5 out of 5 eggsAwesome camera for the price

Pros: Still fairly small compared to a full-frame camera so it's easier to take it with you. Durable, tons of available lenses, great low light, decent video, fast, great quality shots. Has up to 30 second automatic shutter speed, and a bulb mode to take super-long exposures if you're into star trails.

Cons: You must manually focus during video recording. Uses a crop sensor (a pro and a con depending on your needs.) Not as easy to learn to use as an entry-level camera, because it gives you the feature set of a professional level camera on the entry-level 1.6x crop sensor.

Other Thoughts: I use this with a Sigma 50mm prime to shoot portraits, with the Canon 10-22mm wide angle to shoot landscapes and starscapes, with a 70-200L to shoot sporting events and with a 24-105L for macro and walk-around shots. The 24-105L is my least favorite. Couple this camera with pro level glass and you'll save thousands and get your career started.

3 out of 5 eggsThe perfect camera, on paper...

Pros: Great ergonomics and a very well designed arrangement or functions on the body.
Wonderfully large, 100% coverage viewfinder, the BEST viewfinder I have ever looked through.
I loved having all those auto focus points.
1.6X crop factor found on the APS-C sized sensor isn't a plus to some users, but it adds to the strength of this camera for the sports photographer where you could often use a little extra focal length.
Pictures are VERY sharp with great contrast when paired with decent lenses.
Built in flash triggering system.
Weather sealed magnesium body - very durable while remaining fairly light in weight.

Cons: Noise is this camera's biggest fault. Honestly this camera produces more noise than I thought possible. I found tons of luminance noise populating my images of birds shot at the lake with ISO 100 on a clear blue sky. After noticing this I payed closer attention to my images and became very disappointed with the camera at all ISO settings. Shooting a burlesque event in a darkly lit club with my fastest lenses produced unbelievable amounts of chroma noise. Chroma noise is to be expected in situations like this, but this camera was on a whole other level. The noise made people's faces look like a freckly red and green mess. Processing some of the noise out forced me to take a hit on sharpness and I wound up images I just didn't enjoy looking at. I wound up actually taking my old EOS 400D to the next event in the 7Ds place because of this. The 400D had softer images of course being a 10.1 MP camera, but finally the noise was under control.

Other Thoughts: I initially bought this camera because it seemed like a good compromise to the 5D mkII and its high price. My thinking was that even though the 7D doesn't have a full frame sensor or the awesome noise processing capabilities of the 5D, you seemed to get alot more through the better ergonomics, faster burst speeds, wireless flash triggering, 19 AF points which seems like 10 more than the 5D, (but in actuality the 5D has 9 viewfinder visible AF points and 6 additional invisible assist points so there is not such a large gap here.)
In the end the picture quality of the 7D really, really disappointed me. After talking with two colleagues of mine who shoot with 7Ds, I found that they too were disappointed with the image quality in all shooting situations. I decided to return the camera and purchased the 5D mk II and have never been happier. It is for these reasons I cannot honestly recommend this camera to another person without telling them about what I experienced.

5 out of 5 eggsThe Fabulous 7D

Pros: The very best Canon for bird photography due to quality, resolution and the 1.6 lens multiplier. The video is great, not quite the same quality as stills, but close enough to look very good in a slideshow next to the stills. The case has survived nearly two years of very hard use, including on beaches, boats, rain ... sheltered as much as possible, but strill used under these conditions. Shooting eight frames per second at 1/2000 sec is great for capturing birds in flight or sports events.

Cons: The video does not focus after recording is started.

3 out of 5 eggsNoise?

Pros: Not yet. Will edit this after using the camera a few times.

Cons: Not yet Will edit this after using the camera a few times.

Other Thoughts: Quick question. Just received my camera from Newegg. Haven't had time to use it yet since I'm in the office and my lenses are at home. When I took the camera out of the box it feels solid. But when I shake it, it sounds like there is something lose in there. Is that normal? And no, it is not the mirror. Sounds smaller. Like a small screw or small piece of plastic or something.

1 out of 5 eggsI loved this camera too bad it is already broken

Pros: Great Autofocus System. This was y favorite camera but until it broke. Everyone 7D Canon has made is defective. If yours has not broke it will! Canon should issue a recall.

Cons: Every 7D has a factory defect. Eventually, the camera will stop communicating with any original camera battery. You will have to ship it to Canon and they will charge your $210 to fix it. Google "Canon 7D will not communicate with battery" and you will see that this is a widespread problem. I have been using Canon camera for 30 year but now considering switching to Nikon.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Camera

Pros: I have only had this camera a week and I can tell already that this is a huge step up from my old Canon XTI. The colors pop even in low light at high speed shooting my son playing football. The cost is well worth the upgrade.

Cons: None...

Other Thoughts: A have not used the HD video capability much yet but it is pretty cool that I can use my zoom lens to get some great video shots.

5 out of 5 eggsFabulous

Pros: Excellent AF, brilliant image quality and also comes with an amazing set of features including fast continuous drive, HD video (1080:30p), great battery life and a size and weight that makes great for bird and wildlife photography or a day at the beach. The 100% field of view in the view finder is also a very noteworthy pro.

Cons: You'll have so much fun with this camera that you'll never want to put it down to enjoy the scenery.

Other Thoughts: This is an excellent camera, situated right between most professional cameras and the amateur models. While it does have two automatic shooting modes that will let most any person get some good photos regardless of skill, the real benefits of this camera come to those with the patience to learn a little more about light and optics, etc. Finally, one's experience with a particular camera is also heavily tied to the quality of lens used.

5 out of 5 eggsGet it for the AF

Pros: I do not own this camera, but as an amateur who just bought the t2i and now am selling it to upgrade to this camera, I have some good advice. Pictures from great lenses only look great when they are in focus. While it is possible to achieve that focus with the t2i, it can be hit and miss. I often find myself using the more accurate center point and recomposing. That's not to say that I haven't gotten some crisp, brilliant pictures out of it. The problem is that I've missed an unacceptable number of good photos.

Cons: Not full frame.

Other Thoughts: If you are a competent amateur looking at the range of 18MP Canons, buy this one for the AF unless your only subject matter is still and allows you to take your time to shoot.

5 out of 5 eggsCanon Quality at its Best

Pros: Solid Build, 18mp, Great low light performance, 8fps

Cons: Price.. But you truly get what you pay for here

Other Thoughts: Was looking to upgrade my Rebel XSI and WOW !! what an upgrade. Plenty of settings to dial in exactly what you need and excellent low light performance. Worked great in my first basketball shoot. ISO performance is very good
