3 out of 5 eggsSpeed advertised is a lie

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: - Easy to install : plug and play
- Small, nice form factor

Cons: - Maximum speed of 100Mbit (due to 100Mb ethernet ports)

Other Thoughts: Although the product is called a "500Mbps powerline network adapter", it is featuring 100Mbps ethernet ports. This mean the maximum theoretical speed achievable would be 100Mbit, so pratically it will be way less than that.
Out of that, the device works quite well, very easy to install, but don't expect it to get more than 50-60Mbit out of it.

2 out of 5 eggsAcceptable, but not entirely stable

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Inexpensive (at least when I got them)
Packets often arrive at the remote destination

Cons: Disconnects, often doesn't reach rated speed.

Other Thoughts: I had a set of TP-Link 200Mbps powerline adapters that worked like a charm. Truly plug and play. These have disconnected three times in the two months I've used them, and don't reconnect on their own. I have to go press the button on them to reset them.
They get two eggs for mostly working most of the time, but that's being extremely generous.

3 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: -Easy to set up
-Better speeds than wireless
-Very quick and easy RMA process

Cons: -One of my two units died after only two months of use

Other Thoughts: Setting the RMA up for my device was VERY quick and easy. Hold time was short, they only asked one troubleshoot question, verified my info and sent the new unit. The shipping for sending the broken unit back, though, cost almost as much as buying a new unit.

4 out of 5 eggsDecent power line networking

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Create power line network without much effort.
Simple configuration.

Cons: Barely more speed then a wireless network.

Other Thoughts: I got these to extend my network without having to pull cat5 cables and have it somewhat more reliable then a wireless since there is a lot of interference where I live. To my surprise I plugged them in and they started working directly with the D-Link adapters I already had, teaches me right not to research how the security of these adapters works firs.

5 out of 5 eggs

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Simple....Plugged one in, hooked it to router. Plugged other one in hooked to the computer and it worked. Maxes out my cable internet. No configuring.....really a brainless operation. I had a power glitch one night so I unplugged both of them and it started working again. Great product

Cons: none

5 out of 5 eggsWorks

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Works as expected for the price and it was very easy to pair adapters.

Overall very good working adapter. Prices is also quite a good one.

Cons: Heats up and drops speed.

Other Thoughts: There is a remedy to heat problem. And I suspect that many people would have similar problem due to adapter being very sensitive to temperature or other devices on same power socket.

And the remedy is quite simple: let all that heat escape properly. That means if you have another device on same socket, usually a power supply for your router/modem, use extension cord to avoid blocking all the heat near this adapter and you will not loose any link or speeds.

I also got another pair of adapter from Zyxel that cost me more than twice the price I paid for these adapters. They have SAME issues. And both work fine when not heated up.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking!!

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Amazing quality, working fine on wires where my old Netgear 85mb adapter give very low signal with constant problems. Have no issues with this product.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: No sense to pay more for "Brand Name" product.

2 out of 5 eggs24 hours to break these

This review is from: Actiontec PWR511K01 500Mbps Powerline Network Adapter Kit Up to 500Mbps

Pros: Small, pairing was easier than other power lines

Cons: Mine buckled under the load after 24 hours

Other Thoughts: Maybe I just got a bad batch, but I originally got these to replace the 200Mbps adapters I had to get more bandwidth. Well they worked at first. I did see higher speeds (in reality about 50-60 Mbps which I think is basically what to expect from "500 Mbps" power line adapters.) but after 24 hours I started getting network issues. I had to unplug one of them and plug it back in. That would get about another hour's worth of functioning. They were pretty hot, and i probably would have questioned my power lines except that I had 200Mbps adapters working for a LONG time in the same outlets. I've since replaced these with other 500Mbps ones that are also working just fine. My guess is mine overheated for some reason and would lose connection. Maybe because they are so small? No idea, but I sent them back and got Emidaxs and they are working great for a few weeks now.
