4 out of 5 eggsStill like Nikon

Pros: High pixel count, great video quality, good battery life even with external gps, works well with inexpensive battery grip if using the live view more. can zoom live view to focus video, face detection focus mode works well for video. Love the controls, that are similar to d300 for me, which I was looking to upgrade. Ton's of features. very rugged. I like that it can take my older "d" lenses that lack motors. the Eye-Fi pro card works well with it and is cheap enough. custom menu!

Cons: Very heavy. especially to carry all day, specially with grip. Size can be intimidating to your subjects but they get used to it. Very difficult to focus hand-held, sharp/without blur compared to D300 due to higher pixels and heaviness of camera and it's more apparent when reviewing later than on camera. I think I would have liked to have the D810 60fps 1080p mode.

Other Thoughts: Could be too much camera for me, but didn't have much choice at time. I do think I like the old-school controls, compared to the newer d750 or 7000. Lots of people seem to be jumping ship to mirrorless makers, for weight and size, but I like the proven Nikon dslr lenses despite having to change them (I seem to favor primes). I bought some cheaper 128gb 1066 komputerbay flash that works great with it, even though its not on the compatiblity list. Transfer software works better with camera (not as fast though), than with usb 3.0 sd card reader on certain laptop/cpus' ... be sure to verify your NEF's opening full view before deleting from card, you may never see error with readers/laptop speed/bitlocker, etc... with all the menus and options, the custom menu is your friend!

5 out of 5 eggsBuy this camera if you can.

Pros: Brilliant camera. Resolution will no longer be an issue. Test the pixel noise at high ISO in full sunlight; there really isn't anything there to speak of. Auto focus is always better than I can do manually. Auto color balance has always been correct. Battery life has been great.

Cons: Resolution is so sharp that the apparent depth of field has shallowed so much that nearly all normal photos need to be taken at f16 or higher. It's made trash out of my D300s. Grease in shutter forced me to get a pro cleaning when I was sloppy cleaning the sensor myself. With a great lens, I have no excuses for poor photos other than myself!

Other Thoughts: Image size should not be an issue with modern memory cards and desktops.

5 out of 5 eggsFeels like a Precision Instrument vs Grown up Toy

Pros: Build Quality, Image Quality, Uncompressed HDMI-out video, dual card slots, battery life, Accurate focus tracking, wide range of customization options, no shallow DOF loss due to FX sensor.

Cons: both of the dual card slots could be SD even though CF has higher potential throughput (not many CF cards have higher throughput than SD currently and CF is alot more expensive), slower burst rate than competing models (although the product is not positioned towards sports photographers), heavy, huge images (slow to upload onto traditional HDD RAID array despite CF card having 120 MB/s read), need expensive flash memory to take full advantage of features, only one Fn button, built in flash feels a bit flimsy for a professional model.

Other Thoughts: bought this during a sale for about 2250 which was a steal for this new model (upgrade from old D200 DX model). Had some older high quality FX lenses which work great with this camera (28-70mm 2.8, 70-200mm VR, 50mm 1.4D). I would carry it wherever I go but with the 28-70mm, its weighs about 5 LBs.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat camera

Pros: Excellent camera. Lots of features. This is a very nice camera for studio and architecture shots. I was really impressed with how many pictures i thought were garbage at first, but I was able to recover (shooting in raw) and actually made them look good to really good.

Cons: Heavy, loud shutter. The other down side is mostly due to high resolution; working with large raw files is rather intensive and quite noticible (iMac, Core i7/16GB).

Other Thoughts: Overall I am happy with it, this being my first full frame camera.
