1 out of 5 eggsProblematic

Pros: price was good.

Cons: inconsistant. I purchased 3 of these with the intent of setting up 1 in my basement, 1 on the first floor, and 1 on the second floor to insure I had maximum signal strength no matter where I went in my home. I had issues from the start. I tried all kinds of configurations but they kept interfering with one another. I tried getting each one on a different channel and named each hotspot with a different name, tried putting them all on the same name and same channel and many other combos. Nothing worked. Kept losing connection.

Then i finally gave up and only set up 1 hotspot. Worked for a while and then I started having connection issues. All my devices started losing connection and then reconnecting. Over and over. So I finally swapped it out witth one of the other ones I had lying around from my previous failed attempt at using all 3 at the same time. That one worked for about 6 weeks and now it is doing the same thing as the other one. I swear the 3rd one is DOA. It never worked right at all.

Other Thoughts: I would not buy these at all unless you like endless troubleshooting and problems. This product is just terrible. makes me afraid to buy anything from them at all.

I love Newegg but this time I am disappointed in this product. I imagine these are still under warranty as the warranty is 3 years but not sure what good it would do to get a replacement as they would probably do the same thing.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsspeeds ok, not great

Pros: easy to configure, worked, mostly..

Cons: even with great signal and 10 ft from the router, the speed throughput on this was not very good (about 7mbps tops)

Other Thoughts: it was usable, and stable, but the speed wasn't very good.

Manufacturer Response:

Valued customer,

4 out of 5 eggsFor the price, it's a great little AP

Pros: *Good Price
*Small size
*300Mbps
*WDS support (have not tested yet, see other comments)

Cons: *No user replaceable antennas (for better coverage, etc.)
*Trendnet isn't kicking me back a couple more for leaving a nice review.

Other Thoughts: I have looked into trying to set up WDS, however my base router has DD-WRT on it, and the settings don't quite match up. I'm pretty sure I could figure it out, but haven't had the time, or need (I have this connected to a ethernet cable anyway), but I would like to try it to see if it works as advertised, and so I can rip out a few ethernet cables in my house.

I did have a problem a while back, and was going to give this thing one star. For a while, I could not connect to the device using any N device. I pulled my hair out, trying to figure out what it was. Finally I figured it out. Encryption was set to a method that my devices werent (AP set to TKIP, devices set to AES) once fixed, I am conecting again at 300Mbps. The range is fairly decent. within ~20 feet I connect around 200-260Mbps, downstairs in a 2000 sq ft house, I get around 135-160Mbps. Overall a decent product, though it could probably be designed a little better (firmware) with more options.

4 out of 5 eggsUpdate to previous review from 2/18/12

Pros: Works as advertised in AP client mode, although only at 100Mb/s due to not offering a gigabit ethernet port. Repeater mode SSID security now works with WPA/WPA2 using firmware v3.0.1.0 (1/27/2012).

Cons: 100Mb/s ethernet port. Shipped firmware did not provide advertised features. Had to wait four months for working firmware.

Other Thoughts: I wish you could update prior Newegg reviews. A few days after posting my last review for this product, TrendNet suddenly had the corrected firmware ready to go. Coincidence? ;)

1 out of 5 eggsDoes not work in repeater mode with WPA security

Pros: Works as advertised in AP client mode, although only at 100Mb/s due to not offering a gigabit ethernet port.

Cons: Does not work as advertised as a wireless repeater, especially if you need WPA/WPA2 security. It will repeat your SSID as an additional SSID (not ideal) with NO security enabled. I have had Trendnet support ticket #96036 opened for FOUR MONTHS now, and they have confirmed the issue but provided no resolution. They would not even offer me a different product or a refund. That is unacceptable to me.

Other Thoughts: I have been using Trendnet ethernet products for almost fourteen years now, and this is my first disappointment. I felt the product did not go through QA properly, and I'm also disappointment at how I was treated as a customer by their support staff. As I said, my ticket is still open four months later without resolution, or even the offer of an RMA for a known working Trendnet AP repeater.

Manufacturer Response:

3 out of 5 eggsSomewhat Unstable, Speeds not great

Pros: At first I used this as a wifi bridge with my main router on the floor directly above it (probably about 10 feet in a straight line up). The connection never went above 17mb but it was solid. After about 6 months I was able to run a wire to that computer and no longer needed the access point there so I used it as the main AP for the house so I could use my new gigabit router which had very bad wifi. In this function it didn't do very well, i'd get spikes of speed up to 65mb but then it would drop down to 1mb or disappear and need to be rebooted or even deleted/re-joined. Also it has a 100mb ethernet port so you will never get 300mb out of it.

Cons: Unstable, slow, 100mb port limits speed.

Other Thoughts: This product was a great idea and a good price but maybe they should have put more R&D in it and raised the price so it could be a better product.

4 out of 5 eggsWorks fantastic..great service

Pros: Simple design
Using as Client Access Point - It just works!

Cons: Setup is not necessarily a slam dunk out of the box. I had to go into the native setup screen by altering my Ethernet's adapters settings.

Other Thoughts: When changing my wireless security to WPA (from WEP), I discovered the unit wouldn't "remember" the new settings after removing the power to move it. Customer support ultimately gave me an RMA and I got a brand new unit that works great now after over 2 years of using the prior unit!

5 out of 5 eggsNice flexible AP/Bridge.

Pros: I have two of these setup in a WDS bridge between my router and my living switch. Everything was relatively easy to setup as long as you have an attention to detail since every setting must match between both to work like this. It even allows for WPA2 encryption for the WDS bridge which I've heard is not common.

Cons: Documentation could be a bit better. One of these will not allow you to create a wireless bridge unless you have another AP on the other end that supports WDS. You can however setup a wireless link for a single device with only an Ethernet port.

1 out of 5 eggsDo not buy

Pros: It's black?

Cons: This thing sucks. It doesn't do the one thing it's designed to do: extend your wireless network. Even paired with a trendnet router, it fails. If you manage to get it up and running (highly unlikely), you'll then face spotty connectivity. Network devices can't decide whether to connect to the router or the AP and it all just ends up sucking.

Other Thoughts: Don't buy.

3 out of 5 eggsGood when it's working

Pros: Good Range, Good Speed, looks cool

Cons: 100mb port, you will never hit N's limit of 300mbps because you would be limited by this device's 100mb ethernet port. Maybe if you were going from/to another wifi device off this AP then maybe.

Unstable, this thing is not solid and its not just bouncing and coming back up, it will work great for weeks then disconnect and refuse to re-connect until i get into it and remove/rebuild the whole wifi config again, and even then with the same settings it won't work, i have to remove/rebuild over and over and eventually it will connect. I regularly work with wifi for business so I don't think I'm missing something (although possible) but according to reviews i'm thinking this isn't a great device.

Other Thoughts: I forgot to test it in the same room as my router, but at the opposite end of the house, through one floor and several walls, where my normal wifi adapters would only see 1 bar from the router, this thing sees 80% signal and does a good 17mbps steady. Not great but given the placement in the house i'm happy with that.
