5 out of 5 eggsNice Cheap Switch

Pros: I've always had respect for Netgear's networking technology.

Even though these are only 10/100, they're great switches. Every Netgear Prosafe I've bought has been "plug and forget".

Using 1 to extend my network to an office in my house where the most bandwidth consumption expected is my 8Mbit Internet connection.

Cons: Would not recommend using these switches on a network where streaming media is heavy, because they are only 10/100.

Other Thoughts: Great way to cut corners on a small home\business network without compromising reliability (only speed).

5 out of 5 eggsObsolete Technology

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Fast Ethernet has been obsolete since 2003 at least.

Other Thoughts: Who buys this stuff? This is the 2nd decade of the 21st Century. Even my 2003 vintage MSI mobos have Gigabit Ethernet ports, and even notebook hard drives can deliver faster data transfer speeds than a 100base-T link can handle. It astounds me that manufacturers still make obsolete stuff like this, but then again, it took 25 years to finally kill off the floppy disk. Ha!

5 out of 5 eggsBest 8 Port Ever!

Pros: Best 8 port unmanaged switch ever created for the benefit of mankind. I replace old and fairly new Lxxxxxs switches on regular basis with these. The Prosafe product line runs circles around anything out there, PERIOD.

Cons: NONE!

5 out of 5 eggsBest 10/100 switch for personal/small bus

Pros: You can't beat Netgear switches, especially the metal case that sets them apart from the all plastic units in the same price range. Works flawlessly. Obviously, no set up is required for such a small, strictly layer 2 device.

Cons: None.

2 out of 5 eggsbeware: 10/100 only

Pros: great 1995 technology

Cons: 1995 technology

Other Thoughts: no reason to buy a 10/100 switch unless you can't imagine connecting two computers and having them communicate quickly. 10/100 is barely fast enough for a modern cable modem.

5 out of 5 eggsSimple - Simple - Simple

Pros: Well made with a durable enclosure and extremely simple to employ in a small office environment. I installed this device in an office with 2 printers, a wireless network and 5 independent computers. I simply removed it from the box, connected the Ethernet cat 5e cable from the back of the wireless router to the number 1 port on the switch, connected the printers to the original router, and the office computers to the switch. I plugged in the power and BAM!!!! - everything worked. What more could a simple IT guy ask for?

Cons: Are you kidding?

Other Thoughts: I highly recommend this device for small office networks. Setup is super fast and the device senses what's going on with each connection. No patch/crossover cables, no assigning IP addresses, just plug and play!!! If you can imaging a power strip for your network, you just use the router as the power source and connect it to the switch. Then plug everything in and it works. Don't hesitate - buy this very reasonably priced switch today.
