5 out of 5 eggsWorks after 8 years.

Pros: I've been going through my order history for the sake of nostalgia, and realized that I'm still using this switch. It's been in constant operation since 2006.

It's certainly capable of doing 1gbps, though I've never had occasion to max it out on more than two ports. (One upstream, one down).

It's never failed on me nor caused unreasonable network latency. What more could you want in a simple workgroup switch of this type? That's why it gets 5 eggs.

Plus the chassis is metal. It feels solid.

Cons: Nothing I can think of.

Other Thoughts: This was once my "core" switch at home back in my happy days of low electric bills. Now it's been replaced by an off-lease HP Procurve monster that takes up 8U of rack space. The Netgear still hums away (figuratively -- it make no noise) at the edge connecting a couple of printers and a workstation.

5 out of 5 eggsPractically Bulletproof, no nonsense switch

Pros: Super reliable, unmanaged switch. Auto uplink, requires no setup. Gigabit speeds without hassle.

Cons: Front panel jacks are harder to integrate into some setups

Other Thoughts: Lifetime warranty, but will probably never need it. I'm sure the power supply will go bad before the rest of the switch. I use this switch behind my TV to connect to a basement router, then I have a WAP, a WDTV Live, a BD player, a Tivo, and an Obihai. I also have another cable running to a separate switch in my home theater room. This 8-port switch handles all the traffic flawlessly and is never a bottleneck.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great

Pros: Excellent enclosure
Plug and play (like it should be)
small form factor

Cons: Can't think of any

Other Thoughts: When it's on sale and with a rebate this switch is hard to beat. Love the lifetime warranty too, though in 10 years I doubt 1gig will be all that common, but who knows.

5 out of 5 eggsgood switch for the home network

Pros: Solid metal construction, reliable operation. I prefer a switch with the jacks and lights on the same side and with real metal cases for durability and heat dissipation. Netgear is always a good choice.

Cons: None

5 out of 5 eggswell worth the money

Pros: I have 3 of these here and have installed others at other locations. they have been rock solid, have never had any issues.
but if I did they are covered by the lifetime warranty.

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: you just cannot go wrong with this unit and its lifetime warranty.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks as advertised

Pros: Simple switch, Rugged metal case is defiantly nice. I'm not worried about overheating. Rock solid so far,up and running for 1 month. Transfer a lot of files and this was right up my alley.

Cons: None so far

5 out of 5 eggsWhat a buy!

Pros: Nice bulletproof metal frame and cabinet, great looks, cost less than some inferior plastic ones.

Cons: Front CAT5 inputs, but I guess that is expected on business class machines. And that my friends is the only thing that I would like to see changed.

Other Thoughts: If you are looking for a network switch, this is the one you should buy. Don't even bother looking at others. These last for many, many years. This is the 3rd on that I have purchased in 20 years, and the only reason that I don't have the other 2 is because they were accidentally tossed away in a clean up!!

5 out of 5 eggsExactly what I wanted for my home network

Pros: Cheap and VERY easy to use; just power it up.
It's basically a 'no brainer' -- don't worry about 'patch-panels'; RJ45-A or RJ45-B -- just plug any up-link or any down-link into any of it's ports -- it knows how to handle it! Any idiot can do it.

Cons: haven't found any yet
