3 out of 5 eggsSo far so good...but the jury is still out...

This review is from: D-Link 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch

Pros: This was a priced decently for my home network. i have been using everyday and so far, its good, however I have begun to get the (network cable has been unplugged error) recently.

Cons: I've begun to get the ethernet cable has been unplugged error, however nobody is anywhere near the equipment.

Other Thoughts: I'm starting to think that these are not designed to last a year. I've had other brands and had the same problem. Which is why I bought this unit.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat 16 Gigabit Switch

This review is from: D-Link 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch

Pros: It has 16 ports and got it for a got it for $60 with newegg promo. Can't beat the performance for that price. It does exactly what it's meant to do. Haven't tested all ports but the ones I have plugged up seem to be working great and in full Gigabit. I also like that the ports are in the back and LED lights are in the front. Another good thing is the LED's will either be green or red/orange depending on the connection. Green for 1000 and red/orange for 100. Very easy to set up.

Cons: The only problem I have is with the fact that it has a slight slope or slant on the top making it more difficult to place something else on it. I knew this when buying it though it isn't a big deal breaker for me especially for the price.

Other Thoughts: I would gladly purchase another one if it was needed. Hopefully it lasts for a long time. So far so good. I would recommend this switch if you aren't too bothered with it not being rack mountable.

5 out of 5 eggsExcellent SOHO Gigabit Switch

This review is from: D-Link 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch

Pros: This switch was easy to set up, in fact it was set and forget which is exactly as it's supposed to be with an unmanaged switch. One huge pro of this specific model is that compared to most other 16 port switches it's very compact. It only took slightly more space (about a half inch taller and an inch or so wider) than the 8 port Netgear switch it replaced.

Cons: The ports are plastic instead of the usual metal. This is mostly a non issue other than when using a shielded cable.

Other Thoughts: I always had good luck with D-Link switches being very reliable. Previously I used a lot of Netgear switches and it seems like a monthly occurrence that one would fail on me. So I replaced them all with D-Link switches. I have yet to have a single one of my D-Link switches fail even after being in service for years and so far this latest addition is working perfectly.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great

This review is from: D-Link 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch

Pros: Cheap 16 Port Gigabit Switch. I'm getting great transfer speeds.

Cons: As previous review mentioned this unit slopes from back to front on top which is unusual and makes stacking things on top of it challenging.

3 out of 5 eggsBad Design

This review is from: D-Link 16-Port Unmanaged Gigabit Switch

Pros: It's a 16 port unmanaged gigabyte switch that isn't a rack mount.

Cons: Bad design for a desktop item. The design is made in a deliberate slop of about 35 degrees. I'm all for fancy but when the device needs to stack other equipment it shouldn't be angled so it needs it's own space.

Other Thoughts: Listen up networking professionals who design networking equipment. The devices should be about utility > looks. In this case this device was made for a desktop environment not a rack mount. The ports are on the back. This is why I bought this switch. These should be designed to stack other routers above them.

I had to use Sugaru (TM) to make standoffs for my Linksys WRT54GL where the LS 16/100 desktop switch stacked natively.
