1 out of 5 eggsPiece of garbage.

Pros: none.

Cons: It really worked great for the first 4 days of having it! Since then, I have reinstalled drivers and accompanying software many times and essentially every time my computer suspends or restarts it completely stops working again. Tons of people on various forums have had loads of problems with this thing. Never getting netgear again, hopefully I can still return it and move to another company. Incredibly frustrating.

Other Thoughts: Do not buy.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: works great when it works

Cons: likes to drop the signal from the NetGear WNDR3800 Router.

Other Thoughts: I bought this thinking that since we have a NetGear Router, they should be able to connect AND stay connected. Sometimes it works flawlessly for days, but then just can't seem to stay connected for more than a few minutes. I'm trying to work from home and this is completely unacceptable.

I've been through the wringer with NetGear Support. First, I can't hardly understand the foreigners they have reading the cue cards/following the flow-chart for their extremely lame tech support. They even RMA'd the adapter. The second one is maybe a little better than the first, but still a loser.

Really odd thing is that my son has the exact same model and his performs flawlessly!

Won't be buying any more NetGear!

Sorry NetGear!

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Neil,

We apologize that support was unable to assist you and ask that you email us at with a copy and paste of your review and any case numbers that you received from support.

Look forward to hearing from you!

4 out of 5 eggsMy First Foray into N-wireless

Pros: Good connection speeds
Good driver availability

Cons: Seems that connection drop-outs are all too common.
See Other Thoughts for more information.

Other Thoughts: I received this a a gift to replace my 802.11g adapter, and it worked just fine with G-wireless. Then my old G router died, and I got an N300 router.
The N300 router with this N600 adapter really improved my transfer rates: with my 50Mbps internet service, I went from ~20Mbps with my old adapter to ~50Mbps with the N600 adapter and the N300 router.
After a couple of weeks I started getting frequent connection losses. I found that by broadcasting my N 5GHz-band SSID, which I like to keep hidden for security, all of my 5GHz-band devices (this adapter, a couple of smartphones & a tablet) became much more reliable.
Since it affected all of my 5GHz-band usage, I have to think that this issue is more router related, than any trouble with the N600 adapter, but if you're experiencing drop-out problems, it might be worth a try.
I'm not too worried about anyone piggy-backing on my service, as my neighbors aren't close enough to receive the signal, and the WPA2 security would stop them, anyway.

1 out of 5 eggsComplete waste of money

Pros: Good connection from distance.

Cons: After about 2-3 weeks it would drop connection regularly. horrible if you are a gamer. Now after 6-7 months it completely died. Doesn't even power on when connected to my PC.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry to hear about your WNDA3100 and want to let you know that you can post on our forums. From there they can get you the next step to getting a possible RMA.

5 out of 5 eggsHave 2 of these now.

Pros: Great bang for the buck! ---MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE SOFTWARE BEFORE YOU PLUG IT INTO YOU COMPUTER!!--- If you install this per the direction's you should have no problem with it. With a high speed internet connection I have tested it and got a little over 50megs per sec download and a consistent over 5 megs per sec upload with 0 packet's lost. I just gave one to my wife for here birthday and have also had no problem's with it either. Just remember to run the install disk before you hook this up. Pretty good range too. Her pc is on the other side of the house and show 4 bars. Will replace with same whenever the time comes.

Cons: A little longer cable would be a plus but no big deal.

Other Thoughts: For the price this is a pretty good deal. But this is just my opinion.

1 out of 5 eggsDrops a lot

Pros: When it's working it is fast and powerful. Gets a lot of signal from even far distance.

Cons: After the first week it started to drop a lot. I got it since i can't put an internal wifi so i paid 65 bucks for it. I regret it now. It drops every few minutes and i use it for gaming. Even when i'm watching HD videos on Youtube it drops. It gets annoying since i'm a live streamer and i can't stay streaming long since it drops. Sometimes it drops every 5 seconds. Sadly Netgear has no fix to this yet.

I wont recommend this one. No matter who you talk to in NetGear no one will tell you how to fix it. In my case they wont even replace it for me. worst 65 dollars i've ever spent.

Other Thoughts: Please find some other wifi connector. Ignore this one and don't buy it.

5 out of 5 eggsUpdate to Bad Review

Pros: This is an update to my 2nd Review - Resolved the disconnect issue and it has been rock solid since.

Cons: None – Other than I wish that a dual band USB wireless adapter can be made smaller in size.

Other Thoughts: Since my negative review, it just so happened that I ran into a problem at work where we were deploying over a 100 new printers and after about a week we started to get calls that the printers were getting a “79” error. Now, you can expect a few failures but not every single printer that had been deployed. Turns out that what resolved that issue resolved the issue with this adapter dropping out. I am running W7, but I am guessing that it may be an issue in W8 as well. The solution is that you need to turn off the sleep mode on the USB ports. By default, a fresh install of W7 is set to put the USB ports to sleep and if you have a newer PC, there is a setting in the Bios as well that will put them to sleep and it does not matter if you’re in the middle of a print job or in this case on the internet, it will just shut it down causing the disconnect issue. Here is how to disable the USB sleep Mode:
Right click on your main screen then -
Select Personalize:
Screen Saver
Change Power Settings
Change Plan Settings
Change Advanced Power Settings
Scroll to USB Settings and disable.
If you do this correctly, it will solve the disconnect issue and the need to reboot your PC to get it to reconnect.

Manufacturer Response:

We are glad to hear everything is working great!

If you have any more issues, please let us know!

2 out of 5 eggsNot a very stable adapter

Pros: For the price it is a good dual-band network adapter.

Cons: Speeds were never consistent, would fluctuate between 48mbps to 240mbps on the 2.4Ghz band.
On the 5Ghz band, it would have constant 300mbps connection, but would if copying large files or during heavy gaming...the connection would drop requiring disconnecting the adapter and reconnecting it. Has since stopped working and I am switching to a full wired solution. Tired of wireless adapters failing.

Other Thoughts: Since having the adapter I have replaced my router, as I assumed it was the culprit of the disconnections and speed fluctuations.

Manufacturer Response:

We are very sorry about the disconnection issues. If you are interested in looking for some help-- please feel free to contact our support team at

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: none

Cons: worked great for about 2 weeks then the signal became unstable coming in and out with lots of random disconnects...took this back cuz the first one did the same thing and it only lasted a garbage

Other Thoughts: never getting a netgear product again...had a netgear wireless card before this and it was worthless

3 out of 5 eggsOk, not the greatest

Pros: Fast connection, easy to use. Smallish

Cons: Drops connection a lot.

Software it came with sucked and was redundant as I could by pass it all together.

Other Thoughts: Update the drivers, it helped with my connection issues, made it faster. Drops connection less, but I still have connection issues from time to time.
