5 out of 5 eggsExcellent, reliable Smart Switch

Pros: Reliable, solid, consistent performance

Cons: None

Other Thoughts: DLINK switches have won me over in the past seven years, and this model has worked flawlessly thus far. They also have the best warranty coverage. It's a great solution for a small office network.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat quality switch

Pros: This is a great quality switch. Not the cheapest or the most expensive, but definitely the best value for a 48 port gigabit switch. I really don't use most of the features, but it is nice that they are available. I have had this for a year and had absolutely no problems. Works great with the various other switches I have from different manufacturers(TP-Link, Netgear, Cisco, Linksys). The line between two of our buildings got struck by lightning and fried quite a bit of our hardware, but the only damage it did to this unit was knock out the port that it was plugged into. All the other 47 ports on this switch continue to function fine.

Cons: Make sure you check which firmware version you have before putting it into production. I currently don't have (or need) the latest release, but when first got it I had to upgrade to fix an issue.

Other Thoughts: Not the cheapest or the most expensive, but definitely the best value for a 48 port gigabit switch.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent device!

Pros: This is a great switch at that price. We have 6 of them and use many advanced features.
At first, as with all DLink switches, I didn't like the explicit "Save Configuration" feature. But now I think this is a marvelous idea since it enables you to undo catastrophic config changes (like locking yourself out, etc) by powercycling the switch rather than resetting it to defaults.

Cons: The DLink product registration website is a catastrophy, although customer support was eager to help with the problems.

5 out of 5 eggsGreat Switch, not silent

Pros: It does what its supposed to do.

I decided to go with this switch as opposed to the Cisco since this was $80 cheaper (at time of purchase), includes snmp (which i don't use but is nice to have), and the description mentioned the fans are set to low by default.

Cons: I own two D-Link green 16 port switches and they are silent. I knew this one had fans but I thought they would be silent at low speed. but they are a bit louder than your typical PC running at idle.

I understand this is probably unavoidable on a switch this size so I didn't deduct any eggs for it - but I thought it is worth mentioning to other potential buyers.

Other Thoughts: Other thing is that it comes out of the box with a 10.90.90.90 IP with a class A subnet mask. This probably won't be a problem for network admins in a business environment but worth noting if you want to be able to login to the switch.
