When you need to put some more light on the subject, reach for Canon’s 430EX II. As the successor to the hugely successful Canon 430EX, the 430EX II offers a new level of versatility and capability at an affordable price. This capable unit is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras and Power Shot G Series.

The 430EX II delivers approximately 20% faster recycling time, compared to the 430EX, while keeping the same compact size. The LCD’s focal length display can indicate 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, 50mm, 70mm, 80mm, and 105mm zoom positions.

With a powerful guide number of 141/43 (ISO 100, feet/meters), the 430EX II is able to easily fill the area with sufficient light for some really impressive shots. The flash’s compatibility with Canon's wireless E-TTL makes it an affordable slave unit as well.

  • newegg E-TTL II Auto Flash The Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash is powered by Canon’s most advanced E-TTL II (Second Generation Evaluative Through-The-Lens) auto flash technology. When working with compatible Canon cameras, the Speedlite 430EX delivers an automatic pre-flash for the camera to calculate the ambient light level, subject position and to determine the best flash exposure for natural-looking and balanced photos.
  • newegg Long Effective Distance The Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash features an awesome 43 guide number, which means the flash can illuminate an object up to 43 meters away at ISO 100, so you can flash photograph objects that is out of reach.
  • newegg Tilt and Swivel Head The Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash features an adjustable head that tilts 90° upwards and swivels 90° to the right and 180° to the left to flexibly employ the bounce flash technique for more natural, shadowless and red-eye free shoots.
  • newegg Fast 0.1-second Power-up Featuring an advanced new circuitry, the Canon Speedlite 430EX II Flash recharges silently in only 0.1 to 3 seconds so you can take multiple pictures faster without waiting for the flash to recharge between shots.
  • newegg Slave Unit Function With support for Canon’s wireless E-TTL technology, the Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash serves as an affordable “slave unit” for added studio lighting.
  • newegg Compatible with Canon EOS and PowerShot Cameras The Canon Speedlite 430EX II flash is compatible with all Canon EOS cameras and Canon PowerShot G series digital cameras.

1 out of 5 eggsvery frustrated

Pros: It shoots out light....

Cons: Did not find it easy to use, I found using the next higher 580 flash worked much better.

Other Thoughts: Used it first time for a wedding recycling slow, and ate through 2 packs of batteries in 1 hr. I use to use Nikon and the Sb 600 was awesome

4 out of 5 eggsWorks well

Pros: Seems to work well, but I am no photographer.

Cons: Again, I am no photographer, but I wish this one had the white modeling light like the cheaper 320.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Flash

Pros: Great Flash unit, and with my Canon D60 it has wireless sync built in. I was able to use the unit off camera.

Cons: None, other then extra weight.

Other Thoughts: Was able to take 6 pix in a row with the flash still flashing.

5 out of 5 eggsNicely integrated with the Canon 60D

Pros: Put this on a compatible Canon camera and it does much of the work for you.

Cons: It works and does what it says it would. Of course I wish that it worked the way the Canon Speedlite 580x EX II for about one tenth the price (or better yet, FREE) but then that would make me a liberal - which I am not.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent Flash

Pros: Noiseless and fast recharge, great build quality and range. One of the best feature is that in low light it will automatically emit a focus-assist beam. That will make Focusing in low light fast and accurate. It can be in total darkness and still be able to focus (within reasonable distance like a room). Battery life is excellent. I also like the quick secure/release button instead of the old style knob that you had to twist around many times.

Cons: Price, but i knew this before purchase :(

Other Thoughts: This a great flash. I borrowed a 3rd party flash first, than decided not to waste any money on equipment that will not keep up, nor last long, so i went with Canon. This seems to be able to keep up and give me constant results.
I'd recommend a lightsphere diffuser with this. It gives great results!!!

5 out of 5 eggsgreat device

Pros: Very simple to use product. Great quality and can't beat the price. Get everything you need with this. Of course it's not the 580 but it has yet to let me down. Speed is great, accurate lighting, no complaints. Definately a must for portraits and indoors photos (stock popup flash does so little in comparison).

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: Overall this is a nice balance between power and size (including weight). Would recommend this product to any photography enthusiast. Worth the canon premium.

5 out of 5 eggsSuperb Flash Attachment

Pros: Gentle flash, Full illumination, Easy to use, Fast recharge, Interfaces perfectly with EOS

Cons: Very wide angle coverage

Other Thoughts: I began in the flash bulb era, then graduated to semi-auto electronic flash. The Speedlite 430 EX II is so good that all I could do when I saw the results was smile.
