1 out of 5 eggsBEWARE, DO NOT BUY

Pros: easy setup

Cons: Have had this router for two months, worked great, until it just started giving very slow speeds. From 20 mbps to 1.65, called Linksys, they were very nice, but after two hours of troubleshooting, finally says I have defective unit, duh! Received second unit yesterday, SAME PROBLEMS!!! Do not buy e2500, very frustrating....

1 out of 5 eggsOkay for the average or novice user

Pros: Slim, nice looking, compact and stable. Wireless N 600. Can host a guest network as well as 2 other networks. Supports 802.11a/b/g/n. Holds DD-WRT for added management and support.

Cons: Slow after time, low end, Fast Ethernet/100mbps for the LAN ports. Gets warm. See Comments

Other Thoughts: This is a great router for general use. I am a power user. I do heavy network file transfers. Being limited by a router that has a faster wireless system than its LAN ports can carry is not only pathetic its disappointing and stupid. The LAN ports should at least be as fast as the WLAN. Makes no sense to me why I would have bought this knowing what I know. If your a power user like me buy a TP-Link Router, Gigabit Switch and a wireless N AP and go to town. I knocked it 4 eggs for lack of function and performance, plus i feel a bit ripped off. For the avg. user with DSL or standard/low end cable internet and have a small area for coverage this is a stable router for you.

Ownership is listed @ more than a year. Thats how long it sat on my shelf unused.

I use a TL-R470T+ router from TP-Link and a TP-Link 8 port 1G switch and a Linksys WRT54G v.2 serving my wireless. I will use this router to serv my wireless to have the wireless N capabilites.

2 out of 5 eggsGreat When Working

Pros: Worked great the first month or so. Great connectivity and easy to set up out of the box. The dual bands were a plus

Cons: After first month, gotten sluggish, weak connection, dropped connections a lot, even after going over different settings

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We posted your concern about the weak connection on the community forums. Check this link http://community.linksys.com/t5/Social-Media-Support/Newegg-com-E2500-Great-When-Working/td-p/624504 for updates.

2 out of 5 eggsWeak signal

Pros: It's ok if you hardwire it

Cons: I get 50 hardwired and 20 wireless using this thing. It's been pretty disappointing since I bought it. I actually had the wireless computer about 5 feet from the router and still only got 20mb/s. Also, the support is terrible if you don't have a warranty.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,
Thanks for your valuable review. Have you called our tech support? If yes, can you provide the case number given by the Support Team? We want to look into your case further and see what help we can do. 1 out of 5 eggsNot Worth It

Pros: When it worked decent.

Cons: Had this thing for 9 months and in that 9 months consistently had dropped wifi and slow to reconnect. Finally it just quit working like it should and worked when it felt like it. Contacted Cisco tech support only to have them try and sell me ,ore warranty and pay them to help me. After 9 months and this thing finally died and I bought it new and than could not get the help to fix it that I needed without costing me more money is ridiculous.

Other Thoughts: I will not recommend this product to family or friends and will move to other routers that provide better service.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsWi Fi issues

Pros: I'm not sure. It works... sometimes?

Cons: Consistant connection loss, dropped packets, sluggish response from router over Wi-Fi.

Pinging the gateway with around a 5-10ms response time, 2 feet from the router.

Has been with me in two apartments, and in multiple rooms in each place. The issue also persists through multiple wifi adapter, laptops, and cell phones. I've ruled out everything BUT the router.

Other Thoughts: $60 refurbished. I should have my head checked.

Manufacturer Response:

2 out of 5 eggsUseful settings but ultimately fails

Pros: Lots of settings out of the box allow for a lot of control.
Guest Access to allow guests on the network while blocking them from local files.

Cons: I can't get more than 10Mbps down on wireless, while I get 50Mbps on wired. While otherwise a great router, this has been a deal-breaker.

Good thing I only borrowed this and didn't waste money on it. A shame.

Other Thoughts: If you're not concerned with achieving maximum wi-fi speed, then its a great router. Otherwise, I'd strongly suggest other options.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi.

We appreciate you take time to post such valuable feedback. Your issue regarding slow wireless connection is posted in our Community Forum and one of the users advised you to check the link/card speed of the computer.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent buy for the money

Pros: Excellent signal, the MIMO antenna does its job quite well. Good throughput, and great performance even when hammered with lots of simultaneous connections such as peer sharing.

It has also been very reliable, and I could NOT have said that about some older Linksys/Cisco consumer-grade hardware (I'm looking at you, WRT54G). It has been at least as reliable as my old D-Link DGL-4300.

Cons: Can't really think of much. Power cord was a bit shorter than I'd have preferred, but not enough to cause problems, and not enough to knock an egg off. Wired ports aren't gigabit, but this isn't really much of an issue yet, and the E2700 added this.

Other Thoughts: I personally didn't use the Setup CD, but for most people the Setup disc is the best and easiest way to get up and running, and you can still adjust things manually later. The interface isn't the best but it isn't the worst either.

I play games online. I wanted to keep my latency low (and stable) even when there's a lot going on in terms of connections and bandwidth consumed. This router accomplishes this just as well as any gaming-grade router with competent QoS that I've used. It doesn't seem to matter what I hammer the router with, it doesn't significantly hurt my gaming or others' video streaming activities.

Compatibility seems good too, we've had no hiccups with a wide range of devices wired and wireless including a few wireless PCs, Xbox 360, iPad, iPod, iPhone, Android devices, a Surface, Kindle e-readers, and a Wii.
