3 out of 5 eggsASUS VW22AT-CSM Black 22" 5ms Widescreen LED Backlight LCD Monitor 250 cd/m2 50,000,000:1 Built-in Speakers

Pros: - Good monitors - a LITTLE bit brighter than I prefer (yes, after tweaking settings some)
- Best used in landscape
- Power saving features work well

Cons: - Disappointed in portrait-oriented performanc -, which is how the two I have are being used. Ideal viewing angle(s) are more than narrow while in portrait

Other Thoughts: Would recommend if being used in more traditional monitor setup.

5 out of 5 eggsJust buy it

Pros: Theyre great, people crying about a dead pixel? Dead pixels go with the territory, it happes with every brand. I have sold around a hundred of these and they are fine. The speakers are fine standard PC speakers. If you are wanting to thump your bass you dont go with built in speakers. If you want high quality sound invest $50 in some speakers for goodness sake. The main reason to get these is the quality, I have only had to RMA 2 out of nearly a hundred of these. Great monitor.

Cons: None to speak of, dead pixels happen.

Other Thoughts: You cant beat these for bang/vs buck. Price is good, warranty is good and quality is good, with bonus built in speakers. Has DVI AND VGA. Acers in this range usually only have one or the other and no speakers.

2 out of 5 eggsASUS 22" Monitor

Pros: The screen looks great and so does the frame but that is about it.

Cons: The build-in-speakers are useless, You can't hear anything out of them on max volume even when closed into a sound proof room. I really expected more out of that but I guess I have to use my headphones or buy some speakers for it. Also the tilt option for this monitor is a pain. You must remove the back stand with a screw driver and then somehow find a thin enough wrench that can loosen the stand bolts. This also doesn't have an HDMI option, or and USB options so you are out of luck in that area as well.

Other Thoughts: Might as well spend money on a 200$ monitor if you are looking for built-in-speakers.

2 out of 5 eggsnot what i expected

Pros: 16:10, dvi, ok picture after messing with video settings.

Cons: dead pixel lower left corner. its Asus, and its 2013! only see it on very dark background. the splenda modes dont work, they're all super dark, and look the same. I kept it in standard mode, and adjusted some settings. maybe its defective, but I dont want to send it back and deal with the rma process.

Manufacturer Response:

Dear Valued Customer,

If you believe the pixel issue is getting worse, please take pictures of your screen and send them to me at and include case#3286826 in the subject line. ASUS Customer Loyalty is here to listen and respond to your concerns and to help you with a positive ASUS experience.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great!

Pros: I found the color quality to be very good and there is plenty of brightness range. The controls provide adequate customization of color tone. It's lighter than the monitor I am replacing so my monitor arms (Ergotron) don't wobble as much when I type, due to less weight = less strain on the monitor arm springs.

I have several other monitors. I like this Asus better than even my Samsungs which I paid a lot more for.

Cons: I had to mess with the color settings a bit to meet my preferences. The built-in presets were not useful to me. But there are enough options to make the custom user setting work for me.

I really wish it had a HDMI input. But this is easily solved with a $5 DVI - HDMI conversion cable. You will need this if using a laptop and plan to use a digital connection.

Other Thoughts: I purchased this monitor to offset some of the effects of aging eyes. The 1920x1080 resolution of most monitors makes the screen too small to read for people like me who spend 12+ hours a day on the computer. I found the 27" monitors to be overwhelmingly bright and cause eyestrain due to basically staring at a lightbulb. So this monitor was a great alternative. It makes the text larger while not being overwhelmingly huge or too bright.

The 16x10 aspect ratio is more usable to me because it allows me to have a larger screen vertically, nearly as much as a 1080p (this one has 1050 tall). I typically don't use the full width of widescreen monitors so it works great for me. I am planning on buying another for my other computer.
