1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Setup and configuration not bad
Decent speeds when working

Cons: Constantly drops connections and shuts itself down.

Other Thoughts: Despite the terrible reviews this product received everywhere, we purchased this AP to compliment our Netgear ProSafe Firewall and gigabit switches. Big mistake; this thing is terrible. There are only about a dozen employees in this simple network, of which only a *handful* connect wirelessly. Those who do connect wirelessly ask me just about every day if the internet is down.

Often times, the network disappears and, when I check on the unit, none of the lights are even on. Restarting it seems to get it running for a few more hours.

Other times, the network is visible, and computers can connect to it, but it appears to be not connected to the internet.

Range is not an issue: I get three to four bars throughout our small office.

Trust the reviews next time. I've just purchased the Ubiquiti UniFi AP which has raving reviews. Hopefully it arrives before my wireless coworkers go postal!

1 out of 5 eggsComplete garbage

Pros: Works ok when running.

Cons: Range is horrendous, unit requires reboot daily, unreliable, lousy support. Cheap material makes it feel extremely fragile.

Other Thoughts: Even after reading the mixed reviews on this item I decided to give it a try. Big mistake! Ran fine for about 5 days and then required a reboot daily (which it still does). Customer support ran out of things to try when troubleshooting. Ended up running a NIC cable to the blueray and Wii due to the slow wireless speeds.

1 out of 5 eggslousy access point

Pros: easy to set up.

Cons: constantly drops connections; firmware upgrade fails and bricks the system.

Other Thoughts: lousy product, lousy support from NetGear.

1 out of 5 eggsBad All around

Pros: Worked "good enough" for a year in a business environment

Cons: Dropped often. After about 1 year the board fried itself even though it was on an expensive UPS. Documentation said it had a 3 year warranty so i called Netgear to get a replacement. They said that it only had a 1 year warranty. I got a case number, emailed in the documentation to their support email as requested and called back a week later. They claimed they never received the documentation. I went through this 3 more times before i realized that they were really trying to get rid of me.

Other Thoughts: This is really sad because i have a couple high end netgear products including a WNDAP350 and GS748TP. At this point netgear is on my companies do not buy list due to poor customer service and not complying with their own warranty.

1 out of 5 eggsPiece of Junk

Pros: Easy to setup

Cons: Wireless signal looks like a Yo-Yo. Up... Down... Up... Down... over and over. Firmware updates brick devices, necessitating a hack to get at the core of the system to flash back to earlier firmware.

Other Thoughts: Somebody has to make a good consumer version of a Wireless Access Point, but Netgear is not that company. And that's a shame as I have a Netgear 24 port 10/100/1000 Siwthc and a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo NAS device and those both work with no troubles.

1 out of 5 eggsAP that really fails to deliver

Pros: Compact, small unit. Easy to setup.

Cons: I have had three of these units in a business environment. I started off with two, one dropped its wireless signal constantly. I have flashed and moved the AP to a different location since - wireless signal has degraded but works. Second AP just flat failed, no power at all. Reboot, work for a bit then boom - no power. Took me several phone calls to technical support to get a RMA on this one, and even then it was like pulling teeth to get them to understand that I couldnt troubleshoot the issue I was having.

Other Thoughts: I have had good and bad experiences from all makes of networking equipment, however, this was the one that left a real bad taste in my mouth.

The second AP was RMA'd and I got what looked like a new one back (sealed box). Though the scratch makes on the front of the AP gave me a clue that perhaps it wasnt. Anyways, the RMA also drops signal and then refuses to talk to the network. I am just tossing it in the trash, I refuse to deal with this model.

1 out of 5 eggsReally bad technical support

Pros: Setup is fairly easy, because there just aren't that many options.

Cons: Bought 2 of these - one started losing power for no reason every month or so. I'm not knocking off eggs for that, but for the deplorable technical support. Their support line announces, "At Netgear, we want to give you the support you deserve." Apparently the support I deserve is a call center full of barely understandable "technicians" who not only don't know the difference between a router and an access point, they haven't mastered the basic skill of listening. It took me five phone calls over three days to set up an RMA.

Oh yeah, only once in the past year have I seen a computer connect at better than 54Mbps.

Other Thoughts: I would sooner slam my face into the bottom of an old PCB than purchase another Netgear product.

1 out of 5 eggsLost Connections in Bridge Mode

Pros: Easy setup

Cons: Losses connection every day. Many times when I do have connection, the speed is 80% lower than wireless laptop sitting right next to it.

Other Thoughts: I have only used this in Bridge mode. Do your homework before purchasing this.
