4 out of 5 eggsWalmart buy

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Netgear Genie, Good features, Connects to 7+ devices at a time

Cons: Supplied ethernet cable was cause of router failure resulting in a need for periodic reboots. See other thoughts.

Other Thoughts: I have this router combined with a Motorola Surfboard sb6121 and a speed of 30mbps Extreme. I was using the ethernet cable supplied by the router, but router would stop working and needed a reboot. So I decided to switch over to the ethernet cable supplied by the modem and so far haven't had any issues. I also elevated the router for better signal and made changes to the QoS features on routerlogin.net. I can comfortably use both bands at 300 mbps Performance mode. 4 eggs because of the ethernet cable, but for my recent expirience, it does deserve 5. Signal on the other hand may be questionable for larger homes, but that's expected with these types of routers.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat for my needs

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: - Good range. I live in an upper apartment and get the 5ghz at the end of my driveway which is impressive.
- Good speeds. Can handle 2 PCs, 1 Tablet, 3 phones, 1 wireless printer, and 1 chromecast without issues.
- Easy setup. The wizard gets it up in minutes.

Cons: - Easy Share is weak and can be a pain setting up. Features are limited. I don't use it so it doesn't bother me too much.
- Generates heat. Make sure it is well ventilated.

Other Thoughts: As for the easy storage, I find it much better to setup a shared drive or volume. The advantage of the Easy Share is it be be accessed over the web without exposing your PC to the cloud.

I bought this at a retailer, not Newegg.

1 out of 5 eggsNever buying anything from Netgear again

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Worked fine for 3 and a half months without any issue

Cons: extorsion! it works fine for 3 and a half months, and then it suddenly stopped working. When calling their customer service they wanted us to buy an extended warranty which was expensive. After you own this for a period of time a mandatory update is required for it to continue, they will not let you download this required update until you purchase the extended warranty. Even if you don't want a warranty, they force you to pay more money than the equipment is worth for it to function. In other words, one day you're brand new Netgear router will work perfectly, the next 'sorry you must pay more and download an update to continue'.

Very disappointed.

2 out of 5 eggsDidn't hold up, never worked well

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Lasted less than 18 months. Had continual problems with wireless connectivity on all PC's. Ultimately woke up one Sunday morning to find wireless was dead but PC's had good wireless signal! PC's could not connect through wireless so ran Cat5 to bypass temporarily. Lan ports and DHCP in unit was still working. Working on RMA with Netgear will see how that goes and follow up. Will just use replacement for guest access.

I have come to believe all this consumer grade stuff is built on low levels of reliability.

Cons: Nothing special. Not reliable. Short range

Other Thoughts: This unit is dated and only has a 100m lan port. I would not recommend purchasing this.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Thomas,

We are very sorry to hear that your WNDR3400 stopped working. Have you checked to see if you have the lifetime warranty?

2 out of 5 eggsReadyShare Feature NOT As Advertised!

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Excellent feature set and capabilities.
Excellent wired and wireless networking.
Excellent ease of setup and configuration.

Cons: Absolutely horrid NAS (USB hard drive connectivity) feature, known as "readyshare".

Simply stated: This router has trouble detecting USB attached hard drives (via the port on the router itself).

After many hours of in depth troubleshooting and consultation with the manufacturer tech support, the verdict is in; the readyshare "feature" is all but totally broken. Of the thousands of USB storage devices available, readyshare supports a list of devices you can print on the back of a business card. Check their site (supported devices) for proof. The odds of readyshare working for any given application is extremely limited at best.

I tried many product combinations in addition to insuring there were no additional factors at play (various partition sizes, various filesystems, bad power supplies, bad cabling, etc.)

WD 1TB MyBook -- Didn't work. WD 4TB Red in Vantec NST-366S3-BK - Didn't work. Sandisk 8GB and 32GB thumb drives - Did work. SG 500GB in Vantec NST-366S3-BK - Did work. Various 500GB to 2TB hard drives in a number of other USB 1.1 and 2.0 enclosures -- 2 of 12 combinations worked, both combinations involved a different drive and different enclosures.

You'll read it elsewhere on the web and I can confirm it: The manufacturer's tech support personnel know very little about the readyshare feature. In the end, I discovered that they know it doesn't work properly and, apparently, they have no idea why. Hours of technical support sessions proved fruitless in resolving this issue.

Other Thoughts: Why 2 eggs and not 1? I gave it an extra egg because most features work excellently. However, I have a real problem recommending any product that does not perform completely as advertised. If a feature is broken, it should be removed, and certainly not advertised as a selling point.

Shame on you, Netgear.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsNot a terribly reliable router

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: None that I can think of

Was free with Optimum service

Cons: 5g connection is very flakey, drops intermittently
Range is average, had Wi-Fi routers from early 2000 era with same range
Gets plenty hot over time, adequate spacing required
Flimsy stand, broke mine within 1 day

Other Thoughts: Not sure how much of the router performance is the router and how is the ISP

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsVery disappointing

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Easy to set up. Good wireless coverage

Cons: Consistently drops connection. Reset with Windows 7 troubleshooting corrects but does not cure the problem. I've been working with Netgear for a month and have implemented all their recommendations to no avail. They claim to have Beta software which will correct the problem, but require the customer to sign an agreement assuming all risks of using it. Ridiculous. They will exchange the unit but require a $16 fee to do so. Also ridiculous. I'd stay away from this product if i were you.

Other Thoughts: Waste of money.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsUnderwhelming, but solid

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: Great build quality
reliable, stable
plenty of features out of the box

Cons: Not gigabit
top gets smudges and fingerprints easily
blue WPS light a little annoying
costly
Not ddwrt capable (at least, not this revision)

Other Thoughts: I bought this router locally when my old one finally bit the dust. They didn't have a lot of options, so I went with this one. I assumed it was gigabit capable at this price point, but was wrong (obviously not the router's fault). Overall it's a fine product, but certainly won't win any awards from me in this price range. No issues going on over a year.

Manufacturer Response:

We thank you choosing the WNDR3400 and want to let you know that we are here to answer any questions. Our forums are a great place to troubleshoot and ask questions.

4 out of 5 eggsHard to hate when it's free.

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: It can be really cheap. It depends on where you buy it and when. It's got a bright light on it. It's cool looking for a while. You do not need a cd to setup. Just login to the router from a web browser.
I get great range on this router with both networks. 4 bars on 5ghz when I'm 50 feet from the router. The signal goes through 2 walls. My in-laws were picking up the 2.4ghz from the guest house about 200 feet away. wow.

Cons: 10/100m. The wifi pops after a while. 5ghz will just vanish. 2.4ghz will flicker. This can happen after a good 4-5 days of downloading stuff non-stop. The issue is resolved with a 10 second reset. For now. I can't figure a way to reset it from the admin page. First router I ever owned with no remote reboot function.

Other Thoughts: Picked one of these up at another website. The seller never confirmed the shipment. I got it for free. My last router was a E3000. It bricked after a month with ddwrt on it. That router lasted 3 years or so. Hopefully this one will last at least that long. I wouldn't spend more than 45 bucks on this.

2 out of 5 eggsWorks great, when it DOES.

This review is from: NETGEAR WNDR3400-100NAS N600 Wireless Router Simultaneous Dual Band IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n 2.4/5GHz 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Port x4

Pros: pretty lights

Cons: After the first 6 months problems started to crop up. It has to be reset after a year about once a week or even less. This router drives me crazy! and it was not a cheapie!

Other Thoughts: Skip this gem and buy something else.
