Detachable cable allows for cord-free operation when audio is not desired.
  • newegg Comfortable Fit Contour shaped earcups easily fit over the ears and incorporate generously cushioned padding for long-wearing comfort.

5 out of 5 eggsNice

Pros: Watching movies on airplanes used to be painful. These things cut out enough of the background noise that I can hear the movie with the volume set at a reasonable level. They also work well with an MP3 player on crowded buses, and such.

Cons: I haven't found any negatives.

Other Thoughts: I haven't used any other noise cancelling headphones, so I don't know how these compare, but I am happy with their performance.

3 out of 5 eggsFalling apart for no apparent reason.

Pros: Great sound quality and noise cancelling, comfortable until they started breaking.

Cons: Apparently super fragile, started falling apart after the first 3 months of ownership. I haven't taken them anywhere or done anything to them other than put them on my head. I use them often, but that's no excuse. The left side of the headphones is being held together with scotch tape. I would use super-glue but I don't have any. The part of the earphone-cushion that keeps the foam inside of the earphones tore off ages ago, and now the foam moves around pretty freely in there. The left side of the headphones can no-longer lock in place since the plastic that allows it to do so chipped off. The tape keeps the phones from separating completely. And just now, after putting these things on my desk to go and take a shower, I found another piece of it broken off in my chair, from the left side, of course. It's part of what connects the earphone to the rest of the device. I have large pieces of these headphones in front of me. I expect it'll separate completely pretty soon.

Other Thoughts: Maybe mine were just defective... At least they still sound great.

3 out of 5 eggsHeartbroken

Pros: fantastic headphones
-comfortable
-dosnt cancel noise, but muffles it very well, esspecialy low frequencys like fans/hums

I live in a dorm and these headphones help me get in the zone when studying even though everyone is loud around me. Definatly can help you focus when in an noisey environment

Cons: Just like the last post, i noticed stress cracks along the plastic after 4 months. There is no way in hell it came from abusing the headphones. I use them every day, it has to be from stress of ussage.

Other Thoughts: pretty disapointed that i started to notice cracks, but happy i noticed it before the plastic chiped, or worse.

5 eggs if they didnt form stress cracks. I hope the warrenty will cover this, but i have a feeling it wont : (

1 out of 5 eggsSad Times

Pros: Noise Canceling is amazing. I have friends with the comparable Bose model and have used their headphones and don't really notice much of a difference in high or low tones. Unless you know exactly what you're listening for, I wouldn't worry about losing out on any sound quality with these.

Cons: So I previously had a pair of noise canceling headphones of another brand I bought on another site. Come to find out, they had a manufacturing defect that caused the plastic on the headband to crack with use over time (reason they were on sale). I disappointed and took over a year to make that investment again. This time I made sure to check the product for durability before purchase and chose the Audio Technica over Bose because everyone said they were far more durable. I dropped $150 and was happy for about 3 months. Imagine my disappointment when I took them out of their case to put them on and noticed a chip of plastic missing. The cracks that have propagated in the stress areas were so small I didn't see them until a chunk was missing. I am utterly disappointed. I babied these things like you wouldn't believe. I used them frequently, but always carried them in their case and always put them carefully. I'm in Materials Engineering and I had some of my colleagues take a look and

Other Thoughts: Cons Cont:

they agreed that the cracks were in stress zones and formed due to fatigue from frequent use.

All I want is some headphones that won't break after 3 months. I went with these because they were supposed to be sturdy. I was completely happy with them up to this point. I would even settle for getting a replacement pair, but now I've got to pay for shipping and worry about the company deciding they won't cover the product (They haven't said this yet, but it's always a fear).

I'm hoping everything goes smoothly so I can edit this post with the 5 eggs I originally thought the product deserved.

It's not quite a con, but if you have a wireless router near where you will be using these, they will likely interfere with the headphones and cause a clicking sound similar to when you put a cellphone near speakers. Easy fix is to just find a different spot for your router.

5 out of 5 eggsPuts that other brand to shame!

