty@asus.com and place the case #N150704739 in the subject line for a reference.

Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Best regards,
Jerry A

3 out of 5 eggsGood, but bad experience

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Screen looks excellent, good adjustability settings, very unique design.

Good selection of cords that it comes with, I very much appreciated the VGA to HDMI cord.

Cons: I had to go through not one but TWO RMAs to get one in decent shape. The first had a dead pixel, which I did read others had issues with.

The second the screen frame was bent out like someone had pried it off.

No problems getting the RMA but are they shipping out refurbished instead of new ones? My last one had a big dent in the box, a cord bag that was already open (though it was present), and the screen had some dirt and fingerprints on it.

Another small con is that the stand has to be "Popped" out of its sitting through VERY strong use of force initially. Strong enough I thought I would break it, but I didn't. Only my first one was like that, the other two the stand moved very easily.

4 out of 5 eggsASUS VX238H-W Monitor

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: I purchased this monitor after receiving an email from Newegg about their daily or weekly promo deals, can't remember which.

Let me just start out by saying that after promo codes and the manufacturers rebate were applied I ended up paying about $120 total for this monitor. I was skeptical at first because of the low price.

This monitor is truly amazing. The white color out of the box looks amazing, I purchased it because it matched my case, and the overall look I'm going for.

The picture quality is solid out of the box, and the ability to pick the picture mode is great. Each mode seems okay for what its supposed to be for.

The 1ms response time is awesome. Gaming and movies with a lot of action are so smooth with this monitor. The contrast ratio is great, but could be better (see cons)

Cons: I have to take an egg off for the following issues.

The lack of a DVI port is annoying, but is an issue I can get past. HDMI is okay, but it has a fixed refresh rate and resolution available to it. In some games the resolution will show a refresh rate of just a hair under 60hz (If you like to game over 60 fps and actually see it, this isn't your monitor)

The base seems a little weak, but it's done the job so far. As long as you put it in one place, and don't bump it, it;s solid. More of a caution to other buyers then a complaint.

The speakers are useless, don't use em unless you have to.

Lastly, the color out of the box is great, but could be better. I suggest using the utility windows has built in (under control panel) to fix the contrast and gamma issues. The picture will actually look much better this way.

Other Thoughts: Seriously if you ever get the chance to buy this monitor if its on sale for $120, do it! Despite the cons, I would've bought a second in a heartbeat if I had the extra money.

5 out of 5 eggsAverage 16.67ms of Input Lag Perfect for 60FPS games like Street Fighter

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Aesthetics: Looks professional, white enclosure all around
Input: DB-15x1, HDMIx2, 3.5mmx1
Output: 3.5mmx1
Ghosting: 1mS GTG limits any ghosting issues you may have when playing on larger monitors or TVs
Input Lag: Averaging 10mS of input lag is what makes the monitor worthwhile. A 60FPS game like Street Fighter has 1Frame(16.67ms) combinations so this monitor will eliminate any handicap you may currently have using a slower monitor. So when it's time to take your game on the road to tournaments or even casuals you'll be well calibrated to their hopefully sub16mS monitors as well
-Speakers: It has speakers, that's always a plus. You won't get any bass out of them but depending on ambient volume of the room your in they maybe useful or useless. The 3.5mm Audio output will resolve the latter.

Cons: -Power Supply is not universal, so if you need to replace the AC/DC Transformer make sure it matches the VDC and current if you're buying third party
-There are less customization options for image quality then it's competitors, but enough for the majority of users
-Not VESA Compatible, you'ld have to make a custom adapter to wall/track mount this monitor
-Not really a Con but, do not buy this monitor for true color presentation, this is a purpose built monitor for gaming to eliminate any ghosting or input lag

Other Thoughts: Need a lagless monitor for your console? Buy this, cheaper when on sale then its competitors for the same specifications. Recommended for any Fighting game enthusiasts, casual and competitive alike.

4 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Looks great and works well. Comes with plenty of adapters and cords.

Cons: The foam sleeve wasn't all the way on during shipping. About half of the screen was exposed.
The bottom of the screen bezel wasn't snapped together in 2 spots.
One pixel stuck on bright green almost dead center of the screen.

Other Thoughts: Hopefully more pixels don't die.
Still not sure on why i had to snap the bezel on the rest of the way. You'd think someone would've noticed that when they stuffed it in the box.

