4 out of 5 eggsWorks Well For Me

Pros: Easy To Set up. Follow the Genie installation guide. No software required to install on your computer

Cons: None really but when I mounted it horizontally the bottom of the unit got very, very warm. Almost hot. I used the stand to mount it vertically and the next day it was ice cold.

Other Thoughts: I bought this device to replace a failing Actiontec modem/router that was only 17 months old. I have existing Verizon DSL service. Remember to wait for the globe to light up yellow on the router after you hook it up. I waited over an hour after I hooked everything up. Then I was good to go. I didn't even have to call Verizon for the user id & password that the directions recommended. Just follow the Genie. I even noticed improved speed over the Actiontec. We use this device with 2 wired devices and 5 wireless devices and all of them work well as expected.

1 out of 5 eggsDid not receive what I ordered

Pros: I received something.

Cons: I did not receive what I ordered. Also, what I did receive was severely damaged. I am now waiting to see if they will refund my money and take back their garbage. This seems like a pattern with these guys so I would recommend buying elsewhere.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry to hear about the mix-up. When you receive the actual DGN2200 please let us know if you need any assistance. Our support team can be found at support.netgear.com.

Regards,

NETGEAR Team

5 out of 5 eggsGreat after solving problem

Pros: Fast, reliable, good range. I connect an Ipod Touch 5th gen to this as well as My cell phone and kindle Fire HD tablet, and two Roku's. I have hard wired my main computer to this as well. everything runs great. I also love the easy press button security set up as well as the other button which turns off your Wifi but not your hard wired connection. So if you go to work you don't have to worry about someone using your router. Also you can setup a second ssid which I did to setup a guest connection to keep people separate from my home network yet still give people/guests access to the internet. Streaming movies is not a problem with this!!!

Cons: Lights don't flash when uploading or downloading so you cant tell unless you have something on screen showing your upload/download progress. Not a big deal but would have been nice.

Other Thoughts: I have the dgn2200v3 model and could for the life of me not figure out why I could not save changes in the routers config. Then I tried something. I was using Internet Explorer to log into the router and change settings. With no success I tried Firefox browser and I was able to change the settings and SAVE them. I don't know what in Internet Explorer prevented me from saving changes but after using Firefox everything works great. Very easy to upgrade firmware and very solid performer after everything was done. I use my model Dgn2200v3 With Centurylink and everything is great. I only use firefox to change settings and save them after that I went back to internet explorer cause I know it better. not knocking Forefox browser at all.

1 out of 5 eggsTried two - both failed

Pros: None so far.

Cons: First unit would open the initial setup page but time out on any access after that. Second unit would time out trying to access the initial page.
Both assigned address correctly to my PC, and I could ping the modem @ its gateway address - so they weren't completely dead.
Without being able to access the setup, they were just a pair of bookends.
Returned to retailer, and looking elsewhere.

Other Thoughts: Spent a long time with support on phone and chat. They were both polite, but just reading from a script - and doing the same things I had already done over and over - didn't help much.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: NONE. Product did not work.

Cons: This is the second order of the same model (first was from Ama zon). BOTH,
repeat BOTH of them failed in the same exact way in that they were not able to pass packets once connected to DSL. The Internet light always stayed RED.

I can not recommend you buy this unit with such a bad fail rate.

I worked with Netgear to solve the problem and was unable to do so.

Other Thoughts: rating system is needs to be fixed. I would give negivite stars.

Manufacturer Response:

We apologize for the problems and would like to offer our full assistance if you choose to get another DGN2200. Please contact us directly at newegg@netgear.com with a copy and paste of your review and any case numbers you recieved from support.

We hope to hear from you soon,

5 out of 5 eggsEasier than expected

Pros: Fast LAN
Flat or tower orientation
Very easy install

Cons: How did that other guy get it for $20?

Other Thoughts: Replaced AT&T DSL Modem/router. Got all the numbers from AT&T before ordering, but only needed sign-in and password. Easiest router install ever.

5 out of 5 eggsNo Problems

Pros: Worked great, never had a problem with it at all! Would still be using it if I hadn't switched to cable!

Cons: The user interface takes a little getting use to, but read a little about it and its pretty simple.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks great, just make sure you check some things before you buy.

Pros: Fast, Reliable, Does what it's supposed to. Saw the GNU license inside, good to see big companies going open source. Haven't had heating problems; I own the v3 version.

Cons: Only one I can think of is that it may be confusing to set up for an inexperienced user, but it's not the product's fault, it's the way DSL works with it's login credentials and whatnot. See Other Thoughts for an explanation.

It was hard to hear the indian woman on the phone giving me the login info? hahaha

Other Thoughts: All you need to do to set it up is call your ISP to find out your login, password, and the settings for two things called VPI and VCI. (That was my experience with Quest/CenturyLink) A paper included confirmed it to work with AT&T, Verizon, Qwest and CenturyLink, but consult your ISP to be sure. Just be assertive that you don't want support, you just want your login credentials for your new modem.

1 out of 5 eggsWorthless

Pros: it showed up on time

Cons: Everything about it. It wouldnt connect to qwest internet, so i decided i would use it as a router and disable the wifi on the qwest modem. all that did was let some computers connect to it, and others wouldnt have internet. After a month of trying different things i got frustrated and decided to see how well it stood up to a hammer. Needless to say i wasted my money, wont buy anyhting netgear again and i have alot of peices of router to clean up.

Other Thoughts: Junk!
