1 out of 5 eggsLimited Uses, not strong signal

Pros: It works if it is connected via ethernet to your router so very limited.

Cons: It is a major step back from the Linksys WAP54G that had four modes, including Repeater mode that allowed you to connect to your router wirelessly, and thus be an Access Point that covered your whole house. Made the mistake that this Access Point could be configured in that manner. Signal is about half as strong as Linksys new router models like the 4200v2 or EA4500.

Other Thoughts: This Access Point needs to be upgraded by Linksys to match the power of their new routers, and it also needs to work wirelessly for it to be beneficial to most users. The literature is not great and the fact that it needs to be connected to your router by Ethernet is not immediately apparent -- especially if you owned the Linksys WAP54G.

1 out of 5 eggsFirmware Bug

Pros: Easy to config.

Cons: Bought to install at a customers location, and found that it won't pass DHCP packets when encryption is enabled. Only applied to a windows SBS server situation.

1 out of 5 eggsterrible

Pros: none

Cons: Buggy - does not pass through DHCP from W2K3 server - known bug - you have to run with no encryption or WEP - not a solution - no fix from Cisco - do NOT recommend and am returning. Oh and I am MCSE and 20 year network veteran.

1 out of 5 eggsDO NOT BUY

Pros: nothing good to say.

Cons: This access point is horrible.

I bought 5 of these and all had the same issue.

It does not work with WPA, WPA2 or WEP authentication.

They do not pass a DHCP address. You can't get a DHCP IP address from the access point, you have to specify a static IP address.

Linksys forums are full with people with the same issue.

Plus it has issues with with channel selection, it will not allow you to lock a specific channel, will revert back to Auto.

1 out of 5 eggsNot good for resuming wifi

Pros: I install computer networks for a living. I normally don't install this brand, but had to in a pinch and so I bought two at staples down the street from the client's house. MacBooks can stream to Apple TV.

Cons: Configuring took longer than expected due to having to run the CD wizard (or you can log into your router to see which IP was issued). I updated the firmware, setup security, took about 30 minutes each access point. When MacBooks resume from sleep, you need to allow almost 2 minutes before attempting to connect to the web. I'll be dropping to G-mode only to see if this helps.

Other Thoughts: These are not cheap access points, but for the trouble I've went through, I feel sorry for any normal user having to set these up.

1 out of 5 eggsNot worth the money

Pros: None found.

Cons: Does NOT work on a 10.0.0.x network! Don't even try. Signal strength was very poor. Barely covered my customer's office.

Other Thoughts: Linksys failed on this one, I will be returning and using the e2000 as a WAP.

2 out of 5 eggsPlease do not buy

Pros: Small and no annoying blinking lights.

Cons: Setup wizard tried to control too much and does not give enough options. Signal is weak in both 2.4 and 5GHz bands. Even after trying to tweak the different settings in the WebUI reception was still poor. Disconnects happen frequently. This product is way over priced.

Other Thoughts: There is really no reason to buy this product as you can get the same quality for 1/4 of the price from other vendors.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

Pros: Easy to set up. Small footprint.

Cons: Have to use the CD to setup the AP the first time.

Other Thoughts: Works great. Have two of these in my house so now I can roam throughout with great wireless activity. I have one of these for over a year and got the second one yesterday. I have never had the first device reboot. Has been a great device. Would highly recommend.

1 out of 5 eggsDied after 2 minutes of use

Pros: I can't say much positive at this point, since it died after 2 minutes of use...

Cons: I jacked this thing into my network and was at the web config page in no time. Half way through configuring the AP, it timed out while saving settings. I looked up and saw that there were no LEDs lit on the AP. I unplugged it, plugged it back in and it work for another minute, then just powered off and wouldn't come back on. I plugged the AC adapter into several different power outlets and tries the reset feature, all to no avail.

Other Thoughts: I RMA'ed the AP, hoping that I'm just really unlucky...

1 out of 5 eggsShame on Linksys

Pros: None

Cons: This device is not simultaneous dual band - you can only run 2.4 or 5 ghz, not both at the same time. The device disconnects and/or reboots under load. You can not assign Class C static IP address for the device in range. Some wireless G and N clients cannot connect to AP with WPA/WPA2 security enabled, even though they connect OK when AP is set up with no wireless security. Many wireless clients connect OK but cannot receive a IP address via DHCP from network. Setting a static IP for wireless clients is not always an option.

I have two of these units and they are effectively bricks.

Other Thoughts: Check the Linksys support forums for backup to what I've written in the Cons area. The last firmware update for this device is almost 1 year ago. Linksys support is useless for this device. Complaints posted to the Linksys support forums are apt to be quickly moderated if you complain about their lack of support for this device.
