2 out of 5 eggsFrequent Failures to Communicate

Pros: Eight RJ45 ports, sleek design, function well when they are functioning.

Cons: My network consists of only desktop and laptop PCs.

I have two of these routers. Both have to be recycled at least once and sometimes twice per day due to loss of communication between devices. Not always but sometimes the internet connectivity is lost as well. I think after several months of frustration I'm going to replace these and give these to someone I don't like.

Manufacturer Response:

We appreciate your feedback and value it very much. Make sure you have downloaded and installed the latest firmware version (1.03) from www.support.dlink.com. Also make sure your router placed away from any objects that can interfere with its electromagnetic signal. This includes metal filing cabinets, microwaves, telephones, and televisions. If your connection issues persist, perhaps D-Link technical support can help you with your issue. Contact them at www.dlink.com/support. We thank you for choosing D-Link.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't buy this product

Pros: 8 port switch

Cons: In less than a year, the wireless signal started dropping out constantly. Even after a firmware update, the issue persists. I see that many others are having this problem as well.

2 out of 5 eggsDisappointed

Pros: When it worked, it did an ok job of providing for my net needs.

Cons: Within 3 months of purchase - the unit was dropping all signal on average once a week.
Rebooting didn't always resolve the issue, had to be reset more times than should be necessary.

Didn't come close to providing the quality signal to my cellphones that I now have with a different brand.

5 out of 5 eggsDon't waste your time with default firmware

Pros: 8 port internal switch while most come with 4
Super simple to flash DD-WRT
Very reliable with DD-WRT
USB storage or printer support

Cons: Stock firmware garbage. Flash with DD-WRT as soon as you can for the best experience
Only 10/100 ethernet ports
Doesn't include stand for vertical orientation.

Other Thoughts: This router is excellent, with one caveat. You need to install DD-WRT firmware to make it excellent. Luckily it is easy as pie to do so through the default firmwares firmware update page. 8 Port switch is a nice change from the norm, and USB support is a nice plus.

1 out of 5 eggsDon't Buy

Pros: Wired connections work with a lot of ports.

Cons: Wireless stopped working correctly after 9 months. Have to reboot the switch every day.

Other Thoughts: Had to reset switch after 3 months. Internet just stopped working. Had to reset to factory settings. Have done this at least four times and now the wireless just goes out. Maybe it will last 24 hours.

5 out of 5 eggs8 Port Router

Pros: Eight ports, enough for all my network devices.

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: Upgraded firmware to DD-WRT and this thing has been chugging solidly for the last 8 months. So far so good.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing! DD-WRT or BUST!

Pros: -Installed DD-WRT right away.
-Let me use the USB port as an FTP server.
-Stable and reliable
-Have owned for almost 2 years now and have only reset it 3 times (mostly power outages or turning out the internet was down for the whole block and it was not the devices fault).

Cons: No Gigabit Ethernet, but I was able to fix that with a cheap $15 4 port switch.

I do not recommend using the pre-installed firmware that comes with this unit. I found it to be badly designed and executed... and the way it wants you to setup a USB device is just stupid. With DD-WRT installed the usb works with no setup or special formating/programs.

Other Thoughts: Do yourself a favor and download the free open source DD-WRT firmware for this router... it will make this thing into a truly reliable and stable BEAST.

1 out of 5 eggs

Pros: I get lot's of exercise by owning this router by having to restart it 3 times a day.

Cons: Router has to be reset at least 3 times a day.....which is a big issue in our small office.

Other Thoughts: Don't know if it just my router or what, I like the D-link DIR-615 that i had, really no problems, worked better than any other router I had. I wanted 8 ports on my router so I didn't have to run any of our office computer through a switch, which is why I bought this router, the DIR-632, thinking it would run just as good as my 615 but with 8 ports so no rerouting lag through a switch which I'm experience in my office with a few computers...... good idea in theory, but the one I purchased I have to reset it every day, several times a day and that's just not going to work!

2 out of 5 eggsShould have bought from Newegg

Pros: It has 8 ports plus a USB printer port! Detachable antennas! I covetted this for a long time!

Cons: Sadly, mine worked for 15 seconds and after I reset it to factory defaults, it died. It shows blinking lights but doesn't transmit any packets and no WiFI signal transmission at all. It's dead. This was a factory refurb from another vendor and I regret not buying it new from Newegg.

Other Thoughts: I'm not sure what to do with them except send it back. I'd like to buy one new from Newegg. It's a tossup but with all of the bad reviews on here over this device, people may want to wait until Dlink hammers our the bugs.

1 out of 5 eggsFollow up. FIRE HAZARD!!! SEE VIDEO!

Pros: Worked ok for 13 months (1 month out of warranty) then the troubles started

Cons: Started having trouble with this router one month out of warranty. Wifi would drop out every few minutes and take a few minutes to reconnect. Wired connections started slowing down a couple of weeks ago. Tonight, my wife and I smelled a hot electronics smell and had trouble finding it, at first. Thought it was our new modem getting a little warm. We were wrong. 10 minutes later, I was in the middle of connecting an ethernet cable to a new tv and the tv wouldn't recognize a connection. I thought, that piece of junk router needs reset again. Went to my office, were it is kept, and smoke was pouring out of it. I quickly unplugged it and took it outside. The smoke smell is horrible in our house now. I grabbed my cell phone and got a video of it and will be posting it anywhere and everywhere I can find (check my video review). I have never in my life heard of a router going up in smoke like this thing did. If we hadn't been home it could have been very, very bad.

Other Thoughts: Keep a fire extinguisher close by if you're brave enough to own a D-Link product. Newegg won't let me upload the video for some reason even though it's within guidlines and proper format....Check youtube.
