2 out of 5 eggsShould have bought from Newegg

Pros: It has 8 ports plus a USB printer port! Detachable antennas! I covetted this for a long time!

Cons: Sadly, mine worked for 15 seconds and after I reset it to factory defaults, it died. It shows blinking lights but doesn't transmit any packets and no WiFI signal transmission at all. It's dead. This was a factory refurb from another vendor and I regret not buying it new from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what to do with them except send it back. I'd like to buy one new from Newegg. It's a tossup but with all of the bad reviews on here over this device, people may want to wait until Dlink hammers our the bugs.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up. FIRE HAZARD!!! SEE VIDEO!

Pros: Worked ok for 13 months (1 month out of warranty) then the troubles started

Cons: Started having trouble with this router one month out of warranty. Wifi would drop out every few minutes and take a few minutes to reconnect. Wired connections started slowing down a couple of weeks ago. Tonight, my wife and I smelled a hot electronics smell and had trouble finding it, at first. Thought it was our new modem getting a little warm. We were wrong. 10 minutes later, I was in the middle of connecting an ethernet cable to a new tv and the tv wouldn't recognize a connection. I thought, that piece of junk router needs reset again. Went to my office, were it is kept, and smoke was pouring out of it. I quickly unplugged it and took it outside. The smoke smell is horrible in our house now. I grabbed my cell phone and got a video of it and will be posting it anywhere and everywhere I can find (check my video review). I have never in my life heard of a router going up in smoke like this thing did. If we hadn't been home it could have been very, very bad.

Other Thoughts: Keep a fire extinguisher close by if you're brave enough to own a D-Link product. Newegg won't let me upload the video for some reason even though it's within guidlines and proper format....Check youtube.

1 out of 5 eggsI never trusted Dlink products

Pros: Pretty easy set up.
Wifi reach/coverage good when it worked.

Cons: Lasted 91 days and then quit working.

Other Thoughts: The tech we had come diagnose our sudden lack of internet said it had failed and might need a firmware update. Unfortunately there is no update for this unit. The extended warranty was a waste and the factory warranty for the software expired already so I have a piece of electronics to recycle now.

1 out of 5 eggsDoomed to fail

Pros: 8 ports

Cons: Dies after a year

Other Thoughts: I hate D-Link because everything I've ever bought from them fails, but this was the only WAP I could find with more than 4 ethernet ports, so I gave it a shot and bought two. A year later, neither of them will run for more than a couple of days without locking up.

2 out of 5 eggsFollow Up Review

Pros: See previous post

Cons: For the entire time I've owned this router, I've never used it for DHCP. I've just had it as a wireless access point.

I recently went to actually use it as a regular router (DD-WRT is installed) and the WAN port does not work. Does not light up the LED on either the router or the link led on my modem. Took me a bit to figure out that was the problem after reboots and swapping of cables etc.

Other Thoughts: I can't knock this router completely as its possible DD-WRT may have faulted the WAN port.

Otherwise, it works very good as a wireless access point right now.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks fine with DD-WRT

Pros: Works perfectly with DD-WRT.
Has 8 ports!
Much faster than my old Lyksys.
Good range
Great price and Newegg shipping!

Cons: none so far

Other Thoughts: After reading the reviews I decided to but this router and install DD-WRT. The installation was easy.

1 out of 5 eggsDied a month out of warranty

Pros: Cheap. 8 ports. Good range. Easy custom setup.

Cons: 13 months old and having trouble with the wi-fi. Internet connection drops out constantly, about once a minute, then about 20-30 seconds to reconnect. All wired ports are ok, but I bought it for both. Not happy. No more D-Link junk for me.

1 out of 5 eggsNEVER AGAIN !!!

Pros: When it worked, it was good

Cons: Died after only 2 months

Other Thoughts: The reason for my 1 egg rating is partially because the unit died after only 2 months, but it is mainly due to D-Link’s Tech Support … After being on the phone for an hour and a half with tech support (I do IT for a living, at the beginning of our call I listed all of the steps I had already taken in an attempt to resolve the problem … they told me they were the professionals and I needed to follow their instructions)… anyway, after an hour and a half they reluctantly gave me an RMA. Here is why the 1 egg rating …. I had to pay to ship their broken item back and they required me to include the CD (manual and drivers) and the Ethernet cable … and, if they weren’t included I had to pay $10 for the Ethernet cable and $12 for the CD … REALLY ?!?!? what happened to “I am sorry sir that our product broke, please accept our apologies and let us send you a replacement” … never again will I purchase a D-Link product … all due to their tech support.

1 out of 5 eggsToo much maintenance

Pros: 8 LAN ports and nice web based setup

Cons: Reliability. I can't stress enough that this router is completely unreliable. Every 2-3 weeks it drops connectivity and I need to go to the basement, unplug it, and plug it back in. All is then well, for another 2-3 weeks. If we're out of town and it drops, well, then we've lost all connectivity to our home: automation, remote access to pictures and work data, etc. It's just not reliable, and I've had enough of having to fix the thing at inconvenient times. I loved the 8 ports, but it's not worth it. I'm going to toss this wreck and buy something else, and for darn sure it will not be a D-Link product.

Other Thoughts: This was the only wireless router with 8 ports that Newegg sells, so I guess I'll have to live with 4 ports and a switch in my new setup, whatever that turns out to be.
