1 out of 5 eggsMy how the mighty have fallen...

Pros: Average to above-average 2.4 Ghz signal strength.

Cons: -DHCP is rocky. Sometimes assigns conflicting addresses!
-5Ghz band has tiny usable range.
-Unstable with IPv6 enabled.
-"Media Prioritization", their version of QoS, doesn't work at all
-Runs hot

Most importantly: Wireless network uptime is incredibly intermittent and unreliable. I constantly have to reboot the router if there is more than one computer connected to it.

4 out of 5 eggsNice Router

Pros: Fast speed on wireless N band.

Gigabit LAN ports.

Very easy to configure through a PC web browser.

Supports future devices with wireless AC band and 5GHz.

Has USB 3.0 and 2.0 jacks for printers and storage devices.

Firmware updates automatically overnight when available, so you never need to even think about it.

Cons: The G band seemed slower than my old E2000 router, so I ended up daisy chaining my old router to the new one and set it as a AP for the G band, it runs more than twice as fast on G and now I have a triple band network with N and 5ghz AC / N on the EA6500.

The range of the 5GHz band is about 1/4th of the 2.4Ghz band, in my basement I get 4 out of 5 bars on 2.4ghz and barely one bar on 5Ghz.

My Nook tablet was not able to configure the router through a web browser.

I have a Roku2, Nook HD+, Kindle Fire, and 2 laptops and only one laptop was able to run on the 5GHz band, all the other devices did not support it, not really a fault of the router, I just thought more devices would support 5GHz.

There are no indicator lights on front of the router like the old ones had.

Beam forming is a nice feature but it only works with wireless AC and nothing that I know of uses AC unless you buy an extra adaptor for each device.

Strange wall mount holes only allow for a sideways wall mount.

Other Thoughts: Be aware that there are 2 versions of this router with the same name (EA6500). The newer version 2 is much better with a faster processor, twice as much RAM and USB 3.0 support. Also remember that an average internet connection is around 15MB / sec so your speed will not be more than that unless you are transferring files within your own home network.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jason,

We greatly appreciate the time you spent in sharing your valuable feedback on the Linksys EA6500. It appears that you are having a challenge with the wireless connection. Relocating the devices and adjusting the router's wireless channel could be of great help. Recommended channels for 2.4 GHz are 6, 11, and 1. Choose the one that best suits your network. Try channel 161 or 157 for the 5 GHz band. Let us know if you need assistance. You can reach us at LinksysCares@linksys.com anytime.

1 out of 5 eggsGreat, But useless for me.

Pros: This product is fantastic in almost every way, the 5Ghz is especially fantastic giving me 100+mbps down-stream to my mobile devices, and the GUI is intuitive.

Cons: No NAT-Loopback feature

Other Thoughts: Useless product for me, I cannot hold it against Linksys specifically but when paying $150+ for a product you expect features, features that this product did not supply, As a web-host it is incredibly important to have a feature known as "NAT-Loopback" allowing internal access from your outward facing (WAN) IP address, something this product and all other AC routers I have tried do not allow... for "Security" reasons... it is ridiculous to not include it as a option on new equipment

Let us professionals have an option to manage our own security loopholes instead of shutting important doors in our face.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Jeffery,

We appreciate your time in reviewing our product and providing your detailed feedback. Your suggestion about the NAT loopback has been taken and we'll have this relayed to the relevant team. Feel free to contact us at LinksysCares@linksys.com for questions, suggestions, or Linksys assistance. Please include your contact details and the link to this review for reference.

4 out of 5 eggsAwesome the App just stinks

Pros: This is an upgrade to a 802.11 N dual band Belkin that had gone dumb from firmware updates and in comparison to that, this router is fast, quick to respond and the best signal I've seen to date.

To give an example on the signal strength I still get signal at the end of my driveway and almost in the street and that's through a brick house and a steel car via the 5ghz ( less wall penetrating ) band.

The routers webpage via desktop is very easy to use. Was able to turn off broadcasting SSID ( someone wrote that they couldn't but you can via desktop )

Cons: This is where the first egg cracked....

