The Fujifilm FinePix S6800 Digital Camera features a 16.2M BSI-CMOS sensor to produce high quality imagery with notable low-light sensitivity. A Fujinon 30x optical zoom lens expands the range of expressive possibilities. You can enjoy the high speed performance, such as fast continuous shooting speed of 8.0fps at full resolution (max. 10 frames) and an auto focusing speed of 0.3 seconds. SR AUTO (Automatic Scene Recognition) can automatically determine the scene type you are working in, and choose from one of six pre-determined sets of exposure profiles to optimize your images. Image composition and playback is possible on the rear 3.0" 460k-dot LCD monitor.

5 out of 5 eggsMy impressions of the Fuji S6800

Pros: This review is after using the camera for 5 days and taking 500 pictures and 5 videos with it. The camera does come with a very basic user manual but I wanted to get all the benefits so I printed off the pdf manual which is on the accompanied CD. In order to see just how good or bad this new Fuji camera was I put it through the ringer every day. I used every setting and made comparison shots in full sunshine, shade, low light, motion and anything else I could throw at it. I was coming from a pro camera with a viewfinder so the LCD screen on the back took an hour or so to get the hang of. After shooting 100 photos of every conceivable type each day I would download them to my computer in the evening.
At the end of 5 days I can honestly say this is an amazing camera in every way. The pictures it takes are beyond what I was expecting. The digital camera I have been shooting with for the last 10 years took good pictures but not as good as the Fuji S6800. Out of the 500 pictures taken, only 4 were blurry shots. Those blurry shots were taken the first hour of shooting as I was busy trying out all the different settings. With this camera you can take pictures in about any setting imaginable and expect to get great results. I am not a professional photog by any means, so if I can do it, any adult should be able to do it. Most of the settings are accomplished by using the "Selector" dial. Quite easy, really.
I was not expecting much when I took my first video on day five. The camera has a dedicated video button. You can be shooting a video and take a still shot, all at the same time. Just press the shutter while the video is recording. Again, I was blown away by the quality of the 15 minute video. There was absolutely no hint of jerking or blurriness. It was smooth as silk without using a tripod. I shot a group of horses who at one point were running toward me from 100 yards away. I have a $500.00 dedicated video camera that does not take videos as good as this S6800. I was surprised that the audio sounded so good. I was using an 8 GB, Class 4 SD memory card each day for all tests. I never got even close to filling it up. The camera came with 4 alky batteries which lasted for about 350 pictures. I then popped in a set of rechargeable NiMh batteries on day four. I expect to have even better results with the NiMh batteries. My original Nikon digital camera cost $1200 from Newegg ten years ago and this new Fuji S6800 cost $226.00. The quality of the pictures far exceeds what I was getting from the old Nikon in every way. Another benefit is the learning curve for the Fuji is much, much less than the Nikon. The Fuji has numerous scene selectors which I found to be an asset. If you are so inclined, you can even custom adjust the speed and aperture of this camera. This camera really works for you with very little effort. It won't make phone calls home for you and you can't surf the internet with it, but it does take exceptional pictures.

Cons: The latch for the battery chamber gave me a few problems the first couple of times I changed batteries. It is kind of quirky until you get the hang of it.

Other Thoughts: All in all, I am very pleased with the S6800 and would highly recommend it to anyone who expects great pictures and videos without spending a ton of money.
Since it is a brand new camera from Fuji, it has no track record yet from users.
