2 out of 5 eggsWorked fine at First but only 4 months later...

Pros: Works like a USB adapter SHOULD work….

Cons: Only worked like a USB adapter SHOULD work for 4 months….

Other Thoughts: I've had this for 4 months. I had no speed issues while gaming (which I do a lot of). Noticed a month or two ago that I started dropping the connection to my router every once in a while. No big deal, that happens sometimes right? Well, now it drops every 10 mins, and takes over 5 minutes or me restarting my computer to even get it to start working again. I'm sure since I've had it for all of 4 months that I can't return it anymore, except to manufacturer to get a new one… Which is like asking for another hole in my head. Would like a refund not another product that will last 4 more months, if I'm lucky. Regardless…. I am now purchasing an actual PCI-E card and not from TRENDnet. If you use the internet pretty regularly I would not recommend this product. If your just using it for an occasional business trip, then you might be ok.

4 out of 5 eggsGreat USB Drive

Pros: The wireless adapter does not have any external antennas which is fantastic for throwing inside of a laptop bag.

Reliable in the short use that I have gotten with it. Have not had any disconnect, or quality of service issues from the adapter.

Dual band connects fine, no special settings required to enable this for me.

Software is very user friendly, has the ability to store additional wireless profiles inside of the software. This is great if you are not a fan of Microsoft's connection manager.

Cons: Being that it is USB without an antenna, its range is not as impressive as one with an antenna.

Device got fairly hot after prolonged use. I work at home and the device is on for at least 8-10 hours a day. With that being said, using the dongle provided in the package seems to alleviate a lot of the heat.

The shape of it, it is fairly square right off of the USB part, its a little bit finicky to get plugged into my odd shape laptop ports. (the case overlaps a little bit)

Other Thoughts: This is a fantastic USB Drive.

My laptop does not have a dual band adapter internally, so if i'm looking to do larger file transfers over a network, I'll either plug in hardwired, or use this wireless device.

I always carry a spare network adapter whenever going for a computer repair call. It is the easiest way to eliminate possible conflicts with network issues.

5 out of 5 eggsDoes what it does

Pros: Everything about it.

Cons: None whatsoever currently.

Other Thoughts: This adapter does exactly what it was designed for and does it well. Syncs right up to the router on both bands. Decent reception although I have not tried to check out the extent of its coverage..

3 out of 5 eggsDual Band?

Pros: - Compact
- Low Price

Cons: poor connectivity in 5Ghz band.

Other Thoughts: decent connectivity and throughput in 2.4 Ghz band, however 5Ghz connectivity is erratic. Most of the time it won't register on anything in that band despite signal strength of -70dBm.

No information regarding support on their website other than driver and user guide downloads.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Hanson,

Sorry that this product doesn’t meet your expectation on the 5GHz band. Please uninstall and re-install the latest driver via the following link, http://www.trendnet.com/support/supportdetail.asp?prod=185_TEW-664UB, for a possible improvement. Also, I would recommend to test it with a different 5GHz router as well to see if 5GHz is consistently not working. If these still doesn’t help please email me at adrian@trendnet.com with “Newegg TEW-664UB” in the subject line and I can contact you immediately to assist. Hope to have your response soon and to restore your faith in TRENDnet.

Warmest regards,

Adrian

4 out of 5 eggsGood for Price

Pros: Wireless N
Dual Band
Easy setup on both Win XP and Windows 7
Good wireless speeds at short range
Price

Cons: Limited range

Other Thoughts: Purchased two of these at a terrific Newegg price for the church computers. Computers are about 60 feet from the router.

For some reason, I had to use the TRENDnet software to connect on the Win XP machine. Windows wireless would not obtain IP. The included TRENDnet software solved problem.

After connecting, the TRENDnet software showed about 40% signal from 50 feet. For comparison, my laptop showed a signal of 80% in the same room. Tried connection about 70 feet away and wireless was slow with less than 30% signal strength . Tested at home on dual-band router using the 5.0ghz wireless. Worked well but again range was limited as Windows 7 showed signal Good on the second floor and my laptop shows Excellent signal strength.

Bottom line - very good speed and no disconnects from short range 20 ~ 50 feet. Anything over 60 feet was questionable. In all fairness I have found very few USB adapters that have good range with the exception of the USB adapters with external antenna.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks better than all the rest

Pros: Good price for the quality of service it provides.

Cons: Would be great if it was free!

Other Thoughts: I went through 6 other N adapters, some claimed dual band, none of them delivered. With the right setup I have achieved 270 mbps 100% of the time. I have bought 2 more of these. All are working flawlessly.

1 out of 5 eggsThe product worked well

Pros: This adapter allowed me to have speedy internet connectivity in my desktop.

The aesthetic is there, it is a sleek, glossy adapter.

It was quite large, I was glad they included an extension cable.

Cons: This failed after about 4 months, I was hoping it would last for much longer. I've tried to use it with multiple computers but it just stopped working. Windows now registers it as an unidentifiable USB and the LED no longer is lit.

5 out of 5 eggsAmazing!!

Pros: Very strong connection signal compared to Trendnet internal PCI card with 3...yes 3! antennae. Had other issues with some built in wireless adapters and USB adapters (not Trendnet branded). This adapter significantly increased connection strength and distance. I now own 2 and love them!

Cons: none.
