Polk Audio's new UltraFit Sports Headphone Series is a rethinking from the ground up of performance, comfort and durability-the three characteristics serious athletes need most in a pair of headphones. Serious music lovers too will value the UltraFit Series because of its undeniably impressive sonic performance.
The UltraFit 1000 is similar in design to the UltraFit 500 but with the added feature of a 3 button in-line remote control and a microphone, both of which allow you to use your iPod or iPhone. Like the UltraFit 500, the 1000 is designed to sit in the flange of your ear canal and provide a moderate noise suppression. The UltraFit 1000 also comes with a short (14") hassle-free and tangle-free cable for MP3 sleeve and collar connections.
UltraFit Series headphones 1000 come with three cable length options, so you can wear your music device the way that works best for you. A long (41") cable enables you to wear your music player on your waist or pants pocket. The short (14") cable lets you to wear an iPod nano, iPod shuffle or other MP3 players on a t-shirt sleeve. While the headphone to 1st connector is for a shirt collar.
Three Remote Control & Microphone The UltraFit 1000 feature a 3-button Control & microphone so you can use your iPhone, iPod (and iPad) on the fly with in-line controls. Change tracks, volume, initiate play/pause or take a call (iPhone) without touching your player.
Dynamic Balance Polymer Drivers and Ported Enclosure for High Performance Digital sound Dynamic Balance is a design tool that enables the engineers to pinpoint the elements that negatively impact driver performance to carefully control materials, interfaces and geometries. UltraFit Sport Headphones employ dynamic drivers much like those in a full size speaker. They’re just a lot smaller. To meet the predetermined performance parameters, the engineers took the same care designing the drivers, even adding a discrete crossover filter to each driver to naturalize the high frequencies. And the UltraFit Sports Headphones are ported. There is the port (ear piece) you put in your ear. But the big deal is very small channels in the back of the driver enclosure, beneath the Polk logo. These are crucial to tuning the driver’s frequency response peaks. And that means a better sounding pair of headphones.
Ultra Flexible Tangle-free Planar Audio Cable Round cables, always coiling up and twisting, are a constant source of annoyance because they get in the way of your workout. Eventually repetitive twisting means the cable will break or pull out at the end. The UltraFit’s planar design (with oxygen-free wire for better conductivity) completely eliminates coiling, so the headphone cables won’t tangle up during a workout, or when stored away. The planar design also eliminates micro-phonics, the tendency of an electronic device to turn a mechanical vibration into “noise,” which you would hear, in this case, through the headphones.
Moisture Shield No headphone works well in a sweat bath of moisture. So Moisture Shield is added, a filter that provides two benefits. As a thin scrim on UltraFit 1000 driver screen, the filter material resists moisture that could get to the driver; the headphones keep performing through strenuous activity. Moisture Shield also provides an acoustic barrier to help smooth frequency response.
SecureFit Support You’re ready for your workout. You put on your headphones and get to work. The last thing you want is for an earpiece to fall out, instantly breaking your rhythm. SecureFit Support is a flexible ear hook that wraps around your ear, so the earpiece stays in place. With SecureFit Support, you’ll experience a snug yet comfortable fit; put your headphones on and forget about them.
StrainGuard Sports headphones get a lot of abuse. UltraFit Sports Headphones have been designed with this in mind. Strainguard is a protective system that addresses the areas where sports headphones fail most often. A Kevlar core that houses the speaker wire provides extra tensile strength to prevent the wire from being pulled apart at common failure points. The other points of common failure in sports headphones are at transitional points between cable lengths and at connection points. In the UltraFit Series, all transitional connections are computer designed to strengthen the points where they fail most.

Pros: -Superb audio quality (not just by exercise headphone standards...any standards) -Sweat proof -Gym proof -Comfortable -Stays in place no matter how sweaty or active -Works even with Android phone (with limited capabilities) -Great selection of accessories included in a beautiful box (one of the best of all products) -Versatility galore with the added cords and ear tips
Cons: -Requires some trial and error to get best aural effect/ fit -Might not be comfortable for all people
Other Thoughts: Let's get this out of the way first: These headphones require a burn-in period (meaning they must be used for some time to get optimal sound). They also require some fitting with the appropriate ear tip for proper fit and sound. They also require careful assembly (the jacks are pretty tight and require some force to come together with a satisfying click). If you have some patience and perform all these action you will be rewarded with an awesome aural experience. Clear highs and mids, balanced with clean and punchy bass. Compared it to some supra-aural Bose headphones and these came ahead in audio quality (subjective of course). Have used them for many runs and sessions at the gym, and they are fantastic for this purpose. Use them mostly with my HTC One X, but have become my go-to headphones these days using them with my PC as well. Buying a Jabra Street2 BT adapter to give the Polk wireless capabilities while on runs. Waited a long time for intersection of fidelity and durabilit

Tech Level: 5/5
Rating: 2/5$70 with $10 performance
Pros: Very durable. Once it clips on, it will not let go of your ears. It doesn't act like a stethoscope when you are running, as in when the wires get whipped around, the sound doesn't travel through.
Cons: I've heard $15 headphones that sound better than this. The sound is quite "hollow", as in there is a lot of white noise. It sounds as if the artist is standing 10 to 15 feet away from the mic. The instrumentals and voices are going through, however it doesn't seem to saturate the headphones.
I thought it may have been the specific MP3 I was playing, so I used many other songs I had bought from iTunes and it again had the "hollow" sound. I thought it was my device, so I used a different kind, and no improvement to the sound. I even used a blu-ray disc from my laptop and the sound through these headphones gave it no justice.
These headphones are also horrible for a gym. My local gym is only moderately noisy and even then, I had a hard time listening to my music over the hum of nearby treadmills and thuds of the feet running on them. In fact, I could hear the gym's music too.
Other Thoughts: These headphones are not worth $70. You can buy a pair of Phillips for $15 that will perform much better than this and at the same time, will clip on to your ear without falling. I don't understand where the $70 price tag came from. The 500 model is the same exact thing as this 1000, but the 1000 just has a mic. The mic costs an additional $20? And I'm assuming in order to get a good music experience, one would have to buy the $100 model.
I bought these from Polk Audio with high expectations. All my speakers in my home theater system are from Polk and I have nothing but praise for them in that area, however these headphones have been a disappointment. It consists of slightly modified technology, such as the ear clip, that adds no benefit, and is priced at $70. Those $10 clip-on headphones from sony will also stay on, while giving you a better music experience.
Save your money and look elsewhere for headphones.
