You just got your high speed modem (it could be cable, DSL, fiber optics . . . something nifty), and you've got your computers, and you've got your wireless interface cards. Now you need the final element: the router.

With four wired ports and the wireless connection, you're ready to take on the Internet and all it has to offer. Or maybe you just need a local network off the 'Net for your small office. Maybe you'll hook your desktop up by cable, and carry your wireless laptop to your favorite seat. Control and configuration are easy with browsers like Internet Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.0. (It's best to do your configuration from a hard-wired connection, not the wireless.)

Could this be the router for you? That's your decision, not ours. We'll be here, cheerfully waiting while you make up your mind.

Pros: Very stable at first. I was having issues with my old router dropping the network, leaving me without wifi until I reset it. The Linksys worked flawlessly....for the first couple weeks.

Cons: I really want to like this product. I have a Linksys modem that is 10 years old that still works great, and after reading all the amazing reviews about the WRT54GL I figured why not go with another Linksys. Well, I've had nothing but trouble after the first couple weeks.

The router lags very hard, which results in nearly unusable internet (We're talking slightly better than dial up speeds). After doing some research, and updating the firmware, the problem seemed resolved (for the first 15 minutes) until the same thing happened again. I'm forced to go back to my old router until I find a suitable replacement.

Other Thoughts: If linksys has a solution on how to get the router working properly, I'm happy to try it, otherwise this router will be on the first truck back to the warehouse.

1 out of 5 eggsNew to junk in less than 6 months

Pros: - Cheap
- Can hardwire several devices

Cons: Broke after about 5 months. The wireless appears to be useless now, so I have to be hardwired to the router or to the modem to get any kind of stable connection. On wireless, speedtest.net gives me 0-5Mbps down, averaging 1 Mbps, 2 up for some reason. Wired, 25 down, 2 up. Sadly, the usual trick of unplugging it and plugging it back in again makes no difference. Looks like I get to shell out for a router that's not utter garbage.

Other Thoughts: Waste of money.

1 out of 5 eggsthis router don't work

Pros: I'm not sure on pros.
I thought it would be new enough to get rid of this low slow data transfer for when i'm playing online multiplayer games on the xbox 360. My ISP might bee the problem but they say i get up to 12mbs but sure infact i never get anything over 1.6 when i look at my black ops 2 bandwith in the options.

Cons: Idk about cons..doesn't mattter i guess.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Good speed for price.

Cons: Drops connection everyday. Requires full reset everyday. Has to be configured everyday due to reset. Will attempt RMA. Not happy at all. Just bought this router 2 months ago.

Other Thoughts: I own one of these that I bought over 5 years ago and it work perfect to this day. Not sure why this one is so horrible, but I am hoping the RMA will fix it. Probably the last chance I will give Linksys. I have bought other Linksys routers and had similar troubles like I have currently.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY!

Pros: Worked for a day...

Cons: Cheap
Difficult to set up
Bad reception
Resets itself for unknown reasons
My father has same problems but he doesn't care, main point: the problems are consistent with the item!

Other Thoughts: BEWARE! DO NOT BUY!

1 out of 5 eggsFailed in First 3 months

Pros: Good reviews for the most part - can load 3rd party software on it but doesnt help me

Cons: Keeps crashing - have to do factory resets daily now. Worked fine for a month or so. The blocking is a pain - if you want to keep kids of facebook at night this has the option but you have to add mac's by hand.

Other Thoughts: Supprt was not helpfull all they want to do is keep telling me to do a factory reset - Sorry not gunna do that every day. Getting another router. And it wont be a linksys they burned me twice now.

1 out of 5 eggsWhy is this router rated so highly?

Pros: I am very happy with the NETGEAR WNDRMAC-100NAS router that I bought in place of the Linksys one.

Cons: I bought this based on its rating on Newegg, which in retrospect was a big mistake. Most of the reviews must be old given the aged design of the Linksys router. After installing it, I found the signal strength to be inadequate to reach the second story of my house. This was true even after I placed the router on top of a bookcase and boxes so that it was almost at the ceiling. It performed much worse than the Dlink DIR-655 router that it was supposed to replace. I RMA'd the Linksys router (which is a story in itself) and bought a NETGEAR WNDRMAC-100NAS router from Newegg. The Netgear router performed far better for the same amount of money.

Other Thoughts: I got a RMA for this Linksys router nut I had misplaced the packaging. By the time I found it the RMA had expired. Newegg told me that I can go through Linksys to get it repaired but I don't need it since I already bought a replacement Netgear router through Newegg. Now I'm stuck with a lame router. After the thousands of dollars of equipment I have bought from Newegg I expected better treatment.

1 out of 5 eggsLinksys WRT 54GL

Pros: Worked well, I have been happy with them when they worked. I have had several of these through the years.

Cons: Their tech support was awful, and they told me that my "complimentary support" was expired, so they couldn't help me. Somehow my hardware warranty was still valid, but they would not issue me an RMA until they verified that the router was bad. Get the idea?

Other Thoughts: Linksys is not the company it once was. Shop elsewhere!

1 out of 5 eggsThrew mine away

Pros: Pretty case. Excellent long range.

Cons: Kept dropping my password protected security. Reinstalled, reset and re-worked over 7 times. Mine was junk. Finally just threw it away rather than spend hours trying to return. If you buy one, I hope it works better for you than it did for me.

Other Thoughts: Due to its long range and no security, this can become a dangerous open networking risk.
