1 out of 5 eggsJunk

Pros: Cheap

Cons: Quit working after 1 year. It now drops connections constantly.

Other Thoughts: I payed $15 dollars for this last year for a new build. I guess in this case I really did get what I payed for. At this point it is practically unusable so I ordered a PCI-E card to replace it. In the mean time I'm using a Netgear WN111v2 that I've had for probably 5 years that still works. Imagine that.

Manufacturer Response:

We are sorry hear that you had an issue with the TEW-649UB. Please email and we will have a support representative assist you. The adapter carries a 3 year limited warranty. Please include a link to this review.

5 out of 5 eggsSome of these reviewers seem overly harsh?

Pros: I bought two of these on a Shell Shocker deal. Both are still working fine for my application months later, and for the price, I paid, I really have no room to complain.

Cons: The range is not amazing, but it nowhere near as bad as others have reported. Shorter range is to be expected with a device this size. If you need better range, then get a physically larger device, or one that can use an external or remote antenna. I wish it was “plug and play” for Windows 7, but the drivers are on the CD, and the software is not required to be installed, so it is not a major deal. I will say the unit does get quite warm, mine is located in a USB port close to an exhaust port for the tower in attempt to gain airflow.

Other Thoughts: Both adapters have not had any issues with connecting to my networks, and staying connected. They connect just as fast as any other wireless devices I have used. I have had no issues with dropping connections or slowdowns. I use my a adapters for streaming and transfers, so I would definatly notice flakiness. I have connected to 54G and N300 networks easily. I had a constant 54 Mbps. on the G, and on the N, it varies by distance from the router.
In my setup, the N 300 router is located in a separate room 25 feet away, and I still get 120-150Mbps consistently, and my adapter is plugged into the back of my desktop too. I can also see the neighboring networks through a concrete firewall with decent strength.

5 out of 5 eggsWorks Great!

Pros: Worked right out of the box. I didn't even use their driver. Windows 8.1 recognized it immediately and installed a driver for it. Of course, when I plugged it in, the PC was already connected to the internet on a wired network connection so it could get the driver.

Trendnet makes really good stuff. I used to think that since they were so competitively priced that they were somehow inferior quality. Not true! I am much happier with the Trendnet equipment that I have used than with the Cisco/Linksys stuff I used to buy. Quality...

Excellent price for an excellent product.

Cons: None.

Other Thoughts: This is the wirelss N adapter, which is soon to be another "legacy" standard, like Wireless G, etc. I bought this for an older (but stilll good) computer that I am giving to a friend who only has Wireless N and doesn't plan to upgrade to Wireless AC. If it were for me for a newer machine I would spend a few extra $ and get the Wireless AC model TEW-805UB from Trendnet.

3 out of 5 eggsSpecs are wrong on Newegg

Pros: Relatively small, does what Trendnet says it will.
Small, lightweight single stream 11n adapter. Just read the specs elsewhere.

Cons: Newegg has this listed as a 300Mbps adapter. It is not.
Newegg has this listed as supporting WPA2-RADIUS. It does not.

They have the specs confused for the TEW-624UB, which does those things.

Other Thoughts: Cost me a couple days with a few machines I was trying to get on the network. Returning these adapters and getting something else.

Manufacturer Response:

Hello Anonymous,

We are sorry for the confusion and will have Newegg update their information regarding this adapter. You are correct, the adapter is an N150 adapter and does not support WPA2-RADIUS. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.

1 out of 5 eggsNo "N" Band Connection

Pros: Small Form Factor, New Egg Shipped on time.

Cons: Adapter has many problems. Will hook up to "G" Band easily. Albeit at only 36Mbps, but at least it will connect. Absolutely will not see, register or connect the "N" Band connection at all when the "G" connection is available. If I change the Router to straight "N" Band it will see the signal but refuses to connect. I have spent hours and hours trying to rectify this issue to no avail. I have changed channels, updated firmware, switched machines this adapter was plugged into, set it right beside the router on the table, cycled through security protocols and encryption schemes to no avail. This adapter will not hook up to "N" Band.

Other Thoughts: One last try! I plugged it into a laptop and went over to the neighbor's house and set it on the table next to his "N" Router. Nada! It just plain does not work folks.I am sending it back to Newegg for a refund. I am very disappointed, I have an older TRENDnet USB Wireless G adapter and it works fantastic and has for like 3 or 4 years now. I just do not get it. Avoid this one.

1 out of 5 eggsI bought 2, bad idea

Pros: It's small. Has a driver CD.

I cannot maintain a continuous conenction longer than 5 minutes with either one. I bought 2 of them for a (just in case) since they were on sale. Turns out I needed to use them finally and the performance was dismal. I used one with a 3 foot USB extension cable (tried different ones). I made a directional cone and got the signal to 80%. Even with signal up to 80% it will consistantly drop connection. The 2nd of the two devices worked slightly better, but found the device crashed out a Windows 7 machine.

Cons: Doesn't work well at all. Gets hot as blazes, which might be why it flakes out. Maybe they should build a temp monitor into the software. LOL.

Other Thoughts: I'll see if I can't return it.

1 out of 5 eggsWireless but barely

Pros: Small. Newegg shipped on time.

Cons: Only works at a distance of about 15 feet line of sight. Any further and any walls it is unable to keep a connection. If you need wireless, more than in the same room as your wireless hub, you should probably look elsewhere. I would not recommend for general use.

Other Thoughts: Supports Mac OSX 10.8, but instructions and software must be retrieved from support site. Knowledgebase is mostly marketing material.

Manufacturer Response:

Hi Anonymous,

Please accept our deepest apologies for this inconvenience due to short coverage. I would like to suggest to change your wireless channel to non-overlapping channels 1, 6 or 11 and orientation adjustment of your wireless antenna first if applicable. If it still doesn't help I can guide you every step of the way by emailing me personally at with "Newegg TEW-649UB" in the subject line and I will contact you immediately to assist you. I hope to hear from you soon and restore your faith in TRENDnet.

Warmest regards,

5 out of 5 eggsReally Great

Pros: Works like a champion for me. Wish I had bought several.
I get really good results by plugging it into a 12 inch USB extention cable and letting it hang lower than the computer. Stays cooler and receives better and more consistant signal.

Cons: None