Initially I was using the iOS smart wifi app since the routers webpage was not supported via safari. Everything seemed okay, changed my SSID and password, wanted to disable SSID broadcast but the option was not on the app version ( it is on the desktop version ) settings saved and phone and pc connected just fine however when I restarted the router to test that the settings stuck.... The phone nor my desktop PC could reconnect to the router.
Claimed that the password was incorrect. Went through this process three times via hard reset and same results. Thought all was lost but I ended up going on the PC and using the desktop webpage and since the experience has been flawless.

Other Thoughts: Got it for 45% it's original price so it was a deal.

1 out of 5 eggsDo NOT BUY!

Pros: It works great on the 5gig network(AC) which only the newest phones and computers are equipped to pick up the signal. (Even new computers/laptops don't have the new wifi card in them)

Cons: Everything, this router is awful in every way the signal is horrible the speed is decreased to dial with this. Do not buy this horrible router.

Customer service is horrible and you have to pay 30 bucks to have them help you.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We appreciate the time you spent in providing us your feedback. We'd like to provide you some tips that can enhance your wireless connectivity. Changing the wireless channel of the router can enhance the speed and range of the wifi connection. Access the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi > Go to Wireless > click 'Edit' for the 2.4 GHz network > test channels 1, 3, 6, and 11.

Updating the firmware of the router will also help. Visit this link for instructions: http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=d2d5c9da8e68439883b85a9cf72bf7e5_How_to_upgrade_the_router_s_firmware_using_Cisco_Connect_Clo.xml&pid=80&respid=0&snid=3&dispid=0&cpage=search

Pros: Was easy to set up and had great speeds

Cons: Device updated firmware and now will not start up and just keep blinking the cisco logo, no wifi, no ethernet no menu options and reset is useless

Other Thoughts: Have been loyal with linksys routers sine my wireless b router

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Raymond,

Apologies for the inconvenience. Please allow us to assist you in resolving the challenges that you're experiencing with the router. How many seconds did press the reset button on the router? 1 out of 5 eggsLinksys EA6500

Pros: It worked for about three months without any issues.

Cons: Intermittent loss of wireless connectivity every day or every other day for unknown reasons. Wired connections work fine. Firmware is updated and Linksys support is worthless unless you need help with the reset process.
My old WRT54G works flawlessly but cann't keep up with my ISP's download speed. I've gone through two router upgrades since the WRT54G and neither was dependable after 6-months and both required constant resets to reestablish wireless connections. This is a bad trend for Linksys. Go with another brand name.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi,

We appreciate your time for sharing your experience with us. Allow us to check into the situation.

The challenge could be due to wireless interferences like physical obstructions or the distance of the wireless devices from the router. Try changing the wireless channel of the router to 1, 6,9 or 11. Save the changes you made and reboot the router.

Let us know the result by sending us an email at LinksysCares@linksys.com, indicating your name, contact details, location and the link to this post. We're hoping to hear from you.

Sincerely,

Linksys Support

5 out of 5 eggsBest Router I've Owned

Pros: Two USB ports for external device connection
Excellent range with no dropouts under 50ft.
Fast
Fast
Fast
Fast
and did I mention FAST

Cons: USB ports are only 2.0, not 3.0
Has a bit of a learning curve to it.

Other Thoughts: Purchased along with my laptop which has an Intel Wireless AC 7260 card in it.

Despite using Linksys wireless routers for the past 8 years, this one came with a bit of a learning curve that I did not face with previous models, partly due to the new web interface.

Once learned, this router is very simple to manage & to connect new devices.

For the past year, I've had my Android phone, iPad, laptop, wireless printer, and wireless central heat & air control connected, along with two PC's and & a laser printer connected via Cat6. Only time I ever have any problems... is when there's no power due to heavy thunderstorms in the area. Once power is restored, I'm back online in less than a minute. One of these days, I'm gonna have ta get a new battery backup so I can still get online with my laptop while power is out....

With my file server connected & running 4x 120GB SATA III SSD's in RAID-0, I'm able to download songs & photos from my server to my laptop at full 866Mbps which is the maximum speed of my wireless card. From server to my gaming PC via Cat6, I'm hitting full gigabit speeds.
