5 out of 5 eggsPerfect for small networks

Pros: Price is great. Warranty is outstanding. Does what its supposed to without whining or needing constant reboots.

Cons: Nothing. Purchased at least 40 of these over the past few years and never had an issue.....

Other Thoughts: .....except when a client of mine was struck by lightning. But Netgear quickly came to the rescue and shipped a new unit out overnight. Previously, I had been a DLink fanboi for all small business networking products. However, Netgear won me over in the warranty department when their lifetime warranty process took a 15 minute phone call to complete with 2 days for shipping of a new unit. Dlink had declined many of my clients' warranty claims for crazy reasons like a scratch on the case or "mishandling". Netgear took my call quickly, issued the RMA quickly and shipped the replacement Next Day Air. With Dlink it took 2+ weeks to receive a very, very subpar refurbished replacement usually missing the ears. Netgear sends a new unit, sealed and in the box. Can't afford Cisco? 5 out of 5 eggsEx-Dlink user

Pros: I first started using Netgear switches because a customer asked me to install one to match his other switch. When 1 went out, I worked with Netgear TS and the problem was handled quickly and without incident.

I have installed this particular switch at schools, offices, SMB's and even high end homes. The only reason I have had to come back is because of a huge lightning strike (bad ground).

Yup, thats pretty much it. This switch sits in a closet, moves your information around and might need a reboot every few years.
No, its not flashy or have a gob of extra features you won't use but it gets the job done and is always on.

In fact I'm back here today to purchase another!

Cons: Honestly, I had to think about this one:
1) after several years, sometimes the fans can get alittle loud and replacing the fans voids the warranty. It would be nice to have user replaceable fans (yes, fans are good).
2) It won't cook you breakfast????

Really, after installing probably close to 50 of these switches I have one con.

Yes, it is that good!

Other Thoughts: If you want a switch that you can install and forget about, this is your switch.
If you want a switch with a real lifetime warranty where the company actually stands behind their products without complaint, this is your switch.

If you want to have to sit on the freekin' phone for hours with an idiot reading off a script only to be turned down for a warranty repair because "it must have been hit by lightning and we don't cover that", this isn't the switch for you. Go buy a Dlink!

5 out of 5 eggsAwesome product

Pros: I bought this product at a goodwill for $5.00. BUT before I bought it, I plugged it into there wall to see if it will even light up giving me a 50/50% on it working. it didnt work. BUT the fan on the side was spinning, I could also smell a kinda burnt smell from it. I was like oh well The money is going for a good charity for familys and disabled people. So I bought it knowing it was broken, I then took it home to double check to see if it was broken. It was. Nothing still lit up and no connections came in out out of it. SO for the fun of it, I called NETGEAR I was asked how long have I had the product.(it was a few mins but I didnt know the exact time)I said Im not sure, then I was asked where did I get the product. I did a as you can say a(nono)and said I cant remember. the guy said that was ok that those questions dont really matter since it has a lifetime replacement warranty. I said alright. So he asked for my info, so I gave it to him and then he asked for the SN, I gave it to him as well. He said it wasnt registered. So I got it registered and I was told the 3 replacement methods so I did the $19.90 shipping/replacement method, So in about two days I got a new one, same exact model. But it was a bit different,as in It dont have the fan on the side which dont bug me at all I tested the new one out and it works. So I sent the First one I bought back and I have my replacement. So total and all was about $25 That I had spent on the purchase of this unit! This switch was bought for good needs at helping out family members in need and its also a something that Im using for the good for when I hook up pc's in need of help. Im not a business. But I am out of ports on my router and this unit like I said is a good help for me and helping others Im not going to buy something like this and then put it online for a profit. I find that wrong to do with buying products from place's like this. It also helps people thats like me that dont have a lot of money,(Im disabled myself I got back problems and have rods in it and I have epilepsy)I go to peoples places and help them with there pc's and fix them up and charge very low prices for helping them. The most that Ive gotten for helping someone was $100. Ive asked are you sure you want to give me that much? I was told yes you deserved it for what you done for me and the help. So as Ive stated This is a AWESOME product! I know that I wont be using NO more than three ports if that But it makes me happy to have something like this thats awesome and that my money for purchasing of this product is going to a good cause charity. Also the guy that works there like it when I was looking at it and he knew what it was, He told me that he hopes it works I told him I do too. So I went there a the day after I had got the replacement product and he was there, so I talked to him about the switch I told him the original pricing of it and what it's listing for now. He said wow you made a awesome profit on that!

Cons: The only con's I hated was not telling the place I bought this product or how long I've had it

Other Thoughts: I would also like to state that I'm sorry if you guy's have a hard time reading this, I had to take out a lot of punctuation. I also want to mention I go to places like this a lot. I've recently replace a bit of cooking ware that I've had that's been broken or warped or didn't cook right.

3 out of 5 eggsAwesome while the last

Pros: These little devices seem to work amazingly for about 14 months. Replaced three units over the last four years, all just after running out of warranty period. Great while they last.

Cons: Only seem to last 14-16 months on average.

5 out of 5 eggsJGS524 Switch

Pros: Great Switch, we have had one on our business network for 4+ years with no problems. It just works. I'm getting ready to buy my second one today, and great deal. I paid $300.00 for the first one from our local IT consultant.

Cons: None the I have

Other Thoughts: I would like to mention, per Netgears Tech, there is no difference between the JGS524 & the JGS524NA. The "NA" is a country code. They also told me that all of their switches that are 24 ports or more have fans. Newegg has this listed as fanless. I can confirm my current one has a fan.

3 out of 5 eggsFanless? Why??

Pros: Great product. Lots of bandwidth. Clearly uses less electricity than my previous switch. LEDs are clear and easily understood. Comes with brackets for wall mounting. Easy setup.

Cons: No fan. Pictures show a fan on this device - and is mentioned in a lot of reviews. Some of the latest reviews are stating no fan, however the photos show differently.

Other Thoughts: This seems to be the going thing these days - no more fans on hot devices. Make sure your device stays cool to the touch otherwise you may have to implement a better type of heat dissipation.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat switch, but watch the rebate

Pros: This switch is fast and silent. As others have mentioned, the current revision of this switch is completely fanless. I also like the fact that it has an internal power supply. Lifetime warranty is a plus.

Cons: I submitted my rebate to Netgear and about a week later I received an email containing my rebate tracking number.

When I checked the rebate status online using the tracking number, I was surprised to see that my rebate was denied due to an 'Invalid Purchase Location'. Nice.

Newegg was clearly listed as a valid purchase location on the rebate form, and I had included my Newegg receipt in my rebate submission.

I contacted the rebate company's customer service department and the rep said that they would escalate my case to Netgear, and that I would be notified of the outcome within 7-10 business days.

A few minutes later I checked my rebate status again and it had changed to "Your rebate is valid and is scheduled for final processing." That was a fast 7-10 days :)

In the end I suspect I will receive my rebate, but I suggest that you keep an eye on yours.

5 out of 5 eggsLatest version is Fanless

Pros: Just works, Silent, internal power supply

Cons: connectivity / speed lights are all on the left side of the box - prefer when the lights are above each port like on other netgear switches

Other Thoughts: Lots of reviews of this product say it has a loud fan. The most recent version is fanless - I purchased in February 2013 - so totally silent. The marketing materials in the box have not been changed to reflect this, but the outside of the box now says fanless, and the unit is indeed silent.
