5 out of 5 eggsPerfect Units w/ Small Learning Curve

Pros: These units are easy to unpack, mount, and power. If you don't know the providence of the fibre optic cabling that you are using they can be a tad difficult to get that first connection going.

If you know which strands go where and they are appropriately color coded, then these units can be out of the box and running in less than five minutes!

Cons: None that I have found so far. We currently employ 20 of them to run 6 out buildings.

Other Thoughts: If you know you only need 10/100, buy these. They are a great value for money.

5 out of 5 eggsVery solid, very reliable; no issues.

Pros: I've had a pair running with a 30 meter fiber cable for about 18 months without more than a couple hours of downtime; no problems, no issues. Any of the rare network issues I have are _not_ related to these; my firewall apparently needs a reboot about once a year, and the cable-modem about twice a year.

Cons: Not the cheapest.

Other Thoughts: These replaced a 10BaseT pair of TRENDnet fiber converters after significant speed improvements; the prior pair had been in operation for over half a decade, also without any problems.

I put my Internet cablemodem/DSL modem, one APC UPS, and one fiber transciever together on one side of the house, and use these to optically isolate the rest of my network; any surge coming through the WAN link to my internet provider (say, a lightning strike) can at most wipe out the modem, UPS, and one transciever; electricity doesn't travel through fiber cable.

Everything else has copper to each other, and copper to UPS's to protect them from surges; these protect me from cable/DSL surges.

5 out of 5 eggsWorking awesome!

Pros: No switches to set, just plug and play

Cons: Wish they made a hardened version for cold environs

Other Thoughts: I have 6 of these linking up various houses for a property I maintain with CCTV cameras. The cameras a 3 megapixel running a full 15fps, so, these media converters are getting slammed 24/7. Haven't had to power cycle a single one. One of them is in an unheated pole barn and it's about 14F now, wondering if it will make it over the winter? I rolled the dice for now, as I have a spare.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems after five years

Pros: - Absolutely no maintenance; reliable.
- Same unit as discrete or used in rack chassis.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: I have used half a dozen of these for almost five years, and unlike a lot of others, I have _never_ had to reset these, and I have never had any problems with them, whatsoever. Even the Cisco switches they are attached to cannot be spoken for in that manner.

5 out of 5 eggsCompetitve price

Pros: Shopped around, wasn't worried about brand, this unit had a great price that was unbeatable anywhere else at the time. Once again, NewEgg was the best vendor for the product.

Cons: None.

5 out of 5 eggsCheap, reliable -- perfect!

Pros: I have one of these in production for over 2 years with narry a problem, connecting to an old BayStack 350F at the other end, about 1500 feet of fiber away.

Cons: none.

Other Thoughts: I cannot recommend this more highly.

5 out of 5 eggsNo problems

Pros: I've had a pair of these running for over a year and not one hiccup. One is in a non air conditioned steel building providing a link to a radio tower. Last summer we had temps over 107 degrees a few days and no problems. I had another brand of converter die recently in a much milder climate. I replaced both with two more of these.

Cons: No mounting bracket.