5 out of 5 eggsLove them, but....

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Absolutely beautiful. I love the performance, size, color, just everything. The connectivity options are awesome.

Cons: Not Vesa mountable which really blows. I totally forgot to check whether I could mount these, bu tI don't plan to return them just for that.

This has nothing to do with the monitor, but it does kinda suck that you can't daisy chain hdmi ports like display ports.

Other Thoughts: I plan to get one more and make a surround setup for my games once I get a better gpu to go along with them.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Bargain

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: Great Picture Quality, Stable, Cheap.

Cons: None as of yet

Other Thoughts: DVI to HDMI cords that come standard are a bit short so you may have to buy longer ones, but that's moot.

5 out of 5 eggsFantastic quality product!

This review is from: ASUS VX238H-W White 23" 1ms (GTG) HDMI Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 80,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: 1. Size is quite comfortable to view from on various sized desks or other furniture.
2. Color Depth/Contrast Ratio (80,000,000:1) is superb.
3. Plenty of different video input adapters were provided.
4. Aesthetically pleasing with a very slim (white) case.
5. Setup was quick and painless with no issue using any of the various adapters provided.
6. Response time (1ms GTG) is fantastic for gaming, my video editing and other assorted media.
7. Screen is evenly lit and no issues with pixels.
8. Preset video options are available in the menu that work well with many different types of media.
9. Wonderful price.
10. Viewing angles and distances are appropriate for anyone's needs.

Cons: 1. No DVI
2. Menu buttons may be difficult to use for some users if used sporadically.
3. Base feels slightly wobbly from vertical pressure.
4. Size may be considered too small for some.
5. Built-in speakers that can provide for a basic audio experience, but most likely won't be appreciated for someone intending to spend many hours using it.
6. Base ring may be considered somewhat obtrusive depending on someone's desk setup.
7. No rear-mounting capability.

Other Thoughts: Over all, it is a wonderful monitor; in fact, this is the best monitor I've ever owned. My previous monitor was a 21" Samsung with a built-in TV tuner and speaker combination and a multitude of video input options. It was convenient to have so many connection options available however the picture was very poor, stand was too large and difficult to assemble, overheated and the speakers were very poor for long term use. This monitor came incredibly cheap, was easy to assemble (literally plug-n-play), looks nice, base doesn't take up too much room, and the adapters provided work well.

Some minor issues I've personally had were mainly the menu buttons and the base ring. For navigating the menu, the buttons are located on the bottom of the frame. Very nice, out of the way and easy to locate, but as for navigating through the menu UI on your screen sometimes it was confusing for me to use right out the gate without any practice. Obviously a non-issue for many people, but might be nice to take into consideration if that is something that might put you off from using the menu continuously.

The base is considerably smaller than my old monitor, however the shape and the "wobbly" feel might be an issue for some people. The frame sits in the middle of the base which can actually stick out farther than many other monitors available, proving to be a little bit more of an issue of reorganizing your workspace depending on your situation. My desk happens to be a little bit smaller so I do sometimes worry about bumping up my keyboard against it for example. The "wobbly" feel comes from any sort of vertical pressure exerted on the top of the monitor. Again, nothing major, but it felt slightly weird to me and may be an issue to only a small group of consumers. Having a cat in the house for example was a little worrisome at first having him walking around the monitor and bumping up against it, but there is no issue from what I can see. Furthermore, horizontal pressure exhibits no change from what I can see and cats (or perhaps other small pets) are more than able to maneuver around the cables in the rear with no difficulty.

Lacking a DVI input with a VGA in its place was a little confusing and might be frustrating for others, but shouldn't be an issue with any of the adapters provided. I personally use the DVI-HDMI adapter and have absolutely no issue with video. Frankly I think the speakers would be better served by removing them from the case and putting in additional input options. My past experience with built-in speakers is rather frustrating. For what they're trying to provide, they don't have as good of sound as many other options and tend to fade out over a long period of time (give or take a little over a year depending on quality).

This is just a great quality monitor that met all of my needs. Games used with stellar results: Arma 3, Dota 2, Skyrim, Payday 2, TF2, Red Orchestra 2, DayZ, Portal and more. I highly recommend this!
