1 out of 5 eggsTerribly dissapointed

Pros: Was easy to set up and had great speeds

Cons: Device updated firmware and now will not start up and just keep blinking the cisco logo, no wifi, no ethernet no menu options and reset is useless

Other Thoughts: Have been loyal with linksys routers sine my wireless b router

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Raymond,

Apologies for the inconvenience. Please allow us to assist you in resolving the challenges that you're experiencing with the router. How many seconds did press the reset button on the router? You may try resetting the device again for 30 seconds and do a power cycle. Please email us at LinksysCares@linksys.com with your contact details (Name, Phone no. and Email address), a link to this review and your username.

We're looking forward to assisting you.

1 out of 5 eggsLinksys EA6500

Pros: It worked for about three months without any issues.

Cons: Intermittent loss of wireless connectivity every day or every other day for unknown reasons. Wired connections work fine. Firmware is updated and Linksys support is worthless unless you need help with the reset process.
My old WRT54G works flawlessly but cann't keep up with my ISP's download speed. I've gone through two router upgrades since the WRT54G and neither was dependable after 6-months and both required constant resets to reestablish wireless connections. This is a bad trend for Linksys. Go with another brand name.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We appreciate your time for sharing your experience with us. Allow us to check into the situation.

The challenge could be due to wireless interferences like physical obstructions or the distance of the wireless devices from the router. Try changing the wireless channel of the router to 1, 6,9 or 11. Save the changes you made and reboot the router.

Let us know the result by sending us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com, indicating your name, contact details, location and the link to this post. We're hoping to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Linksys Support

5 out of 5 eggsBest Router I've Owned

Pros: Two USB ports for external device connection
Excellent range with no dropouts under 50ft.
Fast
Fast
Fast
Fast
and did I mention FAST

Cons: USB ports are only 2.0, not 3.0
Has a bit of a learning curve to it.

Other Thoughts: Purchased along with my laptop which has an Intel Wireless AC 7260 card in it.

Despite using Linksys wireless routers for the past 8 years, this one came with a bit of a learning curve that I did not face with previous models, partly due to the new web interface.

Once learned, this router is very simple to manage & to connect new devices.

For the past year, I've had my Android phone, iPad, laptop, wireless printer, and wireless central heat & air control connected, along with two PC's and & a laser printer connected via Cat6. Only time I ever have any problems... is when there's no power due to heavy thunderstorms in the area. Once power is restored, I'm back online in less than a minute. One of these days, I'm gonna have ta get a new battery backup so I can still get online with my laptop while power is out....

With my file server connected & running 4x 120GB SATA III SSD's in RAID-0, I'm able to download songs & photos from my server to my laptop at full 866Mbps which is the maximum speed of my wireless card. From server to my gaming PC via Cat6, I'm hitting full gigabit speeds.

1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Fast speeds on occasion.

Cons: Speeds my vary. I'm constantly having issues connecting to my router. The app's for android worked at first but not any more. The router is a pain to configure and does not work most of the time. Junk

1 out of 5 eggsWorst Product

Pros: None

Cons: Too Many to describe. Keeps failing signal, no tech support at all. Cisco is worst compant to deal with and their products suck.

Other Thoughts: Never buy any Linksys products!

4 out of 5 eggsExcellent router once you get DD-WRT on it

Pros: Once you install a good stable version of DD-WRT on it, it's a fantastic router with excellent speed, stability and range.

Cons: I have this one and the EA6400, and they both suffer from the same problem. Poorly designed firmware. I tried HARD to get either router to let me set up two FTP servers from my house, and it simply wouldn't work. I could get one but not the other. Changed the settings around and I could get the other, but not the one. Went through numerous attempts trying different NAS FTP settings, different port redirects, IP redirects. I even tried changing the NAS devices from static IPs outside of the DHCP pool to being inside the DHCP pool with DCHP reservations. I also wore out the Linksys forum. They couldn't figure out why it wouldn't work, but I think one or two of them blamed my NAS FTP. (Still I appreciate their attempts to help) Could not get both FTP servers working on it. I knew it should work as I used to have a Netgear WNDR3700 (which a storm killed) with DD-WRT on it and it worked quite well.

Once I put a good, stable version of DD-WRT on it, both FTPs set up easily and worked perfectly... AS IT SHOULD!

The stock firmware is probably fine for 90% of the people who buy this router. But if you want to do anything interesting with it, get an open source firmware like DD-WRT on it.

Other Thoughts: This router is a Cisco Linksys product. Once Belkin bought Linksys, the support hasn't felt like they're as interested in solving problems with these units. They're more into supporting their Belkin/Linksys products.

Since there is no open source firmware for the EA6400, I'll probably see if it performs okay as a wireless bridge at some point when I have time.

2 out of 5 eggsCan't take it anymore

Pros: It works sometimes

Cons: Every time there is a power failure it takes me at least a hour to get this thing to come back online. I have owned several routers and for the money spent this really should be a better quality product. It's sad when a 3 year old 45$ router out preforms this thing.

I generally don't write reviews especially for something I have owned this long but I just can't take it anymore with this piece of junk.

Other Thoughts: Find something else to spend your money on.

Manufacturer Response:

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this junk

Pros: Work when it did

Cons: Constantly dropping connections. Wired and Wireless.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy anything from this copy. I purchased the original unit Apr of 13 and the problems started right from the start. The unit never powered on and when I sent it back got a refurbished model. Wonderful, now I have someone else's junk. That unit lasted until October. Then would start dropping connections and had to constantly keep resetting and doing factory resets. Well as of last week here we go again. Was able to do a firmware update and then the problems got worse. Spent 2 hrs on the phone with tech support for them to tell me what I already know. Now they dump me over to customer service for them to tell me in 5 min that they are not replacing and because the warranty is from the original date of purchase and the warranty on the replacement from October is only 30 days. Great support from what used to be a great company. The router I had previously lasted almost 6 years. Do yourself a favor keep away from these units and go buy somewhere else. Linksys loosely translated means we sell junk. I now have a $200 paper weight. Thanks Linksys for selling quality junk.
