1 out of 5 eggsJunk. Died after 2 months, Netgear support is the next best thing to worthless

Pros: none

Cons: Absolutely lousy support - based in India, thick accents, they hang up on you while transferring calls. Don't resolve the issue, on hold for 20 minutes to simply swap out a non-functional device. The whole time the phone system tells you how you can get service online with useless tips. I had to give the same info to 5 different people 5 times. 2 cases created, one was wrong - presales. One for the support issue. Explained the issue numerous times.

Other Thoughts: This type of support is completely and utterly worthless. Connect me to someone that speaks fluent English in the USA. Don't make me wait on hold, don't cut me off, stop running me through a script when I've told you that I'm a technician and I've diagnosed the issues you're asking about. Give me an RMA, send me an advance replacement, no nonsense. Do that and I'll continue to buy from you. Or don't, and you get nothing. Simple as that.

4 out of 5 eggsNot Rack mountable

Pros: It's Netgear, being a Netgear fan I assume that the quality is consistent with all the other Netgear switches I have installed.

Cons: It's not rack mountable. It seems like a great value for someone that needs just a few PoE ports in a residential or small office environment but if you are planning on installing it in a rack you will need a shelf which is a deal breaker for me.

Other Thoughts: I really love Newegg, They stepped up to the table and made this right, but if you need a rackmount switch look elsewhere.

5 out of 5 eggsGood product

Pros: Works very well, plug and play.

Cons: After 2.5 years of continious service, the PoE injector circuit seems fatigued. Switching functions still work fine, but having PoE devices plugged in for more than a few hours now will cause the switch to power-cycle all devices as it is overloaded. Again, this is after years of service, so not really that bad.

4 out of 5 eggslow powered POE devices

Pros: pretty cheap for a POE switch

Cons: it will only power 15w POE devices. So if you have a fancy VOIP phone - find a POE switch that can pump out more power.

2 out of 5 eggsPoE Limited

Pros: Works like an unmanaged switch is supposed to, plug and play networking.

Cons: This device has 8 PoE ports. It can not handle 8 class 3 PoE devices as implied. In my case it max'd out at 3. The 4th device caused the switch to actually stop working.

Over loading the PoE capabilities will cause all ports to stop functioning properly, not just PoE ports or the port in question. Your network on this switch will collapse.

It's fine for limited PoE capability, where you need to plug 1-3 (maybe 4 if you are lucky) Class 3 PoE devices in.

Other Thoughts: Do your PoE power consumption calculations before buying this. And don't assume you will actually get to use all 55W of advertised PoE power. Assume 40W max. in my experience.

2 out of 5 eggsDid not work

Pros: Works good as a switch not using the POe ports.

Cons: POe ports did not work at all with Compex WP54G. Possibly dead on arrival.

Other Thoughts: I have used one of these before to power Compex access points, with no problem but could never use 8 ports- not enough power. I could only use 6 ports.

4 out of 5 eggsRead the power budget

Pros: cost

Cons: max PoE budget of 55W

Other Thoughts: If you try to plug in 8 class 3 802.af WAPs (requiring 12.95W each), they won't all work. 802.3af allows for device classifications based upon power requirement, and this switch has 8 802.3af ports with a max budget of 55W -- meaning a maximum of 4 class 3 devices can be supplied simultaneously.

Knowing what you need is critically important when considering PoE.

2 out of 5 eggsNot enough power for cisco 1252's

Pros: none

Cons: none

Other Thoughts: I purchased with the only purpose of using with some cisco 1252 access points, however I'm returning them because they do not provide enough power for the access points.. Yes they do provide power, but a warning displays on each access point's gui explaining that due to insuficient power it is operating at a reduce functionality... you

5 out of 5 eggsNIce Switch

Pros: Quiet. Plenty of power

Cons: Not enough POE ports

Other Thoughts: I have all 8 poe ports filled with cisco phones and it is performing well. The passive heat disipation makes it a plus for noise senstive environments. Instead of limiting the poe ports to 8, they should allow all ports to be poe and just set a max wattage. My 8 phone setup only uses about 37 watts. Well under the pusblished 55.