Pros: I've owned this pair of headphones for about three years now. I bought them when I started flying a lot on business and I kept seeing the Bose headphone demos in airports. I tried the Bose and was impressed enough to want a pair, but couldn't get past the massive price tag. So I did some quick research and the folks at Head-Fi.org (professional headphone wearers: DJs, pilots, and extreme audiophiles) were talking about the potential of these AudioTechnicas. Combine that with an incredible Newegg sale, and I now own the best noise cancelling headphones out there. Since purchase, I've talked about how great they are to my coworkers. I even let coworkers trade headphones for a day, and I can assure you that compared to the big name competitor's headphones, these:
*have better noise cancelling
*have better sound reproduction
*have the ability to listen to music without the noise cancelling/amplification (in case your battery dies)

Cons: These headphones favor the lower frequencies a bit, but if you like bass (who doesn't?) you'll not mind at all.

Other Thoughts: Sound reproduction is excellent. Unlike some other noise cancelling headphones, there is none of the feeling like you're listening to music inside a tin can.

4 out of 5 eggsRelatively good

Pros: Relatively cheap, comfortable, the audio quality is good.

Cons: About 6 months into ownership, the earpads started coming apart at the seams, and I had to sew them back together to keep the foam from falling out. The active noise cancelling feature gives me a headache, but that's probably an issue with me and not the headphones.

Other Thoughts: I like these quite a bit. They are fairly rugged, with the exception of the earpads, provide good passive noise reduction.

5 out of 5 eggsSimilar results to other reviewers

Pros: Relatively cheap noise cancelling option.
Fit relatively well.
Noise cancelling works, quite well.
Cable comes apart from the headphones, so if you snag it, the cable just pops out, instead of ripping from an integrated end.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: As others have said, they are great for noise cancelling headphones in this price range. Their audio quality is quite good for your average user. There is a slight hollow/lack of bass when the noise cancelling is on, just something to be aware of.

The noise cancelling does amplify the sound as others have noted... this isn't really good or bad, but doesn't happen with other sony noise cancelling headphones i use at work... so just an oddity.

5 out of 5 eggsBest cost/performance ratio

Pros: These are solid and comfy. Build quality feels better than Bose.

Good sound (I had to the EQ on my laptop a bit, but the sound is great)
Noise cancelling is good
Included battery and accessories

Side NOTE:

For some reason when Noise Cancelling is ON the audio sound gets amplified, as well as having outside noise cancelled. I'm not sure if this is normal to all headphones, just wanted to point that out here.

For the money, these feel and sound like a good quality headphone.

Cons: When noise cancelling is ON you lose a little bass

5 out of 5 eggsSturdy and Reliable

Pros: I received these headphones as a birthday present from my parents, purchased through Circuit City (when it was still in business) so that tells you I've had them for a while, maybe 3 years at this point. I have always taken good care of them, and kept them in the storage case they came with (which has been wonderful and protects them perfectly.) I have never had a single problem with these headphones. They have a great range for adjustment, and work well on my rather large head :P the clarity is top notch, and with minor adjustments through my PC equalizer, I get great highs, mids, and lows, even on my iPod. I really like how you can use them without a battery as well, and they still sound great for when I can't find a spare AAA. The detachable cable is also convenient for when I need a 3.5mm cable for other devices, and makes it easy to replace if necessary, though I still have the original which has no problems whatsoever.

Cons: None for me, I have been incredibly happy with these headphones.

4 out of 5 eggsBest in Class

Pros: For the price you're not going to find better noise-canceling headphones. I work in a noisy environment and I would agree with the manufacturing that it kills 85-90% of background low-frequency sounds. It will not work on voice cancellation but that none of them really do. Battery life is great. Build quality is decent, not amazing. Comfortable on me, no pinching, but experience may vary from person to person.

Cons: Bass is the weak spot of these headphones. These headphones are not low profile so be prepared to be noticed. Smaller than say Sennheiser noise-canceling cans but larger than Bose QC-15. If I wear these headphones for more than an hour they make my ears sweat but could just be me.

Other Thoughts: Like with all noise-canceling headphones you are balancing sound quality with utility. If you don't need noise-canceling then in the same price range you'll find better sounding cans. However, if you don't want to spend the cash on the Bose QC-15 or Sennheiser CX450 then these are a good compromise.
